Recently found your videos and am super impressed! Question about getting started with carving as a hobby - I'm an engraver that works mostly with blasting glass, but wanted to get into stone working as well. My current setup includes sandblasting, I have rotary tools and some diamond rasps, and I own an angle grinder. Question: does it sound like I'm at the point where I just need to start, or, should I invest in some additional equipment first?
Sounds like you have enough tools to start. You'll probably need to buy some 1/8" diamond burrs for the rotary tool and then a diamond cutting wheel for the angle grinder and you should be good to go! Make sure you use a water feed or wear a respirator for the dust.
Lovely scrap-stone project. Once I turned a tapered drift on my wood lathe with an angle grinder and abrasive disk, and it was pretty scary waiting for the disk to disintegrate. I'd love to try stone if I could get my lathe to run at low RPMs, or maybe with a steady mount for the grinder.
