@@AstrixCloudhe's literally cut worn sections out of centuries old cathedrals and put in replacement pieces he made. Absolutely stunning to think cathedrals are now centuries old mosaics of thousands of such repairs and refurbishments. He's part of a huge thousand year old chain of workers. Just don't tell him all the technical skills he learned are Byzantine by way of France in origin hehe
Good to see this craftsmanship is still being kept alive in Europe. I did a 4 year apprenticeship as an Organ builder. Everything was done by hand. Unfortunatly our main customer (the Catholic church) decided to go with cheaper options abroad...cheaper being nothing is really handmade by a craftsman and all done by machines. My company went broke and so did my job! Keep up the good work Charlie...bet your old mans proud
Charlie, the heartfelt and creative marks that you inscribe on our ancient monuments will bear testimony to your talent for an eternity. Thank you! "A man who works with his hands is a labourer; a man who works with his hands and his brain is a craftsman; but a man who works with his hands and his brain and his heart is an artist."
I did my apprenticeship as a sheet metal worker in the 70's I'm still working past my retirement . All my skills have been replaced with computer plasma, laser and water cutters. It warms my heart to see someone so young with such skill in a trade that still uses the same tools and procedures that are thousands of years old. Respect to Charlie and his trade
I am a mason of some time but haven’t been on the tools for over 30 years - this takes me back I can tell you. Well done - it will live with you forever even if like me you come off the tools. Great skill and obviously a great teacher in the background somewhere. 👏👏👏👏👏
SIMPLY AMAZING. This young man is going to live a good life, creating timeless beauty in a manner that pays tribute to craftsmen from thousands of years prior.
Where is part two? 😢 Man, you definitely should upload more of this amazing craftsmanship, i can watch it for hours. I bet your channel will grow in no time, please keep up the great work!
Wonderful to see a craftsman at work. My late brother was a stone worker. He died several years ago and you made me think of him. Wishing you all the best in your career-you will certainly go far.
Kid, keep doing this. I enjoy stone Mason videos. Especially hand carved with hammer and chisel. Believe it or not, asmr, scientifically speaking, can relieve physical pain. It's easy searchable. I'm in recovery from surgery, and the medication helps with the pain, but watching stone Mason videos and even wood carving are helping significantly.
I've come to here from your RU-vid shorts. Please make more long videos if you can. It would be great if you can show different stages of work, even may be how obtaining the stock and doing rough cuts, installation of final product, etc
After doing this work for my entire career and having 10-12 hand elbow and shoulder surgeries it’s a pleasure watching another craftsman pound stone… and might I say damn good young craftsman
You, sir, are a true master! I plan to join the Speculative Masons when I'm old enough, but I don't think I'd ever have the patience to be an Operative Mason!
If/when you do, try to find a Lodge with at least one teacher/mentor whose knowledge of speculative Masonry equals Charlie's skill at operative masonry.
Just came across your channel. Great videos mate! I visited York minster a few year's ago. Great Cathedral and works department. Keep the videos coming buddy 👌👍
What a great job to have 😊 wish i could have my time over again, when I left school ( this might sound a little bit green 💚 ) but, I was of the impression that stonemasons only done grave stones . But in fact it's far more than that but didn't know at the time. Great work 👏.
Amazing work found your instagram and man I could get lost for hours, youre very talented . Fellow maker here yet I work in machining metal, granite, wood , etc with manual machines and cnc machines.
You should post full length videos with no fast forward just you and the stone even if it make a vid a couple hours I would watch it I would love to have your content just kind of going in the background while I’m at work it’s very relaxing just put some nice slow music in the background and show the hole proses raw it would awesome
Hey Charlie, love your work. Can you make a vid on your favorite tools, makers, sizes and where you picked them up. Those little adjustable bevels are so nice…
Enjoy the vids. Just a suggestion...you're doing a job that it all about persistence, patience, and taking your time. Tik tok vids may be ok some times...but I definitely prefer the long form vids.
Random question: Have you ever read the fantasy novel Faith of the Fallen by Terry Goodkind? There are several sections describing the main character carving a statue and watching this reminded me of those chapters. I'm wondering how faithfully the carving was represented in the book.
Very hard and tedious work, but wow bro, incredibly satisfying. It must be an amazing feeling to know that you had a hand in the renovation of The Cathedral. I have a question, did you graduate from any Academy of Fine Arts? I admire
