Speaking as a guitar player who only dabbles in bass occasionally, but Jesus that tone is just downright monstrous. It made me involuntarily pull the stink face. Awesome playing man, definitely nailed the Sleep vibe on the head.
I went through an existential bass player crisis a couple years ago. Was trying to decide if all the bends, slides, and various voicings I use for notes were #1 even heard by anyone, and #2 added to the song vibe or just created mud. Essentially, I started wondering if pure clean uncolored keyboardish bass notes would create a better sonic foundation for my band. Had an opportunity to experiment one day when our rhythm guitar didn't make it to rehearsal and I could hear may bass a lot more in the mix. About halfway into a song I usually put a LOT of note voicing into, I simplified to just open clean notes. Vibe of song completely changed. My boys were looking around with a "WTF just happened?" expression. Explained what I had done after the song and the response was "OHHHHHHHH, dude! What's weird is all of a sudden we sounded like we used to with our old bass payer." My rambling ass way of saying I REALLY appreciate the way you voice your notes. Good shit, lean into that.
you don’t miss your water til your wells run dry! these guys are lucky to have you man, it’s these kinds of details that bring so much personality to the tunes
Just a pure sonic wall of weedian goodness, unbelievably satisfying. The tone is immacualte, it just tickles something in my brain few other things can. Thx for the inspiration, love from Norway
This shit is absolutely amazing! Are you mainly just jamming on a minor pentatonic? I want to learn how to do this!! This is some of the coolest bass tone and riffs I’ve ever heard
hey man, there's a little lesson on my channel that i made a few years ago, should really make an update but happy to give online lessons! thanks for the kind words!
Dude great tone. That Laney sounds amazing. I know Firebird guitars have special pickups (mini-humbuckers). Do the basses as well? I also really dig that fuzz. I play guitar, bass, and drums and as well as playing in a couple bands, record music all the time. You should get yourself a home recording set up if you don’t have it. Even with programmed drums and just bass that shit would rule.
thanks so much! these t birds have whats called tb760 humbuckers, they're really great pickups. i do record all the time but don't end up posting those, maybe i should 🤔
Awesome. I listen to this all the timr. Were there any bands/bass guitarists who made you inspired to get a thunderbird? Or did you just love the tone?
the tone, the feeling, the way it sits against your body, its just a whole different thing to a jazz bass (which is what i was used to) and then i just moved the strap button to the horn and it was JUST Right. i don't have this one anymore sadly but saving up for another!
its not awful but its there! i moved the bottom strap button to the top of the horn (you can see it) as opposed to in the middle of the body and i use a big thick strap, its unnoticeable then!
