Stonethwaite is a beautiful and quiet hamlet in the Borrowdale Valley, it consists of a farm, traditional stone built cottages and an amazing campsite if you want somewhere to just relax this is the perfect place. It provides a gateway to the valleys of Greenup and Langstrath and is overlooked by the great rocky head of Eagle Crag.
The farm at Stonethwaite was once owned by the monks at Fountains Abbey in Yorkshire from 1195 as part of lands they owned in the Borrowdale valley.
Further up the road is Honister Pass where you will find the Honister Slate mine. Further on you will find the beautiful Buttermere. (Village and Lake/Mere)
