Huugo was stopped and searched by police in June 2020. He was handcuffed and threatened with a taser after which the police found nothing on him. The experience left him scared and worried about future interactions with the police.
His father, who is a youth counsellor, says that young people are feeling increasingly traumatised by these kinds of incidents with police and that it can play on their minds for a long time.

where's the start of the video where the kid is in the bushes and refusing to come out. If your not doing anything wrong and are stopped DON'T BE A DICKHEAD be polite and respectful and that's what you will get back. In my youth i was stopped and search on two occasions and that was before camera phones and body camera when if you was cheeky you would get a clump around the head.

Maybe in a small town or the commercial district in a big city. The criticism of stop and frisk is that it takes exactly that reasonable response off the table. Maybe not in the first week, but it gets there once everyone realizes the cops are just going to run up on them and go through their belongings. They get mad about it, so the cops get handsy and prickish with everyone. It seems to go down like that everywhere.

Why doesnt the BBC post these statistics: *_Despite making up only 13% of London's total population, black Londoners account for 45% of London's knife murder victims, 61% of knife murder perpetrators and 53% of knife crime perpetrators._* The father and son should be concerned about these statistics, yet here they are criticising the Police for being proactive at stopping crime. Why do they come out as being scared of the Police, when it is the people in there own community who pose the greatest threat to there lives?

When I was a teen I was pull over by the police on a regular basis; I always remained polite, courteous and did exactly as I was instructed without resist, each time without acceptation within a couple of minutes I was on my way with no dramas.

Police should be there to scare people. Their job is to keep law and order. The more intimidating they are, the better. As we have seen crime skyrocket in London, do we want soft police or strict police? I would rather live in a safe low crime area, not a crime ridden one.

There is no evidence to support the claim that stop and search provides police with the additional assistance in detecting crime or stopping the use of weapons. There is however extensive research and statistical data to support claims that police victimise people of colour far more than any other group. Research also highlights that the percentage of successful stop and searches leading to taking offenders and weapons off the streets is very small compared to the amount of searches carried out and authorised by senior officers.

There may be a reason some ethnic groups are stopped more than others, and I find it concerning that these figures aren't widely given when giving statistics on stop and search by ethnicity. *_'Despite making up only 13% of London's total population, black Londoners account for 45% of London's knife murder victims, 61% of knife murder perpetrators and 53% of knife crime perpetrators.'_* Stop and search protects the very communities that complain about it's use. Statisticly 52.6 people out of a thousand black people were stopped and searched in 2020. That statistic means that a black person is statistically going to be stopped and searched once every 19 years. Isn't that worth a person's life, if just one weapon is removed? Personally I would happily be stopped and searched every day if it removed knifes from the streets where I lived.

@@TheMirrorGuy hi mate. Sadly it's not that simple. What about the other races that are hardly stopped? Also a large percentage of those stopped are not carrying knives. It is only a racist tactic. There are many more effective strategies to combat crime.

I used to think that until i lived in a neighborhood where it was actually being done (ny). I watched the whole neighborhood turn on the nypd over the course of about a year. By the time i left it took many officers to conduct even a justified arrest, i saw numerous real punches thrown (not some obstruction scuffle) fights break out between people and police, and the police themselves got darker and more violent bc of all the hate sent their way. This obviously only ended up in country/continent wide rioting for us and a full pull back of all of those practices under the of real mob violence, but hey, maybe you guys will have a better go of it.
