I have a problem with the disproportionate amount of young black me going round stabbing and selling drugs

We always need to run stop and search as the streets have become lawless. There needs to be a deterrent to carrying a shank and that deterrent is fear of being caught with it. But sentences need to be higher as I saw loads of people in Prison earlier this year for knives and most were out before me! Most only had 6months (serve 3 in prison) for carrying a Rambo knife on the street

I get why some black people are offended but what is actually the problem? If you have nothing on you, then you shouldn't feel scared or offended because you have NOTHING on you!

Bitter because the risk of going to prison is higher. The answer ? Don't carry knives or drugs.

Lot of knife crime in the 50s, it then became if found with a knife, straight in Bordstal no messing, knife crime stopped very quickly...

Let's have a look at the ethnicity percentages for drug and knife crime in London before we worry about searching the wrong colour people.

Back in the 1970s i was working in the west end of London at the time of the IRA bombings. I was a white Londoner in my 20s with long curly hair, i was stopped several times and searched by the police Which was never nice but neccessary. The police officers were plain clothes officer and were, shall we say very firm when they stopped me. Once they searched me and established who i was and where i was going they would appologise and we went our separate ways. This was profiling as as being white with curly hair also with a limp probably fitted their idea of a possible bomber at the time. Its obvious what my point is. I can sympathise with those people that have to go through this but if the police were just to stand by and do nothing they would be criticised fir that as well.

I’ve never been stopped or searched in my life. I wear hoodies most of the time and drive a black tinted car, but when police talk to me I’m polite and they can tell I’m educated. Never once did the conversation go past 1 minute before they were done. Just let these dickheads have their power trip and be on your way.

I worked in London and Bristol for over 32 years, never been stopped by police not even once.

People who commit the most crimes should be stopped and searched irrespective of their ethnicity

The 1st thing the British judicial system HAS to do is decriminalize OR legalize cannabis. This would solve so much trouble on the streets,in courts,jails and free up police to do other things. It would take cannabis control out of gangs hands and create £Millions in UK taxes. The majority of Europe already has AND most of the US. Britain is so far behind the rest of the world in many ways.

2013 this was filmed amazing the following years where the police was encouraged not to do stop and search crime levels went up and more people started to carry knifes . We then saw a push late 2018/2019 for stop and search and crime started to fall in certain areas that had high % of stop and search. So what does that tell you! it's a practice that works. I would personally point to the years where people was against stop and search as to the reason why we have this high level of knife carrying. Yes mistakes have been made by the police in the past but communities need to take action/responsibility instead of always looking for an excuse.

I am a 54 year old white man and I have had a several encounters with the police and most of the time the police have talked down to me, but if you do use stop and search, do it with people skills. Don’t talk down to people and treat people on the level and then you might get some respect.

I am a white boy and i've been stopped before in London. I was cycling my bike in and around the same area for quite a while and officers who were on static patrol caught on to me and had a word with me to see what I was up to. It didn't really faze me that much because I didn't have anything to hide and I just put it all down to experience. If you haven't got anything to hide I don't see what the problem is. The only people who have got the problem are the ones doing something wrong.

Police should never lay a hand on anybody unless intelligence directly implicates the individual without question, then and only then can we see a just system that will stand up to the high scrutiny levels that will expose any wrong doing by the authorities charged with controlling and detecting crime, i for one would never support random searches as this would be the tip of the iceberg in people losing their long held civil rights.

What is needed is much more leeway for police to take whatever action they feel necessary. Stop and search based on a copper's gut instinct is an excellent and effective approach - not just in detection and prevention of drug and knife related offences but also as a counter to anti-social, threatening behaviour that doesn't quite cross the line into formal criminality, but should be checked. Altogether, police should adopt a zero toleration approach and come down like a ton of bricks on offenders and unruly, unco-operative suspects.

I think all together we need to start to change the way we look at those kind of events. Is not about white or black or Asian or etc ... Is about as a citizen we must feel safe in our community.

In my area, I was faced with 4 black teens, one with a large kitchen knife. I was terrified , I'm 69 and female. Police caught all 4 luckily, and I never go out on my own now!!. Last week, Police arrested about 10 Romanians and I haven't seen men since!!. It seems to me that crime is rampant, and our country is teeming with 16-45 Yr old men with nothing to do so crime is their life !!

i live in west London. I never been stop in my life by police .. bcoz i work I pay tax and not making troubles not stabbing or stealing and police will never stop for no reason in London...

I understand why, but can't agree with the idea. Too much freedom removed - it crosses the line in my opinion. A question for discussion - how many freedoms can be removed (think of powers to seize phones, search online accounts, forced identity, etc.) before countries like the US, England and Australia can no longer call themselves Free Countries?

Ive been stopped and searched and have no problems with it. The coppers were polite and there were no issues. Perhaps the real problems and complaints come from those that do things to hide!!

Stop playing victim all the time just because your black, I'm also coloured and when I was 13 years old my cousin only 15 was beaten and stabbed by 12 black males who never got caught, his not from london and they only stabbed him because of a cigarette, cowards were at least ages 17-19 years.

I understand the feelings that "it's because I'm black" from a differing angle, i had a sports car, i look young, i got stopped every week for a month, but i responded politely and I told them how regularly i was getting stopped. I don't break the law, getting stopped even on some shifty premise does not make me feel worried, it makes me feel that at least they are trying to do something about people causing problems. If that is gangs in your area, unruly drivers or hooligans or any variety, regardless of colour or race then you should be thankful, if you aren't doing anything wrong and you don't respond with hostility then they will not take further action. Growing up in this era of police contempt i realise more than ever the consequences of things as little as poor manners. please. If you're not doing anything wrong, don't make their lives harder.

Stop & Search takes 5 mins. How does that impact your life so much? Stop dressings like people who deal drugs or involved in crime. Then you will not be suspected of crime- simple. Why behave suspiciously in the presence of police? Who walks around with clench fists? Or hands in pockets? If you're innocent why dnt you want to assist the police? Your search is helping save a life. The ones that ressist most likely dodgy.

I dont know about UK rules about stop andsearch, but in Soviet Union or former soviet countries, police must have at least two witness when searching going on for avoiding that cop for example put in your pocket drugs or weapon .And here must be some argument why they stoped you,you must look like someone who is searched(its documented,from crime investigation). You cant be stoped randomley,because someone find you 'suspicios".
