I love glycolic acid for face but it's a pass for underarms ❌ The use of glycolic acid on underarms is generally not recommended for individuals with darker skin tones due to the potential risk of hyperpigmentation or darkening of the skin. Darker skin tones tend to be more prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, which is the darkening of the skin that occurs after inflammation or irritation. Glycolic acid is an exfoliating agent that can help improve skin texture and tone, but it can also cause irritation and increased sensitivity, especially in sensitive areas like the underarms. When applied to darker skin tones, the risk of triggering hyperpigmentation is higher, as the melanocytes (pigment-producing cells) in darker skin are more reactive. It is important for individuals with darker skin tones to be cautious when using strong exfoliants like glycolic acid in sensitive areas such as the underarms. It’s advisable to consult with a dermatologist or skincare professional who can provide personalized recommendations based on your specific skin type and concerns.
Yes, like you pointed it out, these parts are darker due to thicker skin meant to protect areas that are prone to friction. High time we accept our bodies wholly.
Maybe its not for everyone, but its a lie that it doesn't work. I'm a black girl and it definitely worked for me. There are rules to using the glycolic acid. Use it 3 times a week AT MOST. Don't do it daily, space out the days you use it. Apply a few drops of the glycolic acid to a cotton pad or even just your fingers and apply it to the darkened area. A little goes a long way. Wait 5 minutes and moisturize the area (don't use Vaseline or aquaphor). And you NEED to do it at night, DO NOT apply it during daytime because the sun will burn your skin. Do it after sunset please. A little darkness in those areas is totally normal, but having those areas be 4x darker is usually caused by something and some people just want to fix it to feel more confident.
This product did wonders to my tanned hands, elbows, knees and underarms.I just use it 3times per week.I’m a yellowish not much faired skinned indian. For skin and hair care please see what works for you as everyone’s body is different.
Yeah so true! For most girls having a darker skin tone in their underarms is a matter of low self-esteem because of the sick beauty standards that are being promoted by our society.
Your knuckles: 🟤⚫ Her knuckles:🟠🟡⚪ Your elbows: 🟤🟤⚫ Her elbows: 🟡🟠🌸 ... Girl you normalizing it because you got that but the one who suffers from uneven skintone knows the pain! Fr the problem isn't dark the problem is why the skintone isn't even when many people do carry a smooth elbow and good knuckles, even when I was a child I agree that I didn't had the smooth underarms but atleast it wasn't looking gross for sure, the skin tone was even and now I don't know why? But My armpits now: 🌗🌓🌗🌓 fr I'm not even kidding at this point, my sister told me not to shave it leads darkness but nowadays I'm seeing people saying that don't use wax use laser treatment or shave 👽 wth!! Edit: a bit of darkness is normal which is a shade ahead to your skin though so don't take efforts to remove that it's normal and not even noticeable so chill But I don't have that I got 3x darker tone in few parts of underarms (compare to my actual tone)
This is much needed content for us Indians specially girls these days... they're crazy'about getting every part of their body not only fair but also free from hair.
what a great lesson. A dermatologist once told me to use that glycolic acid...but I refused!!! It's a good thing I didn't buy it, because I also have caramel colored skin. Thanks for telling us !!!!
I wish i knew this 1 week back, i applied glycolic acid only 3 times & i can see that my underarms are more dark now. I have kojic acid soap, I'll use that. Thanks for saving.
@@Debanjande558why do people like you assume everything/everyone is a subject of your sick joke's/taunt's? she didn't knew much about it and now she does! why can't you people let humans be human's? and stop expecting them to be flawless as if you are one big flawless person walking on earth?
People keep applying things outside their body but many fail to understand that food habits, lifestyle, mental and internal health is equally important for glowing and healthy skin.
I am so insecure about my neck region it is darker and makes everyone think that i do not clean it even though i bathe daily and take care of my neck ☹️☹️
Girl... Same !! Literally same!! I've had dark neck since childhood... I tried applying brightening roll on front chemist at play, vitamin c serum (works wonderfully on my face and hands but not neck), snail mucin (this was such a waste of money for me), chemical peel...nothing ever works! 🥺💔
@@nidhikarn6360hey ,snail mucin is mostly works for hydration that too only when you applied on a damp skin , try using kojic acid serum or soap during night time only followed by moisturizer for hyperpigmentation...
i used this for 4 months with no issues almost DAILY once before sleeping, and it actually brightened my underarms i was so happy, then suddenly it caused me baddd itchiness for weeks on end and i assumed it was some food related but i decided to stop using it and around 2 weeks later my itchiness stopped, but i genuinely need another solution to dark underarms
Moisturize the area you applied it to after using it. And please don't use it almost daily, especially if you have sensitive skin. Space out the days you use it, maybe 3x a week.
U make so much sense, lady! More than these dermatologist online! 🥴 wheatish skin tone tends to get tanned easily ! & Frequent use of glycolic acid even worsen it becoz of irritation to the skin ! Im currently using a salicylic acid glycolic acid facewash, but i dont see any improvement in my tanned skin ( trust me this is very disappointing 😢) even a few hours of indirect exposure to sunlight/daylight gets me tanned like anything! If anybody here has some suggestion for the hopeless me, kindly do! Its most welcome… 🫶🏻
Shaving can cause dark underarms. The hairs grow back blunt which causes lots of irritation if you have thick hair. It's better to epilate and use an alcohol free antiperspirant. My underarms look so good since I switched.
Darker skinned people can react negatively to kojic and positively to glycolic as well. You can inform the public without absolutes like “never use…” and still get the message across effectively. The kojic alternative is nice but tips on how to introduce something that may be harsh to you as well would be better for next time.
@VnoroZz Use it 3 times a week at most. Apply a few drops of the glycolic acid to a cotton pad or even just your fingers and apply it to the darkened area. A little goes a long way. Some one who is saying honestly because it's make burning sensation and make it more worsted because this glycolic acid we should use alternate days n wait still it observed and in those areas we just apply n leave it of due to heat n sweat 💦 it will make it worst you are right babe ❤❤❤❤I always appreciate your honesty 💗
True ,i applied a dot of tretinoin on underarms and boom my skin thinned the next day. It's like the upper layer of skin has been gone. It was very irritated for a week
It darkened my armpits even more.. I reduced it with dove scrubs used it twice a week and minimalist aha bha peel once a week. Aloe gel from Innis free and chemist at play roll on.
It got rid of my odor for 100% , I used alcohol to clean the area for my armpit and around it first then took a regular shower then applied glycolic acid on my armpit and around it, then applied moisturizer cream around the area but not directly on my armpit. I don't use deodorant now and the area smell fresh not moisty.
If using of sunscreen and glycolic acid doesn't solve your darker pigmentation then its hormonal problem... I have darker areas when I was above 90kgs and my hormones were severely disrupted. Now I am 60 and all of my darker areas just gone without using anything!!
@shrads I have a dark neck. After pregnancy my neck had become dark. Thn what yo use if not gylcolic acid cream. There are no more options also. Plz suggest
