You can turn off the passive key entry in the car settings and it won't look for the key proximity any more and that vector will be eliminated. Then to open the car you will need to press the unlock button on the fob rather than just the presence open. This will eliminate the fob sniffers and rely solely on the unlock command (which is encrypted).
^this. You need an OBD2 lock and a kill switch. This video is incomplete advice, I’m sorry to say. My coworker’s camaro was stolen in November. Insurance paid him and he got another. OBD2, kill switch, brake lock, and thieves have already failed to steal it. Be careful out there Camaro owners.
@@whereisthedollar the idea is less about the one perfect solution and more about layering up the protections to increase the likelihood that a thief would just move on
Agreed. Car makers are now tech companies. They need to manufacture as such. JLR just did a security link for present and out of warranty cars to prevent this. GM should do the same. The C8's are locked down, so this can be done. Why do I need to spend another 5G's due to security flaws. @@MichaelSPalmer
Had my 2023 Camaro SS 1LE stolen last night and to my knowledge the key was not in range. Thieves stole my car in less than 2 minutes. I have the whole theft on video. They broke the window, appeared to plug into OBD2 port, alarm went off for 10 seconds, guy crawled through the window opening, the car then started and they left. I had an AirTag and tracked it to the port of Baltimore. Doesn't appear anybody can do anything now except wait to see if it turns up or if US Customs catches it. Most stolen cars are being shipped overseas.
@The_Drive_Inside Yes!, but I GUESS I'll take a '23 for LESS than a '22!! 🤣🤣👍🙌🤑. Not saying I wasn't pissed when it happened because I was🤬🤬BUT at least it worked out in the end.🙏👍
I work at construction sites, and my Camaro will receive the signal from the key from rooftops of 8-12story buildings. I think one of the best anti theft devices is the brake pedal locks. It won't allow the car to start since the brake pedal cannot be pushed down.
@The_Drive_Inside yeah, it's crazy! Idk if the key being that far away would affect their ability to start the car with a device, but the lock/unlock signals go pretty far.
IGLA is the one to use. I had my 23 ZL1 in Dallas when it was only 3 months old. IGLA makes the car 100% theft proof. The only way a car with IGLA can be stolen is with a tow truck. You can literally had a thief the keys to your car and won’t be able to start it. Only you will know how to start your car. Compustar is waste of money comparatively as the car can still be stolen.
@@dustinteasdale6091I agree igla is the way to go I have that install on my 2012 ss transformer edition and my 2021 zl1 but I have both igla and compustar
Going to get a Ravelco set up on mine. From what I've been reading on Nextdoor GM muscle and Mopars are getting snatched constantly. Mine is garaged but i dont want that in the back of my head when I do choose to drive it.
What you are hinting to in your video is a relay attack. Or just simply the key not being secured. And even then encryption doesnt matter in a relay attack if you just need data to reach from point a to point and in this case the car is decrypting it. PKE is definitely 5 feet or less and driver/passenger seat for push to start. I just had my key on the trunk lid. Didnt let me unlock the door. Battery was replaced in the key two weeks ago. The range of the remote its self can be pretty far. Theives are almost giving up on relay attacks because they can program a key without a registered key being near or the car even being in ignition on. Unfortunately I think you need to research this a bit more on that place us nerds chat. Still love your content. I just don't want camaro owners to have false security just keeping the key with them.
2020 1le manual was stolen in a very nice area near me. Not like uber white rich target area but definitely a pretty subtle and moderate area with well devloped housing, median incomes and low crime rates. So the manual thing is out and saying a nice area is out too.
@The_Drive_Inside yeh its pretty crazy. I have one installed on mine.. it uses a unique pin with your own oem buttons anywhere in your car. I use a combination on the steering wheel. Even then if u have the code u have to have right process otherwise won't start lol
