Stumbled across the BS41s for $66.00 at Amazon Warehouse and just got them in today. Packaging was official ELAC boxing and then double boxed inside of a ginormous Amazon box. The speakers themselves are in excellent shape with all nicely creased wrapping, styrofoam, cardboard between the grill and the speaker, documentation and silica packets. So whomever returned these took care repacking them. It looked as if they had never been removed from the box at all. The BS41s are going to be in a near-field / desktop setup driven by an Emotive BasX A-100 which doubles as my headphone amp. Won't be able to get everything setup until early next week, but for $66.00 I'm feeling like I made a good choice. Appreciate you Randy for putting these "baby ELACs" on my radar!

I picked up a pair of the original B6s from Elac a couple weeks ago (refurbished) for just over $200 for the pair, along with a Fosi Audio BT20a ($55ish). I'm debating between a Topping D10s and a Schiit Modi for a DAC, but even without a very nice DAC, I'm already enjoying the crazy sound that this original style of Elacs produced. For the price, the fact that I smile whenever I turn on my music is truly amazing. It's my first speaker setup, and I thought I would enjoy it, but I had no idea how different this experience would be from anything I'd heard before. If they're available for a good price, I would guess that anything like that initial debut series would be a fantastic first speaker.

The metal tweeter shroud can be (carefully) removed improving the looks and high frequency performance. I think this is the best entry-level, inexpensive speakers on the market right now. This and a competent powered subwoofer and its off to the races.

I first had them in my kitchen place on fridge and under cabinet where I had room. Did not work. Moved them to my desktop with elac 1010 subwoofer. Sound great now. Just shows how placement is important. I put back my advent minis and they do work well in the kitchen. Thanks for the fun shows!

These have perfect for my work situation (a large science lab/classroom). No, I'm not doing any critical listening there, but they do sound very good. The emphasized low end fills the room with more bass than you'd expect.

Love the videos, Randy. Your style is so easy to watch. Here's a suggestion to ignore, or maybe not. Try reviewing something that is really, really expensive, just for kicks. As a one-off review - to change it up a bit. McIntosh recently released their MA9500 integrated amp. Another product that might be fun, would be the KEF Reference 5 Meta or perhaps the Legacy Focus SE speakers. It would be excellent contrast to get your thoughts on a piece of ultra high-end gear - after spending so much time looking at value-priced products. This is just a suggestion. I'll keep watching in any case. Carry on. And thanks for all these videos.

@@ahuesphoto the Emotiva is very clear if you crave detail. Non fatiguing! They may seem a bit bright at first but it is nowhere fatiguing. Very satisfying. I've had the Sony's as well and the highs were a tad fatiguing on certain music. I am itching to upgrade to the B2+ . I'd probably keep the B1s for another room.

They have a 4" Debut 2.0, and I have them. They are my old sides before I went all towers in the 7.1.4. They are the ELAC Debut 2.0 OW4.2 On-Walls, and they are fantastic! I used them on my desk for a while, and they are probably the best near-field speaker I have ever heard. They do need a sub tho. Unlike these, they do not have a deep enclosure so I would say they roll off at 60-80Hz, but from 80 and up, man, they are impressive. $329.98 a set retail.

"Just buy them". Ok Randy, I've been wanting an upgrade so I did. Thank you for the recommendation! Got them in today and put them on my PC desk. So far I've been listening to a variety of rock, pop, metal, and playing Cyberpunk 2077. Very nice upgrade from my Dayton B652-Air's, which needed quite a bit of tone control to improve bass and tweak treble. I may dial the bass back a little, but it's nice to have some again.

I can say that my Pioneer SX 780 is a great match with my KEF Q350`s with a REL T5X. On the contrary, the Pioneer with the KEF Q150`s I find more bright and fatiguing.

How do I give this more likes?? As fun as all the new digital/pocket sized amps and DAC stuff is, I enjoying my old '70s receiver too much to give it up for arguably better newer tech (even if for no other reason than the aesthetic and feel the controls have). So it'd definitely be interesting to hear sometimes how the stuff you review plays with older tech. Currently sporting an Onkyo TX-3000 receiver and Technics SL-23 turntable.

To be fair, this speaker was only at this price for one very short period of time. According to JOENTELL, this price was an error on amazons part, and given the performance of the speaker I doubt it will ever be at this price again.

The thing is, they have never even been on sale outside of this specific sale period everyone is talking about. At best they will likely end up have a 100-110 sale price in the future. Thinking about buying some Elac speakers after seeing so many positive reviews of different Elacs on your channel. At this price, these seem like a good entry point to try out the Elac sound but they aren't yet available on Amazon in Europe, at least on Amazon Spain or Amazon UK. I think this is a prime candidate for a brace - adding a rib on the inside of the front baffle between the drivers - and I think this would clean up their sound, in all likelihood. I think it has air core coils on both the tweeter and the woofer. And a low/non-inductive resistor the same value as the stock, on the tweeter would improve the treble clarity. And it could be a $5 upgrade for the pair.

@@absufan Actually, that is the stock response - the improvement comes from using an air core on the woofer, and upgrading the tweeter cap, and correcting a manufacturing faux pas. The bracing really improves things, as well.

@@absufan It is a good stock response, but there are big improvements in bass clarity, and soundstage - and as I mentioned, there is an issue with the way the crossover is built, that causes the woofer coil to interact with the tweeter coil. One person who has the modded BS-41 thinks they are better than his Unifi 2.0's.

Big elac fan overall. My b5.2 s seem to get better every day, with better positioning and better quality scource material and all that. Also something worth trying is to remove the metal tweeter grill. I did it out of curiosity because i heard people were doing it and i wanted to see why...damn, they came alive without the grills, and since those BS41 use them aswell... maybe try remove them.

There seems to be an optimal volume for a balanced sound depending on program material, but is usually at moderately loud levels, so removing the grills or dropping resistor value may not completely suffice. I’m thinking they are “good enough” as is, and a treble control adjustment to satisfy circumstance would be your best bet. Also, I really like the sound presentation, so removing the tweeter grills will change dispersion. Funny thing about these is that I set them up, but didn’t like them at first. I thought they sounded strange, too veiled and strange higher than the bass frequencies, so I let them play for several days snd stayed away. They ended up sounding likable, and I know it wasn’t just me getting “used to” the sound. They now have an enjoyable presentation of an alternate sound signature than my other stereo pairs. I always thought there may be some minor validity to speaker break-in, but not to such a major degree. Strange indeed, but for the price, an audioholic’s preferred low cost tequila for sure..🤣

I had the elac debut reference. After much hype I tried them. The weakness was the tweeter. There was just not enough energy there to complete the sound. It needed to have about +6db more energy.

I couldn’t find a crossover schematic, but I did get a quick look at the crossover in a video. I’m thinking 12 dB per octave low pass for the 4” and a 12 dB per octave high pass for the tweeter. There’s a dropping resistor in the high pass and a low value poly cap added for the top end. I saw 39uF wet caps for the low pass, so they will dry out eventually, and switching to even metalized polyester caps will probably be hard to fit, as they will be gigantic in comparison. I think this crossover is reminiscent of the crossovers in some of the old Polk monitors. Hence, there’s probably a dip in the upper midrange from insufficient overlap of the filters optimally, and some extra bass presence around 100 Hz probably, hence a warmer presentation. 👨🏻

Thanks for the great review. How do these compare to the Neumi BS5? In Canada these are about 80 bucks more expensive than the Neumis (150 vs 230). Is the quality difference worth it?

I got what looks to be the last available pair of ELAC Debut B6 (1st version) from the company a couple weeks ago. 217 bucks shipped to the house from their California headquarters. These pups are gonna shack up with my ‘78 Marantz 2265 along with an SVS SB-1000. Yummy!

You probably don't even need the sub with those speakers and that receiver. I don't use one with my 2285b and B6's and I don't go wanting for bass.

Saw a new pair of these for $100 so decided to try them out. Works better away from walls into the room about 2 feet off the floor or on a table. Very pleasant stereo sound separated about 4 feet or more with slight toe-in listening 4 feet or more away. Depends on program material, but added treble, reduced bass, or both, generally does the trick for overall tone. Good to about 90 dBA at 1 meter to maintain reasonable tone, but I start noticing slight bass distortion above 80dBA on less balanced bass heavy material. Sensitivity is definitely about 84 dB, I was using a 100 W /Ch Class AB amp. I tried them near walls with the port partially blocked, but I felt they were more comfy when not choked and allowed to breathe. Agree 100% with Randy on sound perception. I think these make great near field stereo speakers, or even 2.0 stereo stereo mains for people who play music only moderately loud and don’t have tons of speaker space like maybe some apartment dwellers. These are small enough and light enough to accommodate various placement scenarios. 👨🏻. ☕️🥳

Do you have any video's on single speaker setups with a bluetooth connection? I know it's probably a weird question, however I work in a reasonably loud environment with others, and we use a portable speaker, but sometimes the owner takes it away. I wanna fix that disappearing problem by "donating" a speaker with bluetooth functionality, but without the portable battery because it really isn't needed, as power is available anyway, and I can improve sound quality with the extra money saved from it not being portable. If you don't have a video of said speaker, are there any recommendations you could give?

A lot of powered speakers have Bluetooth built in these days, or there are a million Bluetooth receivers you could add if not, but I've never seen them sold as singles.

You need to review android Neuteon Player. It has so many features and sound adjustment options it takes a long time to get to learn them all. I would like to get your take on pairing it with a phone with a good DAC. MINE IS Paired with a Note 9 but I also have a LG

I don't really get the pricing thing, so Elacs are now $170...appealing speaker at the lower price for sure, then they turn around and price the pair so high they aren't really attractive any longer at $170, or are they? I'm thinking that for around the same $$$ or just above? there are better choices correct? Anyone advise on some? Thanks, great channel and reviews.

Looking for recommendations... Due to interior design constraints set by my wife I need to find bookshelf speakers for front channels that are 11" tall or under. Are these the ones? A little more info about my situation: *Mostly for Home Theater purposes, but we're more into documentaries, dramas, etc than blockbusters. So soundtracks and dialog are more critical than sound effects. We don't listen at extreme volumes. *Currently wanting to upgrade the speakers in my 5.1 setup (right now we have a set of SC-A76 from Denon), long term hoping to add 4 height speakers for a 5.1.4 setup. *The room is about a 17x12 and we sit about 9 feet back with 8 ft behind us. Looks like my best options are these ELACs, the Moukey SC-3, Micca MB42X, Polk TSi100, Polk Monitor XT15, Polk ES10, or Dayton Audio MK402X. 🤔🤔🤔

I would recommend that you upgrade your center channel first, and maybe only your center channel and latter better front speakers. Get a sealed center channel like Emotiva's or Fluance (All Emotiva Centers are sealed but only one of Fluance 's Center is sealed / with No ports). This way you can position it wherever is more convenient for you and it will still sound good.

Nice video. But, are you not contradicting yourself? In your other videos, you raved over the Elac 5.2 and 6.2 (provided one listened at a distance). Here you rave over these speakers and almost dump on the others. Did I miss something? Or is the cost the driving factor?

They are pretty amazing at that price! I actually have mine parked wiht a sub using a MiniDSP. This helps with the somewhat boomy bass.

You need an amplifier in other to use Elac BS41 speakers (they are passive speakers). The amplifier should comply to your country 's requirements. These speakers should pair well with inexpensive Class D amplifiers like SMSL AO200 and SMSL DA9
