Dang Trigger. That gun is fast. I found that my biggest problem with orange peal was I was not putting my clear coat on with enough overlap or not wet enough. Somebody quoted that the flattest paint is right at the edge of a run. I followed that and it has helped me a lot. Practice makes perfect.

so much truth here - and also true for every paint application. People think that dipping your car will cover stuff up because it is so thick. Spoiler: All dip coats together are thick, but the individual coats you lay down are still thin and will follow every chip, dimple and whatever is on your old, bad paintjob. Saw a car with clear coat flaked off partially, all of the craters were still showing up after 10 layers of dip. Preparation is king. I was once told when restoring a part that 90% of the process is sanding it smooth - I'd even say that is on the low side. You cannot really filler up what you messed up in preparation, unless you use so much filler that a slam against a panel will send bricks flying ^^

Hey TM....there is a way to fix this if you mess up on your base. you can use Speedokote Automotive base coat 500 Color Blender SMR-3500 or Intercoat clear.....Just clear over your base with this then sand it a bit knock down the orange peel and then clear it. put down like 2 coats of this clear product and sand it smooth. Easiest wet. knock down some of the dirt or whatever you want and then shoot your clear. Comes out perfect. I use this under blend areas. Plus if I get some nasty stuff I shoot some of this over the area, sand it smooth and maybe dust a little more base over the bad stuff. Once everything is perfectly smooth. Then Like you say I shoot my clear. You need to spend the time if you want it right. Other things I might do is if I end up with peel or some stuff I dont like I will sand the clear and respray.

Only time you really have to spray light coats and be delicate with your coats is if your panel is not cleaned properly or your spaying environment isn't as ideal as we'd like. Then you have to put on the baby coats and make sure you don't get a reaction. But my panels are cleaned at least four times after being prepped so I can blast them wet. So, I've been painting 15 years and I do agree with some points made in this video. A skilled person can use a mid-grade gun and achieve the same outcome as a Devilbiss etc. as it's all about experience and the skills. Primer sealer I never had to spray an edge blender to let it lay flat. This part of painting depends on the product purchase and how it is reduced. If mixed and applied properly, then the base will lay flat right out of the gun. Also, the ambient of the boot and reducer/Hardner temp selected plays a big role in the outcome of the base and clear.
@thetriggerman954
@thetriggerman954 Месяц назад
@@DIYeverything513 I've never used an edge blender either. It's all things that come with experience and you have to be actively trying to get better with each job, some guys just go through their whole career as a painter just being ok with "average" work which is fine but those you are actually trying to be a top tier painter will always strive to be better with each job. Surely if someone can't yet get sealer down without excessive peel then they're not yet gonna be able to get clear coat down without the same. I always treat my sealer like clear coat. How that sealer looks is how the clear is gonna look. I'd be looking at gun pressure, gun distance from panel/speed, temperature/humidity and viscosity of product all being potential culprits of excessive orange peel. Also products can be different requiring different application methods. Over time you learn how to control your application method to achieve specific finishes

Great advice and sweet result. How do you only have 10k subs? +1 today. I bought a somewhat cheap Devilbiss gun thinking watching videos was enough to spray silver base and clear for my first attempt. I was so wrong. You have so much skill, you see things without realizing it and adjust. Novices definitely need a lot of practice to develop more seeing and fixing in process skill. My second gun was an Ani R160-Q mini spray gun that sprayed better than the cheaper Devilbiss, which is now a primer gun. I took classes and invested in Devilbiss DV1 base and clear guns for my project cars. The better guns help, but I still need better skills especially with clear. Riding that fine line of glossy without major runs v. dry and no runs is still a struggle for me. Skills can spray bad guns, but good guns can't fix a lack of skills.

@thetriggerman954
@thetriggerman954 Месяц назад
Probably the product if t sets fast then most likely it's coming out with more texture than you'd like. Play around with different sealers maybe you can even ad a splash of reducer. Sealer will definitely give you more peel than desired unless you can figure out a good combination to combat it, whether it's materials,gun, application. I think when they made the lph300 they labeled it as their "sealer gun" which kinda makes sense that split nozzle atomizing sealer laying it down flat, although most of us use it for clear 😅
