I started singing when my friend jokingly said, "Bad singing is normal, talented singers are the outliers." It's like drawing. Everyone can scribble anything. You can improve your drawing through study and practice. When someone's bad at drawing, we don't pick on them because it's normal not to draw like Michelangelo or Leonardo.

#1 is so true. It took 13+ years of singing and imitating others to realize my natural voice is so much easier to access than forcing a voice that isn't mine. This guy gets it.

It's hard for your speaking voice to 'sound' like your singing voice, when singing and speaking are such different activities. It's like saying one should run like they walk. But I understand that you should try to sing naturally and not imitate someone else's voice.

My 3 rules if you want to sing. 1. Don't get jealous if someone can sing better than you, sometimes you tend to be annoy by your friend or family when they are singing because they are better than you and you even distract them by doing bad singing. 2. Don't insult others if they can't sing well 3. Feel the song and appreciate all kind of music.

You get a ton of comments and it probably doesn't matter to you, but i just wanted to say thank you for the video. I was about to just give up completely. You made me realize i'm failing because i am fighting myself trying to sound like anything but myself. I'm going to try again, I just wanted to say thanks i guess.

Another mistake that I used to make at the beginning was only practicing singing over a song so I wasn't really listening to my voice.

First advice makes so much sense to me . Some songs I sing people go nuts and some they go meh ...and I think the same . I found out that songs that are closer to my speaking voice I’m more natural ...and it’s so much more easier on the ears. Now I just have to learn to convert all to my singing voice . :)

My girlfriend says all the time that no matter what I sing I always sing it like me. Been an unclean vocalist for almost 12 years now and been working on singing a lot more the last few years. I’m starting to realize I might have allergies that are changing my sound for the worse recently. Seemed like no matter how much I worked in my technique I would sound like I’m singing around a cold a lot. Some days though it wasn’t there at all. I noticed the same sound when I speak too. I’m hoping I figure this out because honestly I’m getting pretty damn good at singing finally :). I’ll have a few new covers coming on my channel soon with some clean parts.

I'm self-taught, and have been at it for decades. What changed my voice was being in a band, having the lowest voice, yet singing all the high harmonies without falsetto. I was the front, so the majority of vocal work was mine. This also opened things up. This experience matured my voice quickly, within a couple years. It, the band broke up... time to move on. I went solo acoustic for the next 20 years, and worked a bunch. The steady work also gave me not only power, but a presence. I could go anywhere, cold, BOOM... heads turned. What really helped was being instructed on harmonica tone by a legendary master. He gave me a 3 minute lesson that not only changed my harmonica tone around, it helped my singing, because he taught me about how your body, from your lips to diaphragm, affect your tone. I discovered that the same principles apply to both disciplines... remarkable. Music is endless... no matter how good you get, there's always room for improvement. Presently, I am challenged by my pronunciations of lyrics, learning how to exaggerate for clarity sake, and, I have a tendency to habitually accentuate my R's... very annoying. Good video. I'm becoming elderly... which is also providing challenges with my whole body... every day is an effort to hang on to what I've got... and still have growth where I want it. BTW, I will continue to listen to my favorite singers... I learned to play guitar and harmonica by copying masters... I don't try to sound like them, but learning their chops gave me tools to have my own voice... So, I will disagree with you there. Listening is a skill that comes from practice. It is easily half of what being a good musician is. Keep up the good work, you have shit to learn too... but you do know more than beginners... I liked that opening recording, with the falsetto crack... well done! I'll have to work on that.

Hey Adam, love these videos...you mentioned in another clip - chest voice and head voice...I find it easier to use head voice for high notes but as i go up scale from low to high there's a glitch like the note gets lost in the transition point between chest V. and Head V., is there an exercise to remedy this?
