Stop Letting These 4 Things Ruin Your Sewing Fun!

One, I am just beginning to get back to sewing and had cleaned my room, and had my sewing plans, but was still stuck. #3 hit me, I hate starting projects and not finishing...and I have unfinished projects taunting me. Also- I just changed two sizes in the past year- in my late thirties, you're embracing the reality of our bodies and sharing this whole process... brilliant and beautifully stated. Thank you. Think of unconventional materials you can sew into your work. I once made a basic pencil skirt and decided to cover it in satin ribbon. That game me the idea to make a matching handbag. From there I made many handbags with perfectly fitted specific pockets for everything I planned to carry on the night I made them for. A 2nd bag I used ribbon on, I made a sort of broken plaid design across the fabric first. Collected pink & black cigarette packs from a friend to cover the face of a boxy handbag, even used iron on adhesive to incorporate the pink foil from inside the packs, and wrapped the whole thing in clear vinyl. Later had a child and made her an Elsa costume, with a bodice covered in tiny plastic tiles i cut from blue water bottles with a long chiffon cape attached to the back. For me, when I feel "I just need to make something" but I don't have this thing in my head that "i have to make this", I start thinking of the purse or wallet I'm using and about what ways it could be more convenient for my current life. As i start building that box, often other ideas begin to come to mind. I think once the ideas start coming you can keep it flowing. When life becomes distracting, that flow of ideas tends to go silent if I stop making for too long. But the inspiration will always come back. And sometimes we just have to find a way to wake it up ourselves.
