My ADHD has crippled me year after year. I suffer from severe time blindness, I always feel that I fast forward and never realize how much time I have lost and not achieving my goals.
Good points. I'd like to add, most important things in goal setting is their relevancy. Most people set goals that aren't exactly their own. If you set to learn a language, you'd better know why. Most people just want to speak... French, let's say. But learning a language isn't such a simple endeavour, is it? So, we'll never get to do it just because of lack of motivation. To be motivated that far, the goal needs to be much greater than just a wish.
Izzy, you spoke about setting goals and the methods to be used, to attain our goals...i believe, first we have to set our goal sensibly, rationally, wisely. Then we have create a sensible action plan or strategy. Then we got to execute our action plan to attain our goals...since every human being are different in their own way, everybody can use their own ways to accomplish their goals.... accomplishing your important goals, will give you thrills, adrenaline rush and proud feeling... Having goals in life are very important...
Izzy, I feel so nice whenever I watch your vlogs. Congratulations for becoming Doctor as well. What sets you apart can sometimes feel like a burden and it's not. And a lot of the time, it's what makes you great. In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different. Always remember that you are absolutely unique. Just like everyone else.
It amazes me how many people think this way about setting goals. It must work somehow. However, I have never in my life achieved goals in this manner. For me, it is insane. Instead, I believe there is a plan for my life that is predestined. I look for the plan, and then, I set out to accomplish it. When it is not working, I realize I am off plan somehow and I revise my actions to get back on the plan. It works so well, and I accomplish so much that way. But Dr. Izzy is a very interesting person.
1. Be very specific + achievable with your goal. Break it down into steps. Brian Tracey has a book “Goals” that details this. 2. Track your progress over time with when you want to accomplish each step. 3. If you don’t reach your goals, e.g you fall short of it a little bit, don’t give up. Try and make the most of what you have done or what you can do. 4. Visualisation of yourself achieving your goal in the future can be a powerful tool to actually getting there. 5. Writing your goals down can help a lot. 6. Someone who keeps you in check with your goal (or an accountability buddy) gives you a support system that can keep you going. 7. Clear your cognitive and even physical space to avoid distraction away from your goal.
You gave an example at 4:22 that definitely opened my eyes. Abandoning the thing we wanted to do just because it turned out we didn't have as much time as we hoped for it. I realized that I do that often. I'll definitely try to be aware if I think like this again. Any time spent on what we want to improve on is helpful to reach our goal. Even if turns out to be bits here and there. Also, it definitely beats not working on it at all!
This is great! I am studying for the LSAT currently and was really struggling to be consistent. I realize my goal is too vague, and I think I can now be more consistent!
Thank you for motivating us Dr.Izzy, we sometimes forget to take little steps and just want immediate instant success in our endeavours. We push ourselves too much sometimes and get frustrated when we don',t get the results that we want.Thank you for reminding us that a journey begins with a single step.Have a nice day Dr.
I looove Izzy's videos, there are loaded with so much useful and direct info, that I even need to take notes. I'll be keeping these notes,, thanks Izzy.
You've motivated my tidying intention. Set a timetable and work on it is actually a tough task. Such a bussy person achivieng goals and dreams as you does inspire me to keep on track and enhanced the way I perform. Weekend for binging your channel
I am trying to get a driving license, have to fight myself everyday in order to study for it 🤡 So, thank you very much for your research and tips, they have helped me a lot 💕✨
Amazing!! You light up my life, inspiring me, where before I quit most of the things after starting up and procrastinate as much as possible. 🙏 Thanks beyond expression!
Love how you break down your ideas and the manner in which you present. Would also love to see you make a video on lessons you've learned from mentors/authors/books/etc and how you've incorporate that into your life, may it by practice or thought. Thank you for having the kindness to share. Wonderful!
What a surprice! That you come Back fast with a New video. I am glad to see you again. You are a beautiful doctor. Have fun the rest of the weekend ❤ 🌹 👍
This is just the video I needed to see right now. I really appreciated your sincerity/genuineness when sharing your struggles with learning Chinese next year. It reminded me that I am not alone in struggling to achieve my goals. I also really liked the clear format of the video and the practical and insightful points you made. Thank you and keep up the great work!
Only came across your channel today, it was great. I have been setting goals for the past 2 years and used very similar techniques especially writing it down. I wrote down the daily tasks/goals after I done it on the daily basis (yoga, reading, skateboarding, play paino, play drumkit, walking my dogs, each task one hour a day, one after another). Itt really worked! I was able to pretty achieved 80% for a whole year
i've been binge watching your videos the entire day. you're so helpful and you explain things brilliantly. i'm a fan!!! consider me your potential book buyer if you've got one out there😭😭
Hey, from Nagaland. It has been years since I set my goals and aspire to become something I wanted to be but sadly, it not happening at the moment. Over the past few months, I have been thinking seems like nothing gonna work for me. I'm honestly demotivated. Honestly, I'm honest and sincere about my goals but I do feel like it's not gonna happen any time soon. Thanks for your thoughtful message.
I recently graduated from one of the Russel group unis with 2.1. and Master's of Science degree, and in August I am starting my Ph.D. in South Korea. The default time of that Ph.D. is 5 years but my goal is to finish this within 4 years. I also hope to publish 2 research papers, one publication in 2 years. I hope I can achieve my goal of getting a Ph.D. degree!
I have many goals for 2024. I’m trying to lose weight, continue learning Japanese, play guitar, draw more, garden, continue making RU-vid videos and get into grad school. One of my friend doesn’t think I’ll do any of it.
I mentioned in one of my videos attachment through methodology which means the way you do it! Keeps you going ! Matters a lot ! All the points are so useful thank you Izzy
Thank you for these valuable tips. My Current Goals : Improve on my Guitar playing Skills, Move to the next Professional Level in Career and to Grow my RU-vid Channel as I make more positive impact in Life. Thank you once again Doc.
Thank you Dr Izzy. Really love the part of not failing with abandon and having an accountability buddy. Think these 2 are my actual problems 😢 Really do need an accountability buddy.
I certainly learned a lot from your advice, and one of the best is the tips for learning the Chinese language, which made a difference to me I am now studying in HSK3, thank you ❤ and hope you achieve all your goals...❤
🚀 Fantastic video on achieving goals! Izzy's practical strategies, like breaking goals into manageable steps and finding an accountability buddy, make it seem more achievable. I totally agree that setbacks are just part of the journey, and we should be kinder to ourselves. Visualizing our future selves is a game-changer! Thanks for these valuable tips, Izzy! 👏
I think I’ll have to reduce my goal list first! I want to improve my Chinese, practice more Tàijíquán, learn to play the Xiāo (Chinese vertical bamboo flute), finish a Chinese dragon painting and build a ship in a bottle… but that’s not all and I don’t have enough time to achieve the goals that I already mentioned! 😅
I'm doing everything you said and it helps a lot. Too bad that some things are slowing me down or even blocking me, because I have no control over them, so I have to adjust a lot. But I'm not giving up and I can fix the steps I have to take to reach my goals. Lately I've done a lot of work to really feel that it can take more time or more steps to achieve something and it's not a failure. I can do those things and get to my goals in another way or a bit later that expected without giving up in the middle.
Hello Izzie. I too have a goal to speak fluent mandarin but unlike you it isn’t going as smoothly as I had hoped. I am really struggling to know what to use and how to set goals for myself. I would really appreciate a video on how to make myself a schedule for learning mandarin and what kinds of tools I would need and what curriculum would be best suited to teach me without needing a teacher. Thank you for your inspiring videos!
Always love your videos, Izzy! I hope you are doing well and are being kind to yourself also. Thank you and all our NHS for the fantastic work they do. And thank you for yet another inspiring and well put together piece of content. Such a wonderful human!
Wow, this video really hit home for me! I've been struggling with achieving my goals lately, but this video gave me so much motivation and practical tips to turn things around. I love how the host emphasizes the importance of mindset and taking small steps towards our goals. I'll definitely join the online community to keep this positive energy going! Thank you for sharing such valuable content with us.
I already have a certificate or diploma on Auto performances suspension and brakes Tension almost graduate as a professional hardscape landscaper from tomson hardcore direct learning on line school but then you for the video it is really help full.
I got an Idea for you. Make videos answering medical/health related questions. Like "why should I get a flu shot?" or "how can I keep my hair from falling out?" or "what are the pros and cons to a certain prescription/medication?". Cover topics from things you are focusing on professionally. I just did a YT search on a new medication I'm taking and was shocked at the amount of content on it (Gabapentin). You would grow your audience with people searching for info on these medical/health topics you cover. Think on it my dear! 别客气
Change is about self exploration, painful sometimes. This is what people dont understand. In order to grow one needs to go through their emotions and experiences, not hide them away. Change is not an escape, it is an evolution through exploring and processing
Exactly. Any progress is better than no progress. That said, we should, of course, strive to maximize progress (which obviously involves sustainable efforts; for example, there would be no point trying to lift an absurdly heavy weight because whilst it could possibly be lifted, and lifting far more weight than ever before, it could cause rupturing of the muscles, which could render the person unable to lift even non-heavy weights in future and so there would, arguably, not really be any idyllic progress at all in that instance but instead, quite the opposite). I'm sure it is a reminder that young doctors, such as yourself Izzy, need to be gently reminded of; to not burn out. Also, do not let any corruption (which does sadly occur in the NHS at times) corrupt you! You once said, in essence, that "integrity" is a very valuable quality, and perhaps one that does not receive enough emphasis in society, and I definitely agree with you on that! Integrity is everything. Keep up the good work! Hopefully you find at least some enjoyment every day! Peace and love 💛🌤💫✌🏼
How fun is it to say accountability buddy? My goal is to meet the requirements from RU-vid and earn at least 1 paycheck even if it's only $5. Putting out consistent quality videos is incredibly difficult but I think this video has given me some helpful tips. So glad you're back Izzy!!
