Thank you for resolving an issue that has bedeviled me for four years with three different computers for which I've spent at least ten hours on the phone with my service provider's tech support who could only provide temporary fixes. Then I watched your video and voila!, the annoying prompt has finally (so far) stopped. Thank you.
Excellent! I've seen this come back for some people every time they change their password. So just be aware it may return at some point. At least now you have the quick instructions to fix it.

Thank you so much, this worked great. One important point that might be useful for others, as you said, restarting the computer might be a good a idea. Well in my case I did the process, removed all credentials, restarted outlook and I the problem was still there. I did the process again but at the end of it I restarted the computer and voilà, no more password popups! Once again, thanks!

I had an old work account that is non-existing anymore but keeps giving me the same issue. It turns out is the outlook issue, which I fixed following Control Panel-view by large icons-mail-mail setup outlook-show profiles-properties-email accounts, finally, find the old account and deleted it.
Thank you for the video. I was able to clear up and remove credentials form a couple of old clients (I have had multiple email addresses/access at multiple clients in the past and still do). However....there is one old client whose credentials are not in the list so I can not remove them, but whose pop-up is driving me mad every day. any other step I can take please.
If your organization has ADFS Extranet Lockout policy set, you may have to wait for the Extranet lockout to auto-unlock. That may be 15 or 20 minutes, or other duration according to your organization policy. Then try the password again after the unlock has occurred. (This is different than an Active Directory lockout policy)
We've done virtually everything to try and stop this for several users. It appears to be machine related. Have one user now with all relevant updates and still happens at least once an hour. Trying like hell not to call Microsoft, as we'll get nowhere with their first two levels of support. Nothing has stopped this issue, will probably have to issue a new PC to the user.
Not a solution, sorry. This solution (if you want to call it that) is all over the web. Doesn't work. We have gotten to the point where we 1) no longer allow any password changes in Office 365, 2) replace PC's outright when we see this issue, 3) tell people to stop using Outlook and use OWA, and 4) have opened 3 tickets in the past year where after 30 man-hours and 3 levels of support, Microsoft has abandoned the ticket and basically given up. Office sucks as a program, and always has.
I managed an office with 400 pc’s and this solution worked many times. It is caused when saved credentials interfere with an updated password. By clearing the credentials it allows you to save the new one so there is no conflict. This is not an issue with Office. It is a Windows credentials issue. If it’s not working for you then you have something else going on.
@@SeleTraining If it isn't working for most in this case, that "something else" is not apparent, as I can show you many links to the same solution that result in nothing. We've gone through TPM reset, Outlook profile, re-connect to Azure, etc and still the same result. The last Microsoft support ticket we did on this was 4 months ago with 3 agents over 7 business days. We finally gave up and issued a new PC after 12 or more man-hours of work. Rather than posting the same response to this issue, someone with the time should put up a vid on why this does not work.
There was a known bug that caused the same issue a couple years ago and the version of Outlook was the issue. That would be solved with a Outlook client update but you are probably past that one. It also can be affected by Multi Factor Authentication if you have that enabled on the admin console. One more suggestion. Have you run Outlook /safe to see if it loads in safe mode without the error. I’ve had to do that a few time to get past the credentials as well.
@@SeleTraining Yes, the Office updates were run on Win10 machine with v19041 (latest code update). In addition, the user currently seeing this does not use MFA (I do, but have not seen this with pw changes do I believe to the fact that the app password doesn't change for desktop apps after a pw change). Safe Mode was attempted today with no resolution. I check in with the current user every day to see how it's going. We are just about out of answers; new profiles and the like take time and are disruptive.

Sign out of Skype. Then choose the option to delete your sign in info. That will clear your login credentials. Then login again. Sometimes the saved credentials for Skype cause issues.
If you are getting a repeated prompt for your credentials it could be Windows or other app and not the office apps. You still may want to delete those credentials listed and try your login again. One of those credentials might be the problem. Make sure you are using the correct login and password.

Is this with Skype or just random while using other Apps? In Skype you can logout and then choose Delete sign-in info from the main skype screen. For other apps you just want to clear the credentials as shown in the video. If it still prompts then you must be using an incorrect login/password and it never really is getting connected.
@@SeleTraining I has run Task Manager and closed all Microsoft apps, Skype and others... I know that the credential are good because the only way I can check the emails are using the version online going to www.office.com. But in the computer is impossible. I don't know what happen. You did clear the credentials like the video explains, correct? Usually the problem is that a credential is stored with the wrong password so it prompts you repeatedly even though you are using the correct password but it does not match the stored one. You have to remove all the stored credentials to clear the issue. Closing the apps won't help. It's a good idea to reboot after clearing them as well.
It depends on how you are using Outlook. If you have Office 365 you can connect to office.com and choose forgot password to get it reset. If your Outlook email is tied to a Microsoft account you can follow this link to reset your password: account.live.com/resetpassword.aspx.
What if you keep getting credentials needed on an android cell phone. I get it from my yahoo e-mail account. I tried restarting phone, no help. Then I deleted the yahoo app and reloaded still no help. It gives this notification every 15 minutes. I even turned off notifications for yahoo, still no help.
You'll need to create a rule in Outlook. Go to Rules on the Home tab. Click on Manage Rules and Alerts. Choose New Rule and select a rule option for the types of contacts you want to send to and how you want to send them. There should be an option in the list for what you want. You can also choose the contacts you want to send to.
