My father-in-law has done it. My friends have done it... They grab a big ole dollop of saddle soap, rub it all over their leather jacket, and treat saddle soap like leather polish. The problem is that saddle soap is an astringent. It has lye and other acids that will actually hurt your leather over time if you don't completely remove the saddle soap after application. In this video, I'll show you how to properly apply saddle soap and how to condition and protect your leather jacket so it can stand up to the elements, work, and play.

Nice job.. I have 8 leather motorcycle jackets, six pairs of leather Streetbike boots, around 30 pairs of leather gloves, One pair of leather jeans.. One pair of one piece, beige motorcycle Road, racing leathers that fit me 30 pounds ago.. I sold off about six or eight of my jackets over the decades as I expanded , I like to think that they shrunk.. all my gear has a combined almost 800,000 miles on them, mostly commuting here in Pennsylvania, eight months, a year, light, rain, or shine. Even got caught in the snow several times at work, one day, 6 inches of snow… i used saddle soap only on my boots- i even have a video on my youtube channel showing how i clean my boots with saddle soap.. I never heard of using Vaseline on leather before. I never worried about where showing or patina on my boots or leather Jackets. I considered them earned battle scars. i’m gonna try your system.. I will share this video with my friends. The biggest surprise of your video was the fact that you claim you only get to ride about three or four months a year living in Utah .. is that due to? It’s starting to snow in September? And snowing until May? Or is it due to the cold?.. I’ve always wanted to go through Colorado and supposedly the most scenic state Utah especially on route 128. But I haven’t made it yet. Thanks for the video

Utah has harsher winters than many might realize. Love the battle scars in your leather. Conditioning extends the life of the leather but sometimes it looks better when you don’t repair every little something that happens

Bick 4 Leather Conditioner is great if you don't want to darken leather. amzn.to/3wOXIwV (Make sure you're applying to a clean jacket that's been wiped down with a damp rag before application and allowed to dry completely)

Wash it with a mild soap like dish soap 🧼 then allow it to completely dry overnight before following these steps

Saddle butter is great for water-proofing since it contains a combination of ingredients including beeswax and Brazilian carnauba wax tallow. If you know you'll be getting consistent rain exposure though I would recommend sealing the leather with a proofing spray every now and again.

Hi, did you apply the saddle soap on the whole jacket then wait for it to dry? Or did you do it in small sections then wipe it? Also how long did wait for the saddle soap to dry then wipe? If so, how long did you let the soap dry? Thank you! This is gonna be my first time cleaning my leather jacket

Love leather honey 🍯 just be aware that you have to use a LOT of it. Bick 4 is a great equivalent that doesn’t use so much to condition larger surface areas

I did the whole jacket, pay special attention to areas where it creases. I wipe off excess saddle soap with a fresh damp rag and allow to dry overnight, 24 hours ideally or until it is no longer damp to the touch

I thrifted 6 leather jackets and I want to clean them all. So it’s better to use the fiebing saddle soap right? Just to double check, Ill use the saddle soap for the whole jacket then wait for like 10-15mins then wipe it off with damp rag? For the bic 4, can I use a rag or its better to use hands? Sorry for many questions and thank you for your help!
