Welcome to the club. After 30 years, my wife and I are still sending money. Not so much now, that we are able to visit the phil now. The asking has almost stop, because we see first hand what their needs are really like. When you visit you VERIFY.

That's great! At least you're able to find a way to minimize the help 😊

I really like this lady!! 👍 She's really telling it point on!! 👉 She's probably getting a hell of a lot criticism from other Filipinos but its the truth...and something the filipino people don't speak about openly and one we don't hear enough about.

Unfortunately, I do get a lot of bashful comments from many Filipino, but my attitude is "I don't give a fork." 😅

This kind of story is very prevalent. Filipinos value family above anything else, but then there are many, like shown here, that have no problem swindling their own family members out of thousands of dollars for frivolous pursuits. Maybe you would have to be raised in poverty to understand that level of cold-heartedness as reaction for kindness shown to you.

I agree. That's what happened to me. I was raised in a way I did not understand and developed a lot of resentment and curiosity. Enough for me to find the answers

The 5 cycle The ever descending lifecycle of one way charity 1. Give once and you elicit appreciation 2. Give twice and you create anticipation 3. Give three times and you create expectation 4. Give four times and it becomes entitlement 5. Give five times and you establish dependency Poor people’s problems are their habits.

Great video Ate! I have the same problems in the province because the people lack gratitude. I had close family extort me for money on the land i bought for lola to build her house. All of a sudden siblings that had nothing to do woth the land started extorting me for money to vacate the land. According to them it was their land🤔. It had to go to police and barangay, i ended up paying them to leave , but not the extortionate price. They are not welcome in my bahay or any of our properties. Shame on them

That's insane! I'm sorry to hear that. It's very unfortunate to experience that our own family is capable of stabbing our back.

@@HelgaBabushka thanks for your reply, and I hope I find you well. That experience really shocked me to the core. However, there are some negative attitudes in my barangay in leyte. I am sure it's not all families , but when it happens close to home, it's really rattling for sure. Thanks for your videos

Robert D Lupton’s Oath for Compassionate Helpers- THE OATH FOR COMPASSIONATE HELPERS I will never do for others what they have the capacity to do for themselves. I will limit one-way giving to crises and seek always to find ways for legitimate exchange. I will seek ways to empower by hiring, lending, and investing and offer gifts as incentives to celebrate achievements. I will put the interests of those experiencing poverty above my own even when it means setting aside my own agenda or the agenda of my organization. I will listen carefully, even to not what is being said knowing that unspoken feelings may contain essential clues to healthy engagement. And, above all, to the best of my ability, I WILL DO NO HARM.

0:20 Wow, you sent 20,000 Pesos every month to your family in the Philipines for many years? Some months you sent more for "emergencies". 20,000 Philipine Peso is roughly $400 US, and it's more in Canadian dollars. Most Americans cannot afford $400 a month to support and subsidize the living of other people. $400 a month is not an insignificant amount of money. That's an $4,800 US per year. Some months you gave even more money. You were likely sending $6K+ per year back home to your family. Most people would have to work an extra job, or work extra hours and overtime to afford that. Sounds like you were working extra hard so that your family back home could live a life of luxury and not work. It would be nice if they used that money to better themselves, get education/certifications/tradeskills, come over to Canada or the US, but it doesn't sound like they did that. Instead, they just sat back and let the money roll in. Even worse, your brother in law gambled the money away. No bueno. This is all so sad.

Actually, there were 5 of us here in Canada who helped out my family backhome. 20+ emergency and lies. But that was 2013, so I'm happy now.
