As a retired OTR driver with over 25 yrs out there 18 wheeling. After retiring got some runs in my son's cargo van. I'd would highly recommend a high top Sprinter van that can hold 3 pallets. Doing expedited freight. Man you can make more money than an O/O in an 18 wheeler if you can run 15 hours straight through. TAKE A 5 HOUR NAP DO 10 .NO DOT. GET THE FOLD DOWN BUNK. IF YOU CAN. ITS A NO BRAINER. THATS WHAT I Would do. If you can get.a diesel even better
@@mrg251 If you can get your hands on a Mercedes Benz 2500 diesel to start, under a couple hundred thousand miles, buy an extended warranty..around a 2015..It should do 500K miles more with good maintenance. With maintenance records
WOW!!! This was such good info. I just decided the other day to start with Sprinter Vans because I felt it would be cheaper Ins. But you just shed some light on the real reason why a new upstart should consider this route. NO ELD, NO DOT, NO HOURS OF SERVICE, NO INSPECTION AND CHEAPER INS. This is the way to go for me. Just when I thought I had watch enough RU-vid Videos, I come across yours, lol. I'm glad I DID!!! Thanks for sharing.
Good jewels,I been driving about 2 1/2 years,I started with a cargo van for about a year ,I made about 65k first year going hard ,then bought a 2007 freightliner sprinter 144 inches, paid 12k cash, made that back in about a month in a half, average about 2k to 3k ,best week was 4700$,l did 87k last year ,im about to get a 158 or 170 inch sprinter next, holds 3 skids,i have my son driving my cargo van just in state only,he does about 1200 average a week in Ohio, its definitely $$ out here, you just have grind, yeah I do sleep 2 hrs maybe one day,but make it up during the week, 2 to 3k a week will motivate you trust me,I use Progressive 500k coverage on both vehicles 850$ a monthly, the cargo van got me started 240 a month insurance, and then leveled up to sprinter van, hope this helps someone
This was such valuable information. Thank you so much. Me and my girlfriends are entering the sprinter van transportation game. It seems to be a boys club but… We’re coming in, lol.
Hello!!!! Any tips on how to begin in the sprinter business? I’ve been delivering for Amazon for almost two years now. There’s no longevity in it.. so I’ve been researching how to get into this business since I have experience driving. I really need to know how to get a van and steps to take to begin. Is it possible to speak with you further and get some info and knowledge? Great luck to you! And Thanks in advance 🖤
It’s not that females can’t, it’s that they won’t. Some told me they are afraid to break a nail smh 🤦🏽♂️ maybe if the sprinter van had a cushy seat and good air conditioner…
Hello dear brother, my name is Abanur would you please give me call when you have time I have Spranter cargo van, I would like to ask you some information this is my phone number 2068591867 thanks indeed
Remember, the easier the job, the more competition you'll have. Right now the competition is stiff. Rates are going down like crazy. People are out here running at 50 cents a mile as an owner operator. Can you imagine?
Wow from what I’ve been hearing 70 cent per mile is now considered a good rate. That’s rough with the cost of gas/insurance, I normally wouldn’t run for less than 80 cents per mile when I was in a sprinter van.
Thank you for the helpful information! So many good tips and breakdowns here. Its nice to have someone throw NUMBERS out there so we can start to do some of the math!
This has got to be one of the most accurate descriptions of a sprinter operation I have heard. Good one! I have just acquired my MC in order to work directly with brokers. Let's see how this works out.
Hi Marty, It's a Motor Carrier authority. You get it from the department of transportation. It allows you to deal direct with the broker or customer, leaving out the middle man; dispatch company.
More CDL truckers are getting pissed at hearing this information. HOS is a major gripe, for good reason but people lobby for the trucking companies, and sure enough soon the idea of DOT and/or state police, public safety officers will be given authority to check spec labels and BOLs at will. So maybe what we talk about should be tempered down. We don't have to prove anything or tell what we don't show. The game is to be played, not sold out being told about.
Great video! I know 2 guys that have up on the box truck game because they wanted to be at home every night. I don't think they knew their breakeven point either. Can't start a business without knowing the business. The hustle gotta be in you.
I started driving 3 weeks ago. I have a Ford transit and left my job on a whim to start driving. I made $2,500 last week but could have made more because I don’t have my own authority yet. I agree $1500 a week means you are not grinding but I only drove 30 hours and made 2,500 and never left my state. $2,500 is now my minimum per week and am looking to start getting more loads for $5,000 a week.
Great knowledge, thank u much I'm really thinking about getting into this business, and guys like u are a great asset for this industry and a great outlet for information for guys like me who are just starting out.
My opinion only...as a OTR driver over 25 years. .I took two trips to China a few years back. What I noticed around the major cities Beijing, Shanghai, was the only tractor trailers on the roads and hiways were hauling containers. No TT in And around the cities. Everyone seemed to own their own trucks. Having Said that it seems to me the days of these huge 48 & 53 ft trailers in around the major cities in America are numbered. Plus more smaller trucks more jobs.Itz obvious to me that these requirements to get.a class A license will automatically eliminate many prospects. $6,000. $7,000.+ for those schools is ludicrous at best. I paid something like $500.00 @ a school. Back in the 80's
My carriers like to turn down good paying loads. They would rather sit a whole week waiting on a load to fall in their lap. Its so hard trying to get some of my sprinter carriers to do a little dead heading to stay loaded. I usually can get them around $1.10/ mile in their sprinter.
Hello.. I’m trying to get into the sprinter business. I know you’re a dispatcher, but do you have any useful information for someone who wants to work over the road? Or do you know of anyone hiring drivers for sprinter vans? Thank you so much in advance.
I been out here 8 months I got one room it’s was -2 I would’ve stay in the van but the heater went out now I’m learning dispatching so I can do it for my owners and get my own all Black folks working together
@@alwaystalkmoney So after expenses what does that number look like? Just trying to put things in perspective. Im in Atlanta as well & looking into a Sprinter or a 26' box with lift gate.
Thank you so much this video was very very informative thank you for the knowledge and wisdom this is powerful to someone who is new to the business🙏🏾❤️
You know how ppl are renting straight trucks to get loads from load board and Amazon etc.... can we rent a sprinter van for that too? Like is there a load board for those loads?
Thanks for the support, I actually have a step by step course including 15 expedited shipping companies & 5 brokers as well as a load board specifically for cargo vans. Email midwestboxtrucking@gmail.com for more info.
Man this video just sealed the deal for me. I’m currently going for my LLC this week and I want to start with the sprinter van. I have a couple questions regarding starting out and booking loads.
I’m glad I finally came across this video it was very informational. You mentioned about showing someone this business opportunity can you give me some information or insight on how to get started where to look what type of van to start out in?
I'm not even aware of a sprinter van segment, + I've been trucking for 40 years. I know Amazon bought a shitload of sprinter vans for their own use. You don't see load boards looking for a sprinter van, so where is this freight coming from + going to.
I see you say paying employees 30% to keep them happy which is good, but what about gas? I assume you can get company gas cards at a discount with shell, chevron etc..? As the employer, you would be paying for the gas, insurance, maintenance etc for each sprinter... while your profits are still +. Regarding the MBZ i think about maintenance and DEF (diesel exhaust fluid) can be an issue? You don't sugar coat things and i appreciate that. Respect 100%
Yes, I love the this video, I've been trying to decide what the hell to do first, but I didn't think you could make money, and sleeping in back, man please that's money saved for me, but my plan is getting a fleet started, so I can find work on load boards just as well right? Thank you \New subscriber here, I will be needing your help.
Old news!!!!! The real issue is the driver's abilities, driver's are scared of the dedication, this is coming from an active comited driver, I drive from Michigan to Laredo all the time, expedite for life!!!!! I have the receipts,
Michigan to Laredo pays $1200 to $1500 depending on what part of Michigan. Just there & back should be close to $3000. But how long does it take you to get a load back out of Laredo on average?
@@midwestboxtrucking we have a dedicated account with (GM) and alot of our driver's are like most driver's don't like the dedicated commitment, I'm single and free plus a prior military covoy security element, so not an issue!expedite for life
Question, As of February of 2022 pertaining to the ELDT will you then be required to have a CDL to operate a cargo van or a sprinter van? Also for somebody who is on a shoestring budget would you recommend starting with a sprinter van or cargo van? Thank you for your time!
Brother i love the info. I just bought a sprinter and im trying to get rolling. I heard you say i didnt need all the dot and elds. What do i need to get going if you dont mind me asking you and where did you get your loads.
Thanks for the support! I’m subscribed to your channel, you’ve put out some great content as well!!! Ohio, Tennessee, Michigan, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, North Carolina & Georgia are all areas I did pretty well in.
I've been a broker for the last 7 years, I'm about to go into the owner operator sprinter van business. I paid a sprinter 5700 for Modesto California to Jersey City New Jersey just last week. I'm curious about your numbers weekly, are you just doing in town stuff? Feels like there's a lot more to be made than 2100 a week
So if a person wanted to learn the game and get their feet wet ; is a sprinter van the best way to start and if so ; can you realistically make money like the box truck ; without running yourself to death metaphorically speaking ?
Where are you getting your loads for the sprinter and cargo vans from? I have been a dispatcher for 5 months now and loads for them come far and few in between.
If you have a "d.o.t. Number you are required by law to abide by those rules...even Companies that are local have driving hour rules. Don't get in trouble
I currently have my cdl and do local for a company. I’m thinking of buying a sprinter van one of those Ford 250s like Amazon uses and maybe starting out doing it on weekends or after work just to see how it goes my question is if I get my hazmat do you think that would give me an advantage in the sprinter truck game. I’m just scared to jump into it headfirst at this point because the job I have driving a truck is OK but if I could make more of the sprinter van I’ll do it anyway thanks for the video I’m trying to learn as much as I can about this stuff
Thanks for the info man I’m really thinking about buying a sprinter van I’ve got some money saved up I just don’t know how to start it where do I get my loads at what kind of a license do I need for license plate I got a CDL class say I’ve been out here for about 19 years over the road but I’m really looking at the sprinter game I really wanna get into it if you have any info for a beginner just let me know I appreciate it my brother
Hey, I just completed my dispatch course and got some sprinter van carriers. I have no real experience with sprinter vans. Where can I find loads for sprinter vans? I check the DAT boards but I barely saw any. Please any help is appreciated!
I leased my van on with an expedited shipping company, I have a step-by-step course that includes 15 expedited shipping companies, 5 brokerage companies & a load board specifically for cargo vans. It’s $200 if you’re interested
I'm in this business since 2011. Do I regret it? Nope. Would I go back again in Hot Shot? Nope. Since 2011 I had 2 new Sprinters. My total mileage is 1400 000 miles so far. I see you are new to this business. So, your advises are really off. But I believe you had a good intentions. Good luck.
