1) I’m tired of my husband not wearing shirts and them hanging idle in the closet. I cut them up and sewed the item I needed.
Master Class:
- I cut off the collar of the shirt and immediately cut out a V-shaped neck, taking into account that the depth of the neckline should end just above the button.
- I also tamed the sleeve, its length can be above the elbow or below, you can add fabric to the lapel.
Neck treatment:
- I laid a line along the neckline. I advise you to lay a stabilizing stitch along all oblique cuts so that the fabric does not stretch.
- I cut out the bias tape, placed it on the wrong side and stitched it, then turned it right side out.
- I made these lines in the corners.
- Then I turned the binding over from the front side and stitched it.
- I hemmed the sleeve, it is wide, lowered, like a kimono.
Shuttlecock:
- I used a second shirt for him. I cut it into strips 30 cm wide, sewed them together, overcast them, and hemmed them along the edges. Then I made a line on one side and gathered it into folds.
The length of the flounce should be 1.5-2 times longer than the side to which it is sewn.
- I sewed the shuttlecock to the robe.
- I overcast the missing loop and sewed on a button.
- I hemmed the robe.
- A mandatory detail is pockets. I sewed a belt from leftover fabric.
- If you like comfortable loungewear, you don’t have to make it narrower.
Despite the loose cut, the robe looks feminine, and the belt emphasizes the figure.
2) I took my husband’s shirt to make myself an outfit for the summer. Take a look and you'll see that an old shirt is good for more than just rags.
It is interesting to alter such things, since some of the seams and pockets are preserved and there is less work.
The shirt can also be turned into a full-fledged skirt. If the shirt is large, then it is quite enough for sewing without any inserts.
If you have a size 50+, then you can insert stripes from the sleeves into the side seams of the skirt and the size will increase significantly. Even using all the pieces of the shirt for inserts and a belt, the skirt will turn out quite decent. My shirt is oversized.
- First I cut off the collar and sleeves.
- I drew oblique lines for the side seams of the skirt, thereby cutting off the armhole of the shirt.
- I ripped the bottom of the shirt so that I could carefully hem it again.
- My shirt is enough to tuck it around my waist. If there is not enough, use all the cut pieces.
- I folded the fabric over the waistband and stitched it.
- Then I took an elastic band 3 cm wide, marked its width and sewed another line, it turned out to be a drawstring.
- There is 1 cm left at the top for assembly.
- I inserted the elastic and stitched the edges. I also sewed elastic along the side seams so that it would not turn over while wearing.
- I made a loop and sewed a button on the belt.
- From the remnants of the fabric I sewed straps and a long belt.
- This is how you can easily and simply turn a man’s shirt into a women’s summer skirt.
Try this and you will see that an old shirt is good for more than just rags.
3) Turned a simple shirt into an unusual one. To do this, I cut off the cuffs and cut it front and back. The whole secret is in the knitted inserts.
To work you will need a strip of thin knitwear. I took a width of 10 cm. Using this strip I will make something like a yoke.
First, I marked the places on the shirt where the insert would be sewn. To make it symmetrical, I drew a paper template.
- Placed the insert in a circle: on the shelves and back. She stretched the bottom and pulled the top edge together.
- I basted the bottom of the insert to the shirt and stitched it. Then I made a cut to sew in the top insert. Then I decided to fold the fabric on the shirt and sew it on top to the insert.
- There will be cuffs on the sleeves. To do this, you need to try on the shirt and note how much you need to cut to get the desired length.
- I measured the width of the cuffs according to myself, sewed the seams and folded the fabric in half. I sewed the cuffs to the sleeves using an overlocker.
With this method, the size and style remained the same, only the sleeves became shorter. But the appearance has changed.
Thus, the inserts can be inserted anywhere on the garment. And if the shirt is small, then sew knitted inserts into the side seams and into the seams on the sleeves.
