00:00 Intro: Why Ditch The Lint Roller?
Clothing care can be a costly business. But did you know there’s a relatively cheap tool out there that could potentially save you a bundle in dry cleaning bills? And no, it’s not a lint roller. The tool that purports to quickly and efficiently clean your garments. Instead, it's a clothes brush.
Lint rollers have been dominating the marketplace for many years now. And while they’ve got a lower upfront cost, they’re going to be more expensive than investing in a clothes brush in the long run.
Lint rollers also have the potential to damage your clothing as the adhesive can leave a residue, and also only address the outermost surface of the fabric.
02:30 What Is a Clothes Brush?
Lower-end ones will have plastic/synthetic bristles, but higher-end ones will be made from natural fibers like horsehair. Before the invention of the lint roller, they were the de facto choice men used to “brush up” their clothing after a day of wear.
03:35 Why Should I Use a Clothes Brush?
Clothes brushes help remove not just lint, but dust, dirt, hair, and other unwanted substances from your clothing.
While clothes that are regularly laundered such as shirts, socks, and underwear won’t require much attention from a clothes brush, larger items that aren’t subject to everyday laundering will benefit from a clothes brush
07:12 What Should I Look For in a Clothes Brush?
1. A Separate Handle and Head
2. A Hardwood Body
3. Natural Bristles
09:43 How to Properly Use a Clothes Brush
Clothes brushes are best used on garments that are on a good, strong hanger or even better, a tailor’s bust or silent valet. To get the best use of your clothes brush, you’ll want to employ short, brisk flicking motions as you brush.
Start by going against the nap of the garment, as it’s this initial motion that expels the most debris from your garments, and repeat until you feel confident you’ve achieved your goal. Once you’ve brushed the garment against the nap, it’s time to repeat the brushing motion in the opposite direction.
So, when it comes to clothing care, there are few investments as practical & desirable as a clothes brush. While lint rollers will continue to dominate the market, not everything new is necessarily better

I have two brushes, one a regular brush and one for finer work, but I also use a lint roller as I have an older cat that sheds a lot. I also take the roller when I travel. As always, Great information Preston!

It seems sad that this needs to be taught now. In my suit wearing days when any office work required it, one a year, at most, was it dry cleaned. My Kent clothes brushes are decades old and show no wear except for some wood pings where they were dropped. I once had a tweed sport-coat so tweedy that I had to buy a horse grooming brush to get the dust and dirt from a ramble out. It never needed to be dry cleaned. I miss that coat and tweed of that thickness is probably unattainable now. One finer point of brushing you missed is using the tip of the brush to brush out seams as it is abrasive dust that will cut the seam threads causing weakening and seam failure. Also the technique of misting the brush to help refreshen the fibers in low humidity environments.

I have my Kent clothes brush for 10 years and recently I bought another one from Acca Kappa, it doesn't have a separate handle, more like the Arterton one in your video, but it's an absolutely fantastic quality brush, made from makassar wood.

I picked up a "Lint Brush" from Ikea last year and it allowed me to throw away my lint roller permanently. It works quickly and captures hair and lint better than a brush. Any thoughts on these? It seems a little different than most other products.
@elyesayilmaz459
@elyesayilmaz459 3 месяца назад
I have one "brush" from IKEA too. It removes lint, dirt and dust very well on my coat. But unfortuanetly it removes the fabric from my navy coat too. At some point there will be no coat. The normal lint roller does a decent job. What I like about a normal lint roller is that there is no dust, dirt and lint being brushed in the air which finally gets into my lungs. Even though I think a clothes brush is much more appealing. Probably because I link it with class, tradition and culture. Things that make me feel good. Maybe even special. So I got a cheap clothes brush from one of Istanbuls bazaars and it neither has a seperated grip or is made of hard wood. I brushed over my navy pant while wearing it and while not wearing it. It did a pretty good job and that is also one of the reasons why I bought the brush. I also thought about me not having a clothes brush and simply wanting to try it out. I didn't want miss out on the experience of using a clothes brush. Coming back to the problem of having the dust in the air and inhaling it. I brushed my pants indoors and simply felt uncomfortable with the knowledge that now dust is being brushed into to air which will eventually enter my breathing system. Maybe my thoughts will inspire some of you guys. Have a good time.

I use tape rollers on my dark shirts. Over time the fabric on a lot of my shirts have gotten thinner. I thought it was just from washing and wearing them so much, but now I’m sure it’s from using a tape roller on them over and over on them. I never knew there was clothes brush. Great to know this.

Great video! Even though the idea of using 100% Horse Hair bush has been around for ages, however, I have two, yes two.: 1. Labelled cloths only, 2. Labelled shoes only. I used a sharpie to label them and keep them separate from each other. Also lint rollers _(and other devices)_ may be cheap to buy, however, one has to keep replacing the roller and cost a lot of money in the long run! And those lint roller could damage the clothing fibres! Like with analogue quartz watches, you have to replace the battery every year - _$15 - $25_ and may contain mercury _even they say they don't! So it its better to buy a wind up/automatic watch!

Absolutely! As velvet and corduroy exist in the same family, you may find this to be one of the few moments where a combination brush and lint roller works best. The brush will release dirt below the surface, and the lint roller works to remove surface-level dirt and lint
