Want my slips leash? Ours had a spring loaded stopper so it doesn’t slide down the dogs neck. buynobaddogs.com/products/red-no-bad-dogs-4ft-biothane-slip-leash
@@tomdavisofficialmy lab mix is obsessed with a ball if I have that she is crazy focused. Sometimes not in a good way but needs some energy out before training then she is good with it.
I have been recommending your slip lead demonstration videos to people quite often! There’s another (very well-known) person online who uses them incorrectly and I feel like aversive tools used incorrectly is so damaging. I appreciate you for this. 🙂
One of the best trainers I've seen. To many People have dogs they think are trained because they think they trained a dog how to sit and lay down as if the dog didn't know how to do those things already. It takes persistence, emotionally and physically challenging rewarding experiences..patience, understanding and that all takes time which people don't put in. So they get a retractable leash and dog treats to give the dog so they don't feel as guilty about not being willing to put in the time and effort. They take care of the dog physically but they have no idea what it is to build a meaningful relationship with an animal.
You don’t need to put a dog through training to have a meaningful relationship with them. My relationship with my dog actually improved drastically when I chucked everything I learned in dog training classes is the bin and went back to my old ways of treating my dog like my child or best friend. We are both much happier and he is much better behaved.
Damn you took me years back when I was 15 and had no clue about prong collars, any kinda collar really and I was training my first dog 😅 - so many lessons were learned 🤣🤣🤣
Just to comment - make sure it’s forming the letter P as it goes over the dog’s head. If it was going the other way, it tightens but does not release as it should.
I have martingale collars for my dogs, and no matter how tight I adjust it, it always slips down my German Shepherd's neck. It fits perfectly on my Great Pyrenees, and she has no problems with it, but my gsd's collar never fits right. He's a 10 month old short hair.
This may be wrong place to ask, but I have tried and tried unsuccessfully to position my dog’s prong collar in this way, for the same reasons. If I remove enough link to keep it up just behind her ears, then it’s so snug there’s no flexibility for a quick corrective snap. I’ve had this problem with other dogs, too. I wonder if my dog and I would do better with a slip lead such as this.
A slip lead would be easier to position and likely stay in place over a long walk as opposed to the collar. A martingale may also be a better option for you if you prefer a collar.
Hi, Tom... Can you please do a video of the proper way to put on a prong collar and where it should ALWAYS sit on a dogs neck, please?? I see SO many people that have them hanging low on the neck, loose & imo would be very easy for the dog to slip? Also, I was told by a trainer that I didn't need anything bigger than a 3mm link for my girls, littermates, both 18mo old about 50lbs ea.? Is there a standard size you prefer? TIA 😊 Love your videos!! Only wish I found them a year ago.. lol 😅❤ (PS I did hear you say "any" corrective collar should be worn this way, but a visual would be great since so many are not used/worn properly. 😢)
The seresto collar is a flea and tick collar and the martingale is a flat collar with a chain that will tighten the collar to a point, people sometimes use it as a corrective collar but it’s main purpose is for dogs with smaller heads compared to their necks so that they can’t slip it off.
How old does a dog have to be to use one? Our puppy is around 20 weeks so like 5 months. Is he still too young for a skip leash or is he big enough? He’s an Australian cattle dog.
@@katelynsk9s354 he absolutely did not. The most important part, he said nothing about. He only talked about placing it high behind the ear. And if you don't know what I'm saying you shouldn't use a choke chain or slip lead
Man I’m really having problems with my dog of over 4 years. Ever since she got attacked by another dog. Not only to other dogs but to humans too. I know it comes from fear. She barks at anyone who gets up if we’re sitting down, my husband feeds her and walks her but she will still bark at him. No one can hug, play around, and rowdy at all because she starts to crazily bark. I think it’s fear, no I know it’s fear. Idk why she is so fearful. And she hates my son because he is rough with her and he has calmed down with it after him getting in trouble for it but she fears him and he is the only one she always tries to nip at even if he is just walking fast through the house. She also has a high prey drive. She is a lab/Jack Russell mix. I have tried allot of things with her and have corrected allot of other things she had going on but walking her is a nightmare and having her in the house is a nightmare! Anyone have any pointers? I search RU-vid but videos never have good advice on our exact needs.
That flea collar made my young dog sick. He became lethargic and hot. Took it off and he got better. Tryed the collar the next day and same thing happened. Took it off him and have never put another flea collar on him. I get a pill once a year during peak season from a vet and my dog does fine.
i’m surprised this slip lead doesn’t have the spring retainer that he’s shown before. you should look one of those up. he might even sell it on his site.
YEEESSSS Same on my Belgian Malinois. I'm short and I have a slip lead with a spring lock so I figured I just hadn't found the best posture and position to keep it high and tight. 🤷🏼♀️
Thanks for the video and think my dog is either having some allergy or aversion to prong is that possible? I would like to try slip but I’m confused…Why does your website have this advice below for your slip leash…can a larger Dog not use these? The orange slip is made from 6mm rope, which is recommended for dogs 25 pounds and under. The green slip is comprised of 7mm rope and intended for dogs weighing over 25 lbs but no more than 60 lbs.
I have two of these, one is very thick and one is skinny like this, i have an Aussie, he is probably around 40-50lbs but fluffy furbal is an understatement. Should i use the fat lead or the skinny one like this?
