Stop Wasting Money on Putters.

TLDR: my own personal experience suggests that putter technology advancements are just as important as those of driver, woods, irons, etc. from the perspective of a mid to high handicap player. Chances are, a low handicap could play my Ping Eye 2s and Anser blade and still shoot well. But the right putter in the hands of a high handicap player can greatly reduce the number of three putts with considerably less practice than just picking a bargain off the shelf. I started playing golf again last year after a 25 year break. The first putter I bought was a PLD Anser 2. It was a piece of jewelry, absolutely beautiful putter. Unfortunately, after years away from the game, my putting stroke was absolutely horrendous. Even with lots of practice, I still couldn’t get away from that dreaded figure eight stroke. After a few months of frustration, I got fitted for a Scotty Cameron Phantom X12. It’s got a beefier weight, higher MOI, and a face balanced toe hang. While my handicap has come down by quite a bit in the last year, the biggest improvement has been from putting. No more of that figure eight garbage, and straight four footers aren’t nearly as scary. So yeah, nothing wrong with saving some bucks on used clubs or cheaper brands, but I think the putter is too important of a club to just grab some random deal off of eBay because it’s in good condition. Granted, if lowering your handicap isn’t a big deal to you, then sure, don’t go hungry just to get a high-end putter. Maybe I misconstrued your argument in this video (admittedly, I was a bit distracted while watching), but this comment is a response to the part about technology in other clubs vs putters. Distance control is king in putting. High handicappers are much more likely to have off center strikes on their putters, leaving themselves five feet short with a low MOI putter vs two feet short with a high MOI putter. I’ll take a two-footer over sweating a five-footer any day. And if you covered all of that, sorry, blame my wife for distracting me 😂

I say get properly fit for a putter first of all - it is the club you will use the most every round. I changed from my SC Studio 5 to the Cobra Supernova 3D printed with SiK face. I have to say modern putters have so much tech and forgiveness vs older putters its insane. I spent $300 on my Cobra Supernova and it performs so much better per use than anything else I have.

Bought my Bimini Blade Rife 15 years ago. It performs better than modern putters. I will never use another one.
