@@menace2society00You can get a quart of white gas camp fuel, which is the same exact thing a Zippo lighter fluid, for $7. They mark their fuel up tremendously. It’s a ripoff.
Why not? I ran a car on Zippo fluid once. My pal parked on a very steep slope, when there was very littl gas in the tank. Traction was bad, and he burnt up the gas in the line, pump and bowel trying to get back up. Couldn't go down, it was a creek bank. I got his can of zippo fluid, raised the hood, and took the top off the air cleaner. He got the car out while I squirted a steady flow of zippo down the carb. The exhaust smelt great.
Just by a can of naphtha, it's not as cheap as gasoline but it's what zippos are designed to burn, in Canada it's like $15 a gallon, which lasts a very long time in a Zippo
VM& P Naphtha Blue, brown, white lined container is secretly what zippo uses as their fluid 20 bucks will get you 2 containers that will last for probably 4yrs
I use a solvent called Disan or Disol in my country. It was used with all wick lighters and doesn't smoke like petrol. It is also used to remove the paint on fingernails. Petrol is used in emergency situations.
I ran out of fluid one day and was forced to try cologne because I knew it was flammable. two little squirts on the wick and bam it lit, but omg did it make a ciagrette taste horrible for the first hit or two. I would not advise doing this unless its all you got and need a fire lit.
@@OldNavajoTricksyeah, don’t do that, had a imitation scrimshaw one with the ships, I was just “experimenting” and used nail polish, it caught flame but then I put my zippo in a jar, didn’t think nothing about fumes, went to use my lighter again and the celluloid was all melted and the ships were smearing…….. then years later it got up to 90 one day at my place and the rest of the fake scrimshaw plates just peeled completely off! Now I got what looks like a brand new chrome zippo, lol actually using that one right now
I once used all the gas in my mini bike without asking. When my dad told me to mow the lawn I panicked. I grabbed a giant bottle of Jean Nate perfume from my sister’s bathroom and filled up the mower. The mower ran like it was on NOS for about 5 minutes before seizing. There was no hiding the SMELL and I was busted. I did however learn how to rebuild small engines that summer. 🤣
Well, I recently used Off bug spray to start a diesel engine instead of starting fluid.....one of my guys even used spray paint (I don't recommend it). Whatever works. Lol
I looked up the MSDS sheet for Zippo branded fluid. Naphtha 25 to 50% and unnamed petroleum distillates 50 to 100%. So evidently there is something other than naphtha, but they aren't saying.
Soldiers in Vietnam did the same thing my history teachers father told me when they need a smoke they a get wire and run it through the tank fuel and fill up there lighters it did do some damage to the zippo but hey when you need a smoke it works in a pinch
That doesn’t make any sense. What do you mean They run wire into the fuel tank and then what? Magic happens and the zippo is full? Do you mean they used a hose or tube of some kind and then used a vacuum to siphon fuel out of the tank?
@@Jay22222 you'd hook the end of a long piece of stiff wire through one of the holes in the chimney to dip the whole liner down into a large fuel tank where it could soak up fuel.
In my country Zippo sells their fluid for 4.5$ a piece, which is actually cheap for me, since I’m a smoker I use it a lot. But butane is still a bit cheaper I guess. A metal Clipper lighter with Clipper’s flints and butane seems like the most sensible lighter available today. They sell slim metal versions, and they’re just 10$. They sell their flint stones and butane for just about the same price with Zippo, but they’re extremely high quality just like Zippo. And they’re basically indestructible just like Zippos. All metal and sturdy. But still, a butane lighter starts to malfunction at certain temperatures and humidities. Also the wind is your enemy when you are using a butane lighter. Zippo is perfect for all conditions and for life. The only back-draw of a Zippo is the well known fluid vaporization. Which is the actual reason why you spend so much money on the fluid. The fluid itself is actually much more economical compared to the butane. But it vaporizes continuously during the day, and needs a refill every few days even if you don’t use it at all. But since I’m a smoker who also uses the lighter for outdoor stuff, Zippo is actually the only viable solution for me. Maybe apart from a butane torch.
You have wondered why the human likes the smell of gasoline. This is because the biological process of numbing our nerves activates the mesolimbic pathway, known as the brain's reward pathway. Every time our olfactory nerves receive a dose of benzene, the mesolimbic system releases dopamine molecules - one of the pleasure, feel-good hormones - thereby inviting addiction.
You can use MEK as well but it evaporates very quickly. Been a long time since I've used my Zippo, but iirc it would usually run dry within a few days or so
In a situation where resources are scarce, this will do just fine. In a world where resources are plenty, stick with the zippo fluid. It’s a lighter. Don’t overthink it.
If u want your lighter to stay in as good as new, u should use zippo fluid, it is very clean, filtered, gasoline might leave marks in the cotton or elsewhere
It’s not a waste of money to have a premium fuel for a premium lighter. Also, if you use a lighter regularly than compared to replacing a bic all of the time it’s probably comparable in price.
Kinda off topic, but maybe this'll help someone else: I received a trench lighter as a gift not long ago, and I wasn't sure what type of fluid to use, so I looked up that specific lighter. The description of the lighter, per the manufacturer said it takes kerosene... I put kerosene in it, and it lit up three times with a dozen spark attempts between each, and after that it just sparked with no flame, and ultimately no spark at all. I then bought Zippo fluid, but the kerosene already contaminated the inside of the lighter, so I had to take it apart and clean it with vinegar, and tried the Zippo fluid again, and it worked. So basically, don't use kerosene, even if the original instructions/source material says so lol
If im deseperate i use rubbing alcohol. Its not practical to fill the zippo with as it evaporates quickly and the flame is hard to see so you might think the lighter is out but in a pinch its good enough to light a quick cig or get a camp fire started
I see all of these youtube videos of people woth their goofy buntane lighters because they are "cool" meanwhile zippo is out here working with almost any flammable liquid in it
I did this a few times when I was in highschool.. found that gas evaporates way faster, aside from the smell and taste when you light a cigarette. Better off with Zippo or Ronsonal fluid honestly. But don't buy that 7/11 brand crap. It doesn't smell right and it doesn't light every time.
I’m the original instruction manual from the 30’s and 40’s it recommends to use lighter fluid and only gasoline in an emergency. Gas should not be a replacement for proper lighter fluid.
