It's amazing how much more productive you are when you don't use social media. I cut myself off 5 years ago, and I haven't missed it one second. I do like cute dog videos and smart people like you who actually teach good habits and make watching worthwhile. Thanks Izzy...I think you're awesome!
Heyyyy *high-five* me too....I used be a social media addict but numbing scrolling tired me out. (Thanks God). I don't consider myself an addict anymore but I still use it from time to time when I'm bore watching cute animal videos.
1) limit my screen time for all social media apps (no more than 1 hour a day) 2) Exercise: If I feel like picking up the phone go workout for an hour, run or bike instead. (Did this earlier today) Thank you Dr. Izzy, this video was what I needed to listen to. Have a nice day!
I saw the initial introduction of the smartphone and social media from a perspective where I personally never got "involved". I've since then found it curious to try and figure out what sort of activities were going on on such platforms, and how these technologies are used. The idea that most people just stare down into their phones suddenly just appeared as a cultural phenomenon and I can't say from where it came. Everyone were suddenly just into this new thing - and they knew so much about it. Ever since, people speak of how much time it takes and how social media has become a form of addiction. At the same time, so many people are seemingly... doing so many things, and keeping up what they refer to as a busy schedule. In my mind, it just doesn't add up; if they are all so busy, where do these supposed hours they waste come from? I've found this question perplexing for the last few years. In your case for instance, how is it at all possible for you to have had time to familiarise yourself with such a habit, given how much time has been spent on studies and a variety of other tasks? Where do these hours come from? I am genuinely confused, and I suspect I could have been asking a similar question to a lot of people in a similar kind of situation. As for the video itself, I don't necessarily think I am the main audience for these tips, but I do suspect that they could be highly beneficial for many of these people who are caught in the habit.
The notification (stop wasting your life and break your online addiction) popped up when I was on my 2 hour of watch RU-vid straight, thank you I think I need to take a long break
Izzy, I'm a new subscriber and I hope you'll see this comment because you are one of the most impressive people I've ever encountered on the internet. I am awed that you are a qualified doctor in YOUR MID TWENTIES! To get a sniff of a chance of just an interview at medical school (Cambridge no less!) requires a knowledge of maths, biology and chemistry far beyond what most people possess. You will have memorised many thick medical textbooks, passed tremendously difficult exams, and you do what must be a hugely demanding and stressful job. You somehow also have the time to learn other languages, practice yoga, read, sing and play guitar, and presumably have a social life in there somewhere. I can't imagine how you find time to eat/sleep/blink etc! Best wishes, from someone more than a decade older and far less intelligent and accomplished. P.S. My apologies for sounding so unctuous!
Btw, it's a great deal to control yourself from doing non-productive things, such as unnecessary intake of social media. I'm trying to get control over myself everyday, & it IS hard but, at the end, it's worth it!❤
I have read the book called "how to break up with your phone" it was so eye-opening book. I learned a lot form it. Your video, for me, is a very good reminder that I should come back to those practices as lately I came back to my habit of scrolling. I think it's very important to be mindful of what we have on our phones and as we use them. They should be our "helper" not our brains🧠. So thank you for the video and reminding me to slow down with scrolling ;).
It’s also important to note, this popular, fast editing style that cuts out all breathing and pauses is certainly stress-inducing. I’d be interested in studies that show the body’s adverse reactions to it. But we don’t need a study, because we all know it’s true just by experiencing daily.
I met someone who talked just like you at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at the Universal Studios in Los Angeles and she completely blew my mind. It was so unreal!
It's taken me about a month searching for this channel since i last watched one of your videos(first six months as a doctor) and you won't believe how happy i am to find you. ❤
Meditation and learning to be present helped me overcome PTSD and live a happier live. This is so helpful to many Izzy. Thank you. Ps the editor is so talented 😊
Everyone is talking about the context in the video, but noone has addressed that she's holding her mic with a fork, this is amazing! Rode should sell fork mics.
Hi Izzy, thank you for your helpful insights. I have relied upon meditation for many years to cope with depression, hypertension as well as just general healing of the mind.(It really works.). I just wish that more people would truly use as part of their daily lives. As you know, psychiatric services are not easily accesible by many and we're seeing more mental disorders after the Covid epidemic. Keep up the encouragement and further promotion of mediatation and mindfulness. It will help many people who need mental health services.❤
Your clip will be a lot more helpful for today's generation like us. As you're into meditation and mindfulness, I really recommend learning "Abhidharma". You could practice at the same time.
Maybe being proactive with that the replacement behavior will be could help. It is hard to end a habit without replacing it with some action. Lately I try to open pinterest and do art studies or open language learning app and study Spanish. I also took the free time to reevaluate my goals in life and how I can get there with the free time. I have been leaving my charger at home so I am encouraged to not scroll mindlessly on my phone during the day. I keep a car charger so I am never lost.
Really helpful content Izzy. First action I have already taken is I turned my phone into grayscale mode. Next action point is going to be journaling everything down
I want myself down so bad, that no one can imaginable of. And after that I'm gonna write a piece of art for to inspire other people how to leave this damn situation
Good content... I can't break it down by myself, after working for 45 years programming computers... The addiction to programming was always there for everybody and after some time it disappeared... I don't know why. And I hoped it would happen also for the digital addiction...
I've decided to meditate from now on, and I actually really liked your suggestion of reviewing which accounts I follow on social media. I've realised that I have been following accounts that bring nothing but quick doses of dopamine, with funny videos and so on, and they keep showing up every few scrolls. Some of them might give me some motivation to pursue one of my goals (which is actually also to be fluent in Chinese) but rather than seeing them, it'd be better to invest this time into actively studying. All in all, thank you so much for this amazing video, this was the push I needed to make changes!
“Measurement is the first step that leads to control and and eventually to improvement. If you can’t measure something, you can’t understand it. If you can’t understand it, you can’t control it. If you can’t control it, you can’t improve it.” 🎉 I appreciate that, this is my first time I know you but your content encourage me a lot 1) Use greyscale mode 2) Mediatation
Everywhere I go I see people mesmerised by their phones. Its very sad and these phones are dumbing us down. Next time you go somewhere try to not take your phone. Ypu dont need to take it jogging or walking. Leave it in your car and take a break from radiation.
I install TikTok for like day or two, "why I watch this random stuff that give me unclear information", and I uninstall it. The first thing is having a screen time widget and care about it.
trust me Izzy you deserve a lot of views and subscribers. manage sometime from your everyday life and publish at least one video a week if possible then RU-vid will promote your channel on their own. Best of luck Izzy.
good to see the practices of buddha dharma being recognised. In, out Deep, slow Calm, ease Smile, release Present moment, wonderful moment if you use this poem during sitting or walking meditation, it can be very nourishing and healing. - Thick Nhat Hanh
Thanks for the video. More and more people around us are addicted to mobile phone. There are simply too much attention grabbing events 'inside' the phone
Thanks izzy for the wonderful video! I would 100% try this 5 days since I've realized my attention span has gone down quite a bit.hope it works! 2 actions i will commit to. 1) i would like to have like a nice study section every day since sometimes i take 9 hours study section and the other times not studying at all and feel guilty 2) just reduce my screen time and do something else more productive or better. (Maybe this could be my study section every day 🙃) Making plans while writing this HAHA
Dr . lzzy , There's nothing good about anyone spacing out in real life or even in their dreams . Your natural intelligence and never-so-blanking habits have made you feel satisfied and outstanding in many areas . 🌹 💗 💇
I would think you are a perfectionist. Thanks for the video, I hope watching your video more could change my life. And if so, I will definitely let you know once I am able to change my habits!
If I'm not gonna use an app at least once a day, I just don't have it on my phone. No notifications, mostly just native iPhone apps, it's become a much more utility based experience vs hobby/obsession. Also the greyscale idea is nice but as an old cinema/noir fan I find it just as alluring lol
