Demonstrates how framing the problem can influence thinking. Gotham gave us what would look like a white PoV with ‘make the next move’ of course you’d think white to play and you must fork the queen to avoid checkmate. Selfish my ass Gotham 😤

But it not bothering me probably has to do with the fact I don't do a lot of puzzles (besides trying to solve stuff in agadmator videos) meaning I didn't have it ingrained in me that being it's the turn of the one at the bottom to play

Thats the point. The whole point of that example wasnt to show how good you are at chess and see mate or not, the point is that a lot of players dont care to know about the situation theyre in, instead all they ever see is what they wanna do. In that example he never said whose turn it is, yet the first thing we all think of is the fork, when we havent known whose turn it is yet.

Yes, but isn't it standard procedure that in these puzzles that the side at the bottom is the side whose turn it is? In this case it is quite normal to presume it's whites turn to move and secondly if Gotham is presenting this how am I supposed to ask him the question of whose turn it is?

Imagine someone had seen the mate but then also saw the fork prevents the mate? Like We had 2s to look at that board... We are shown from whites pov... We have a check, which kinda means if black can't take back, they lose their queen... So if there's nothing those two dead rooks on the back an do and no checks blacks bishops can deliver, then like... What?

That first example doesn’t show as much as you’d think. A puzzle assumes the colour on your side of the board goes first, and as such, the player would implicitly assume white is going first in that case. If it was black to move, the board would be rotated. White’s fork would fully shut down black’s checkmate threat, making it a non issue. Regardless if the player saw the fork or the checkmate threat first, the same move solves the puzzle.

I think the best move would be Knight to g3 since doesn’t allow the queen to checkmate and the pawn can take the queen if the queen takes the knight. Another move would also be Rook to e4 as it blocks the bishop and the queen defends the rook since it can capture the bishop if it takes the rook.
