Thanks for the advice. I'm a new wet shaver (only have completed 2 DE shaves so far) and I've had some irritation and a couple nicks. I've always used mach 3 and canned cream/gel prior. I've watched a lot of your vids and you make it look so easy! I'm having a hard time getting the hang of the correct angle. My 2nd shave came out much better/closer than the first but I got some razor bumps on my neck. Hopefully I get the hang of it soon. Love your vids and cheers from USA!
Thanks, glad your sticking to it, once you find the right angle of the razor for yourself, and also remember "no pressure" on the razor when shaving, it may sound silly, but it makes a big difference in irritation in most cases. Thanks. Paul.
Paul great stuff. My best shaves are right out of the shower. I'm a m new to De shaving bought a Parker99r after hearing you recommend it. Still deciding on a blade. I have Wilkinson Sword, Lord, and Shark came with it. Wilkinson seem good and you sure can't beat the price. I got my razor and a pack of blades shipped to my door for less than a 5 pack of Gillet Fusion razors. Now for 1.78 for 10 Sword blades I'm hooked. Thanks for you videos keep them coming.
Great advice, I pretty much follow a similar system, except instead of cologne or AS I use one of Thayers witch hazel toners, toners restore the ph balance of the skin and remove any residue a face wash may have missed and witch hazel has a natural medicating property, if I want the scent of AS I'll apply it to my lower neck, chest, inner wrists etc anywhere but my shaven face.
Good advice, and tips, I am lucky with aftershave or cologne these days, as my skin is used to the three pass system of shaving, so hopefully this video will help some people. Thanks. Paul.
That's great to hear, a big saving shaving this way, and a better shave I think too..The Wilkinson Sword bldes are a great middle of the road blade, Thanks for your comment. Paul.
Hi Paul, Some great advice here, especially about good prep. I used to get some irritation on my lower neck but now only give that area two passes with three passes on the hardier areas of my face. After watching your videos I started following up the shave with an aftershave lotion which I found worked well. The alcohol will help reduce razorburn but if you have sensitive skin or poor technique it will sting rather than tingle. Learn from the feedback your face gives you. H.ve a Great New Year.
Very interesting that, have to admire your Father with the beard too..keeping it neat etc...I agree with the DE shaving will be the way forward...(again). Thanks. Paul.
Yes I remember you, and it was your comment along with a few others which inspired me to make this quick video, glad your getting better shaves, no razor burn etc, it becomes more enjoyable then, as it should be. Thanks. Paul.
Maybe you remember my comment about razor burn couple days ago. I'm beginner in the wet shaving and my skin was burning. Really hurts to touch. But I've tried some new things. 1. soak with hot water before shaving 2. no pressure on razor 3. different angle (30 degree) 4. balm after shaving 5. classic Nivea creme . No razoburn or irritation in these days! Great feelings after my shaving. Skin is more adapted. I don't use cologne yet, just cold water. Cheers, Paul. Great video as usual :)
All great info. I have found that for me, washing my face with with plain soap after I shave and before the head shave, rids me of the irritation I get with some soaps that have high fragrance. Fragrance burn can really get to ya.
I have found that using a generous coat of noxzema as a pre-shave cream then applying a hot towel over top of that for a few minutes works the best for me. I had alot of irritation on my neck also but get none after doing this first.
I tend to only do skin stretching when I use my Shavette. And I’ve been having redness with my XTG passes with my Muhle R-41 I use Proraso preshave too. Do u recommend skin stretching with DE as well
any Pucks, any hard soaps or ARKO Sticks will work? You can mix and match old soaps? to fit in any mug or cup that you like to use. like Mitchells' Wool Fat? Cut the bar soap up, put in a mug, cover the soap with a small amount of water, microwave for a minute or so? if it foams up, stop ? let cool you just went it to congeal' place in the sun, until soap hardens use dry brush more water i use Dove soaps there cheap and good wheelchair Larry Merry Christmas
A circle cotton pad soaked with witch hazel after cold rinse does wonders for my face and neck. After that dries I apply a thick balm or cream. I like to do witch hazel again few hours later and again before bed. This really helps my neck look blemish free for the most part!
Thanks for the video! I have really sensitive skin on my face, I get razor burn easily, plus if I shave too often during the week my face bleeds terribly. Thanks for the tips, I'm going to give some of them a try and hopefully they help. Also as a side question, are you from the southport area of England?
Hi Paul I like chubby razors and they are usually heavy and the shaving is made with more pressure due to the safety razor weight and it irritates my skin. I was looking for an answer to my neck area irritation. Thanks and I look forward your last new year's eve shaving Happy new year my dear friend.
I will probably use it in my next shaving video, so see how it does...I will use it as well as soap, I know it is meant to be instead of soap, but I will use the two .
Also find that find a razor that suits your needs some need a slant razor and some need a less agresive razor definitely depends on the person and what razor will be best for you
And last: i was hurting so much one day I tried my aloe/lidocaine sun burn jelly......it's the best thing for extreme cases..... I have super sensitive skin
Paul , I have only started de shaving . My first mouth . I have a Merkur 38 c. I love it but am still getting razer burn . I shave every 3 days . I am using nivia shave cream with Astra blades . So It must be me not what I am using . Thanks for the video . I am not going to give up .
Your skin is probably stilll getting used to the shaving this way, should get better as the weeks go on.....every three days is a good way of doing it.....all the best and thanks....Paul.
I suffered from the same thing, but I like a BBS finish. The shaving purists will turn their noses up to my remedy but what works for me is to use an electric razor first, we'll hydrate my beard then use my regular razor. Since then, I've had no troubles with skin irritation or ruined shirt collars from stubble. I'd prefer not to do it this way but at the end of the day, I have to accept it.
Your doing what is important for you Eric, making the shave work, and making it comfortable, that is all that matters, thanks for sharing....all the best....Paul.
I just use my DE, and do a one pass shave, against the grain, I have sensitive skin, and one blade, one pass, works for me. Use a great shave soap or cream and you should be good. ICE cold water after the shave, then apply a balm, and or aftershave, thats for senistive skin maybe will help those who shave daily as well.
To paul I had same problems as you I had redness just like what had and I went to johns lews and they said to me to use Clinique since I use Clinique I fell better and when I shave it better and why you don't like Clinique and you said don't like gel what different between gel and soap thanks
Thanks for your comment, when I used shaving Gel, it dried out my skin, but since using shaving soaps, I feel much better, and enjoy the shaves, leaves my skin with more moisture.......all the best.....Paul.
If I may, one time I showed up for work at a construction site and I hadn't had time to shave. We are not allowed on the job site unless we are clean shaven. Luckily my Foreman always carried razors in case someone forgot. But alas, no shaving cream. There was no way I was going to dry shave, because I have quite sensitive skin - so I bought a bottle of ice cold water from the catering truck, and used that to shave with. I thought my face would be on fire afterwards, but amazingly, I didn't feel the slight bit of irritation!
I do three pass just like what you do my beard start to grow after two days I shave every once weeks depends I do two pass and after that I do wash my face I do the same as yours and I with water just depends then I rinse with cold water I seen the razor what you use cost lot the razor same as you it cost lot of money
Thank you, yes some razors do cost a lot of money, you do usually get what you pay for in quality etc, but you do not need an expensive razor to get a nice clean and smooth shave.....all the best....Paul.
How often do you shave because I do three pass just what you said my beard grow after two days my beard grow I shave every once week depend on the beard grow some time I shave two weeks and what blade do you use
Thank you, it's more or less the same advice really, good prep before a shave is helpful, pre-shaving oil/cream if needed, light touch on the razor etc...hope you have some great shaves :-)
I hope you doing the video I watched all of it just let you know in case you do it let me know thanks for everything take care your the best and thanks take care
