I met B Clayton at a show in Mx. He was a great guy we became friends, used to give me advice what dogs to go with. At a show in La., he snuck me and 6 other ppl on top of the already 10 at the show. It was supposed to be 10 ppl per side. He gave the guy counting our side a 50. ...the guy looked at the 50 and then at us and said, ''looks like 10 ppl to me''.

Don was a great guy. I tried to match into him but he didnt have the weight, got one with D Maloney. Unfortunately, Maloney got shot a week or 2 into the condition. Finally went into K Allen. According to the match makers who set it up that day, it was the last big convention that happen in that area. I still have the BIS trophy from that evening. Really miss all those dogmen ..

I had one of this guys dogs. Bought it from this two couple didn't know it was one of Don Mayfield's dogs till I registered it under my name. I looked for the couple I bought it from and they told me that they had got it from him he was a cuure dog. As he got older the pup he started changing he couldn't stand to be around other males . John Joseph, bulldogs weren't originally used for hunting. They were from the beginning used in bull baiting and then dog fighting. I'm not supporting fighting dogs but history is true. Yes bulldogs have been used in hunting and will continue to be used for hunting (I'm glad of this). It's an amazing breed with many different strains and family lines.
Don Mayfield had some awful good dogs and one of his good dogs was the snake he was a very good dog I miss guys like him they're not around no more they was good though man
My first stock of dogs was bred off Mayfield's Snake and Mayfield's Sunshine. My partner won twenty-nine shows with these little dogs. This old stock was crossed with my last dogs of Creel x Boudreaux/Ed Crenshaw etc. Line is still in existence after thirty-five years or more. Still winning shows.

American Pit Bulls have got to be one of the hardiest, most versatile, and capable breeds out there. They are bred as all-around farm dogs for cattle and to hunt. Like it says at the dog breed info website..and I quote.."the American Pit Bull was bred as an all-around farm dog, working the farms as a cattle/hog dog." I don't know how I feel about pitfighting though. I mean I can see why people use and breed American Pit Bulls to be able to and excel at these things. Bullfighting, bear baiting, ratting, badger baiting, and then dogfighting may seem off the mark on what the American Pit Bull was bred to do..but it's actually not. The American Pit Bull is a catch dog for livestock and wild pigs. Though it is called farm work and hunting..what they are basically doing is fighting against another animal. Those pitfighting matches are a more measured and more competitive way of insuring the standards of this hardy working breed get upheld and that people continue to breed for standard, the most capable, and the most game. But these pitfighting matches are illegal in some places, even the ones where they are very popular it like America. I say to breed American Pit Bulls for purposes like hunting big game like wild pigs, deer, and bears and even smaller yet also very feisty game like raccoons, badgers, etc and breed for the best of those dogs if pitfighting is illegal a particular area. Hunting is a completely legit and legal activity that is what the American Pit Bull is all about (prey drive, power, athletic ability, the ability to hold onto another animal and not let go, etc.). It's not worth risking these great dogs to use them in an illegal activity that can get them taken, the owner arrested, and the dogs put down. People..if you breed American Pit Bulls or own American Pit Bulls and are looking for things to test them and breed the best for..then breed them for hunting game (big and/or small), weight pulling, and springpole. Great ways to use dogs for activities and make sure they are standard and breed quality. And those purposes are LEGAL. It's much, MUCH better than just breeding them based on looks and what you see on the end of a chain because you don't take part in illegal activities.
the APBT was literally bred to fight. Fuck the dog breed info website. Just look at a pedigree. Then look at some more...then you will see a trend. They all go back to the same dogs like Tudor's Dibo, Colby's Pincher, Boudreaux's Eli, etc... Every American Pit Bull Terrier and American Staffordshire Terrier alive go back to fighting dogs. They can all be traced back to Colby's Pincher. Now some of the show dogs registered with the UKC and AKC may be 80 years removed...they none the less go back to the same dogs...Those 80 years and the small percentage of dogs registered with the AKC makes the American Staffordshire Terrier a different breed than true APBTs of today.

I've talked to Floyd Boudreaux, I know Tom Garner(and more), both of these guys know greats like Norm Hooten, Maurice Carver, Fat Bill, etc. All Game Bred Pit Bulls, the only true American Pit Bull Terrier go back to the Tudor dogs, Carver dogs, Floyd dogs, Colby dogs, so do the Am Staffs...and before that they go back to the bull baiting dogs of England and Ireland. I've spent hours/days/months of my life studying pedigrees, tracing lineage,, and reading match reports from as far back as the 1800s . I don't care what that old man says. I've seen him running his mouth on plenty of documentaries, I'm as much of an expert as that guy, if not more. If you can find me pedigrees on APBT online pedigree database that don't go back to Tudor's Dibo or Colby's Pinscher that aren't filled with "unknown" I would be very surprised. That guy can talk and talk...and still probably hasnt moved from that chair talking....but the history has been written. And I've heard him say he owns and prefers game dogs in the past. I know he publishes books without having to listen to what he says in some link. They have been used for various purposes, that part is true...but they all go back to match dogs: Capital Period.

Even before they were brought to America..they were already well established and were being used for the things they were bred for like being catch dogs for wild pigs and bulls and in bullfighting. Even the term "Pit Bull" tells us what they have been used for (people put dogs into pits or arenas with bulls). Dogfighting started later after things like bullfighting were made illegal. From my knowledge he was down off a non conventional breeding. staff /apbt he won his hunts through smarts and ability but never produced much due to his genetic makeup . he was more of a freak occurrence than product of a quality breeding program .

The Pitbull Terrier is the greatest breed ever. They have no equal in the canine world. They were bred as farm dogs that would help and protect farmers from livestock, especially the bulls. If a bull or whatever tried to attack the farmer, the Pitbull Terrier would take it on and get it under control. That led to people using them to for battling large animals like bulls, bears, and wild boar and then battling/competing against each other in the sport of dog combat, which they dominate and are obviously the superior athlete, competitor, and gladiator for. There are idiots that actually believe that these large cur dogs like kangals and rotts are greater than Pitbull Terriers and would beat Pitbull Terriers.
