My 300ah Ampere Time LiFeP04 battery and 2000w inverter ran my tiny Frigidaire air conditioner through five Louisisna extreme heat emergency power outages in my 5th wheel camper since June. I use it with a 60 amp MPPT solar charger and top it up before storms with a plug-in 20 amp charger and keep track of usage after topping it off with a watt meter. The watt meter doesn`t measure losses in the inverter conversion but I`ve used up to 3500 of the 3800 ah in tests of the AC with no problems and voltage got down to almost 12v. I was caught off guard when a sudden storm hit while the battery was around 50% state of charge and it still ran the air conditioner through an all night power outage with the thermostat set to kick on and off. I just discovered that my two Bluetti EB70 power stations will run the air conditioner too and I can dump the charge of my 9 smaller power stations into those with their 200w chargers extending my run time. A juggling act...but great additional option in emergencies. When outside temps are 105 to 114....I`ll gladly take ANY amount of extra cool air I can scrounge up! I`m poor, living in the camper on under 1000 a month in the boondocks on disability with no car, and was called "crazy" and "stupid" by my relatives for investing my meager savings on these preps and converting my mower, tiller, weedeater, cookers, water heating, etc to electric....IN A HURRICANE ZONE with a yearly average of at least 15 to 20 long power outages each year with severe weather 9 months out of the year and winter storms!!! I just got 200w, 300w, and 500w personal space heaters for the next below zero storm and I`m getting a backup 12v electric blanket. These can be used to heat batteries before charging too. I used an electric blanket last December when 50 mph winds downed the power lines at ZERO DEGREES!

Great videos. Thanks. Just bought 12V LO4 Lithium for my caravan. Keen to look after it with storage at 40 to 60% approx. or 13.2 volts for now until my state of charge meter starts giving me accurate reading after a few cycles. Question. If it has 4 cells with nominal voltage of say 3.2V and fully charged voltage of 4.2Volts? per cell. Wouldn't it read way to high at 16.8 V fully charged? 4 X 4.2V = 16.8V ? What am i missing :) I have lipo batteries in my RC toys with storage of 3.8V per cell. Full at 4.2V per cell and low cut off at 3 to 3.2V per cell but new to 12V LO4. Thanks.

Welcome to the lithium market 😁 NMC 4.2 is a fully charged call. LiFePO4 3.65 is a fully charged cell. I charge my LiFePO4 to 3.55 per cell and consider that fully charged. I don't use NMC cells anymore.

@@Roll2Videos Ah, 3.65 = full. 3.65 x 4 = 14.6V Ok got it. So not the same as my RC Lipo’s at all :) Thanks for getting back to me👍

Still trying to figure out what to do with the battery power stations I keep around to cover power outages in the house. Storing them at 50% charge is kinda counter productive since I’m counting on them to keep my home going in an emergency.

so, if you can't tell the state of charge by voltage, how can you tell?

With a LI PO battery, you can use voltage. But with LifePO4, you can not. I've learned a lot since making this video. With LifePO4, you can get a battery with a BMS that has bluetooth or hook up a smart shunt battery monitor. I have videos on them. Great question 😁

Have a SOK for my RV…. Put the lights to drop the charge and will pull it and bring inside for the winter. How can you discharge the battery at home?
@Roll2Videos

You could buy a cheap inverter from Amazon. You would need to calculate how many amps are leaving once fully charged to get it to 60 ish %

What happens if they are stored over 45c like 55c for a month like a storage shed?
@Roll2Videos
@Roll2Videos Год назад
It wouldn't be the best thing for them, Make sure their not that hot when you use them. Its more damaging in cold weather due to the battery self discharging and causing damage at a low voltage.

Does it matter if you store LifePo batteries in a cold shed. Below 0°C. Looks like it’s not recommended but what happens.
@Roll2Videos
@Roll2Videos Год назад
The data sheets says down to -20°c for upto 1 month. The battery will self discharge. A lot of damage is done when they are discharge to 0%

My habit with my e scooter is to leave the battery as is after each ride. Its typically at 50-75% soc after a ride. Its never below 50%. I will then charge it the morning of my next ride. My thinking is this keeps stress off the battery between rides. I only ride it about once a week and I feel like this is better on the battery than keeping it at 100% soc all the time. Should I keep doing it this way?

I have an electric lawn mower with 4 12v 50 ah Lithium batteries in it how can I keep them protected in a unheated garage for the winter ?
@Roll2Videos

The best thing to do is remove them and bring them into the house for the winter. Have them around 60 to 90% charged

I was hoping for some way NOT to bring them in.. It will take a long time to remove the batteries .. any other options .? On really cold night would I be able to cover up the battery area with a electric blanket? hope that doesn't sound crazy
@Roll2Videos
@Roll2Videos 10 месяцев назад
@@rjazco51 You could try that. When they are cold, the battery will self-discharge. If it discharges below the safe zone, the battery will be no good anymore.

So how do you measure a lifepo4 battery at 50% charge?
@Roll2Videos
@Roll2Videos 11 месяцев назад
An easy way is if your battery is at 0%, put a charger on a timer. Let's say you have a 100Ah battery and a 10A charger, Charge for 5 hours. Works the same discharging. 100%, 25A load for 2 hours etc.

According to the recent paper "The Degradation Behavior of LiFePO4/C Batteries during LongTerm Calendar Aging", you can prolong the life of your battery by storing it at a high (near full) state of charge.

I am using a 12 volt bulb to discharge my Dakota 12 volt 54 amp battery I learned from you not to use voltage to determine 50%. So how can I tell when battery is at 50% and what other way can I discharge my lithium batteries?

You can use an inverter, if your light uses 1 Amp leave it on for 10 hours. Just try not to have it at 100%. 60-80% perfect 👌
