My top 10 Storm/Roto would be: *1) Haywire* . An absolute killer no matter whether you're bowling on a sport or house shot, the only ball I've brought to every single tournament since I got it and the first ball I drilled 2 of and both have won me titles. *2) IQ Tour Pearl* . Shot 740 with it right out of the box (At that time my PB was only 749). It's not number 1 because it's on burnt Sports shot it's king of pin 10s but all of my honor scores bar for 1 has come from this single ball. The following year, my average boosted and I held the highest league average in my country the first season I got it and it has always been my go-to ball. *3) Crux* . The way it just went through pins was completely different to anything else when it came out. I won my first ever adult title with it at 17 years old, also shot the front 7 - 10 strikes in probably at least 30% of the first 30 games I had with it, more than 5x than any other ball I had. *4) Theory* . One of my most reliable balls ever and an extreme control monster, the only balls that could compete with it for controllability for me were Urethanes and I shot my first ever 300 with this ball. Also lasted me a crazy good 7 years in lifetime. *5) Virtual Gravity Nano* . The Nano technology sold me and won 4 titles in the first year I got the ball. Kept having to detox it after a few months. *6) Invasion* . The first ball that made me fall in love with Storm/Roto. Got it when I was 11 and the ball just kept doing the work for me on heavy oil. I could miss right, miss left, not feel like I have to work the ball at all and still carry. *7) Hypercell Skid* . It had that 'WOW' factor to me immediately the first few times I saw it and watching Mike Fagan win the PBA World Championship made me fall in love with it. Still one of the most reliable balls that I have in my bag till today. *8) Hy-Road* . My benchmark ball for 4 years and the only ball I could bring to every single condition with me, be it long medium short, heavy medium or light oil. Only ball that I ever drilled 3 of but the last one has not been as successful as the first 2. *9) Victory Road* . My most Reliable breakdown ball no matter what the condition was. Lasted a good 5 years with it. *10) Fringe* . Don't know what was up about it. Drilled it Pin on PAP and just had great success with it whenever I had to bowl first arrow. *Special mention: IQ Tour Solid* . A ball that could be used on every single condition that I bowled on but also leave a crazy amount of single pins on majority of them. Reliable pocket controller but nowhere near the highest scoring.
My all time favorite Storm balls. I still use all of these. STORM BLUE THUNDER STORM BLUE THUNDER PRO STORM BOLT STORM SKY BOLT STORM BLACK THUNDER STORM THUNDER ROAD STORM THUNDER ROAD PEARL STORM METEOR STORM STORM BOLT PRO STORM ELECTRICAL STORM/STORM FIRE STORM TOUR EDITION/STORM PACIFIC STORM I LOVE THE LAST 3 EQUALLY
My top 10. 1) Sure Lock. The only ball I ever got 2 of. 2) Code Red 3) Natural Pearl. I feel it was a better Urethane than the Pitch Black or Blue. 4) Lock 5) Snap Lock 6) IQ Tour Solid 7) HyRoad 8) Match Solid 9) Torrent 10) Pitch Black
Brent Tanabe I have the code red and hyroad. I don’t know how or why but my code red sucked straight out of the box. It had no back end while my hyroad was walking all over the code red hooking more on sport patterns and house.
1. Hy-Road Pearl- been used almost constantly since 2015. 2. Mission- first 300 as a youth. 3. Lock- first 800 4. Tropical Breeze- 300 the day after I got it. Snap Lock- most 300’s on a single ball, as well as first Adult sanctioned 300. 5- Freeze- best ball I had before throwing 15 pounds.
I will never forget the Virtual Energy, Prodigy, IQ Tour and SkyRocket... :( Never got to throw a HyRoad yet. Edit: Haywire. I managed to get my hands on one after a raffle.
Luke, really enjoyed the trip down memory lane. The X Factor is definitely in my top 5. First honor score with it. For me though, IQ Gold would be my favorite of all time. Ball was just so smooth. I wanted to hate it and was pretty much forced to try at a ball demo. Proceeded to throw 19 of 21 strikes with 18 in a row. Really hard to ignore that. Rounding out my top 5 would be the Marvel S, Timeless, and the IQ Fusion.
Dont have a top 10 favorite list I own and throw so many but I do have that 1 ball I regret selling as I do most of my equipment the intense. I dunno why but for whatever reason someone came into the shop said they wanted that used balls. Paid a good price and I let it go. Maybe I'll grab another one one of these days
Figured I'd come back to this post and let you know I pulled the trigger. My intense will be on it's way to my shop tomorrow this time I'll make sure to hold on to it Haha
You're missing out lmao. Never thrown OG but I know of 5 people who still throw the OG. I bought my Nano resurfaced and detoxed for $100. Best $100 ever spent. Super predictable for Asym, and can handle all kinds of soup
Pro Motion I think, and probably going to end up being IQ Tour Nano Pearl but we'll see. Pro Motion has to be there, it's creeping up the ladder daily.
@@LukeRosdahl I figured the pro motion for sure, gonna get my first drilled next week and really excited. I love my crux prime so I have high hopes from what I hear from you and throwing something with the same cover
first storm ball for me was Phaze 1, gotten the match, alpha crux and pitch black since and never looked back at any other company. Phaze 1 also helped me break into the 250's, 260's 270's and 280's, giving me the front 10 (shoulda been front 11 but 9 pin bleh), i hope they make another pearl cover for the velocity core.
Over the years I used few different companies but always put stock in my storn gear... ebi the one Hammer black widow Brunswick monster smash r 1st reactive ball gyro pro Columbia wild Brunswick pro zone Brunswick power groove Renegade emerald
Never been a one brand guy but these days I do prefer Storm/Roto and Motiv. My top 5 Storm: 1) El Nino - first Storm ball ever bought, still have great memories 2) OG Virtual Gravity - my buddy still uses my old 15 lb one 3) Furious - some reason at the time it just matched for me so well 4) Hyroad - I only just purchased one a few months ago and it is a great house shot ball 5) VG Nano
Storm roto top ten: 10: RG hectic 9: storm fast 8: storm gravity shift 7: RG nomad solid 6: RG Saturn 5: storm hyroad 4: RG SD 73 classic 3: RG odyssey 2: RG haywire 1: storm IQ tour edition Still have a code red I need to drill, about to get another IQ TE. I think I need about 3 more IQ's, they're so damn good!!!
my top 10 is(bottom 5 is kinda not really an order) 1.invasion 2. alpha crux 3. 2nd dimension 4. Crux Pearl 5. IQ 30th 6. x factor vertigo 7. tropical heat purple/black 8. I.Q. 9. Marvel (all 3) 10. Phase II
Late to the party here, but I been rewatching a lot of your vids cuz the only thing on tv is the you-know-what virus BS... would love to see a reboot of the Trauma, Triple X Factor, and La Niña. So many great memories with each one. Lastly, one more deep cut for ya: ever throw the X Factor Ace, or Barbed Wire? So many honor scores with those 2.
LOL Perfectly describes my X-Factor. It's still in the bag with several practice 300's and 800's ,no sanctioned honors, and the ball I have absolute confidence in when everything else fails. If there was ever a ball that Storm should limited time re-release it should be the X-Factor, I would buy 5 of them.
That's what I got all excited about when they said last year they were announcing that 30th anniversary ball, I was hoping beyond all hope it would be an X-Factor!
I love my Rocket... I threw my first and only 300/800 in December of 2015 with it. I own a Victory Road (first Storm ball I ever had, shot 736 (279) with it averaged 202. Super Natural is now my left corner spare ball unless the lanes are screwy and my latest is my Torrent which I have done wonderful with it so far!! Looking at a Code X for my next.
Right now I think my favorite Storm ball would have to be the IQ Tour 30. Never got a chance to throw the original pearl before it got discontinued, but when they released the 30, I jumped on it immediately. Just a ball that I can confidently throw anywhere and on any shot and know what it's going to do. So even rolling and predicatable. Would have loved to have had a Nano, but I just got a Hy-Road Nano and I'm anticipating it to be close to that ball, maybe just slightly stronger.
Luke, I enjoyed the video. Great Job! What are the general factors that one should look for in deciding to discontinue usage or "retire" a bowling ball? How do you know when it is time?
Caribbean Obsidian When you either lose interest in throwing it or it just isn’t effective anymore. Now if you like it and it’s having some reaction problems, you can always Detox and resurface it to get it back, but at a certain point it’s been resurfaced too many times and just isn’t the same.
Never had any of the OG Ebonite greats, never had the V2 Solid or any Gamebreakers, which kudos there, but Ebonite generally has never held any appeal for me. I know they've had some legendary stuff over the years, but I've just never been interested.
you think you could do a list of your favorite bowling balls that you can still purchase today? maybe between both storm and roto grip? would help me and a lot of other people out alot that are on the lookout for a new ball to buy I'm sure.
Yeah that's not a bad idea, I might get on that . . I hesitate on it for the all time lists because I don't want to sound like I'm just trying to sell stuff, you know?
With out doing a whole lot of thinking, my top ten: 1. IQ Tour Pearl (my Bench Mark ball) 2. Intense 3. Hy-Road 4. No Rules Pearl 5. Code Black 6. Timeless 7. Dare Devil 8. Crux 9. Snap Lock 10. Phaze
I got a miss drill X factor when the pba came through Knoxville drilled for 100$ and I totally believed I was a pro bowler still do mine snapped into the pocket and was forgiving . When I threw the first ball if it came back with oil stripes then I knew I was going to throw above 250 every time. Threw it for years. Never got a 300 but a lot of 290+
I’ve only had 3 storms. I currently run an iq tour fusion and zero gravity, took a few years off because of the navy but they’re in great shape so I’m running them until I go sanctioned but my favorite was the paradigm domination. Had all my best experiences with it.
Love the video! I didn't start bowling until i was 18 back in 2000. The first reactive ball i purchased was a Storm Eraser. 18 years later and I only roll Storms!
X Factor was my 1st quality ball and my only 300 ball. It’s always what I use as my 1st choice when asked. I still have it too. Question for you...how was yours drilled back then? Did you always use it polished? What is the next closes ball to it, current or not? Thanks
Can you recommend a spare ball? Not so expensive but straight ball? I just start to bowl for real I’m bowling 190+- with a house ball. I Just purchased me a pyramid curse n I also need a spare ball to go with it. Thanks in advance~
Thanks for the redirect from earlier! My brothers and I love the Shock Trauma. The three of us recently purchased new balls (Son!Q, Timeless & Motiv Tag Cannon), but it always comes back to the Shock Trauma when the new ones won’t do what we want. Sad thing is, we only have one to share amongst us. You talked me into the Roto Grip Idol as well...thanks again!
Hi Luke! Great video! Surprised none of the current stuff got in your Top 10. Maybe a good series of Top 10s would be a Top 10 Storm balls Per Decade (90-99, 2000-2010, 2011-2017). Happy New Year!
Eh, just haven't had enough time with any of them. There are a lot I really like, they just haven't gotten into the conversation yet, and if I had a lot of new ones in there, I'd just get accused of trying to sell stuff anyway lol. Most of the new stuff I really like has been Roto Grip though actually, so if it was my all time top 10 list any company, stuff like the No Rules Pearl, Hustle Ink, and Hectic would be in the conversation. I'm betting on the Son!Q being big though.
Hey luke the IQ tour nano is also one of my favorite balls. I've been considering the hyroad nano. Same cover different core. Hyroad nano has a higher diff. What could I expect. Similar motion but just stronger overall hook? If you could compare them it would be appreciated. Thanks
Hyroad Nano isn't quite the IQ Nano, but it's not terribly far off. Doesn't hook quite as much but it's got a really similar shape and feel to it. It's really just a few feet longer and a few boards less overall.
Can’t argue much as I wasn’t around the game for most of these. Jumped back in when the VG was the shizz and the Invasion was .... Curious, as a #staffa do you feel that most or all of your daily drivers need to be currently available releases?
Richard Schott Yeah, that’s kinda the point to a certain degree. I still carry around stuff like the Hectic, but most of what I throw is new. Partly to show it off but also partly because I want to. Just like everyone else, if I get a new ball, I want to use it whether I should or not lol.
Hey Luke...enjoy your channel. In debating between the Hustle Ink and the All-out Show off what are your thoughts? Which fits best to complete the arsenal? In my bag is No Rules solid and O.G. Depth Charge in great shape.
Lol go ahead and rub that Depth Charge in haha. Hustle Ink would probably give you the best separation from what you already have. All Out may overlap with the DC a bit. I know the numbers are wildly different, but the DC is a decade plus old now . .
Luke Rosdahl Thanks for the relpy.... Yeah I just got back into the game after a 12 year break so....the DC is from back then and not a ton of games on it....
I thought the hy road pearl would be up there, but anyway keep up the good work and i've been watching for awhile now and i hope you have more favorite balls to come (:
Hyroad Pearl is good, just couldn't make the argument for it over most of those others and I couldn't have like 15 honorable mentions even though I wanted to LOL.
Pretty sure it's the heater . . the mic is really good and it picks up EVERYTHING, and I'm not good enough at editing yet to filter it out . . any tips?
very well could be the heater. i went back and listened to your last Friday Podcast and no white noise in that one. no tips, i'm not a tech wizard by any means. i just know you're all about quality so figured you'd want to know.
Not gonna lie. I didn't know 13/15 balls that you mentioned. The 2 being the marvel (which I only know from the storm website) and the hyroad as I own and throw it lol. But I had not a clue about those others, so I mean, nice top 10 👌😂
@@LukeRosdahl I've only had 2 reactive balls before my extremely long break (Storm Fringe and DV8 Marauder, both of which I still have and wish I could throw nowadays) and have just this year came back into bowling lol. But your not wrong lol.
