On the night of March 24th, 2023. The residents of Rolling Fork, Mississippi lay in their beds for the very last time. As their world is turned upside down when a powerful EF4 tornado came crashing into the city. Killing many, and injuring many more.
This video captured the whole event from start to finish through the eyes of a storm chaser as we work to pull people out of homes, and businesses that were crumbled by the destructive winds.

I’ve commented this on another video but I was there on that tornado. We were one of the first cars in Rolling Fork after it hit. I still cant get out of my head what I witnessed. I saw dead bodies, so many injuries, and destroyed homes. Like you said EMS took like an hour to arrive so me and other locals/storm chasers had to act as first responders pulling people out of debris. I've never felt so helpless in my life. I can still hear the screams of all the people buried under their house. I can also still hear the cries of people who just found out their loved ones have died. This is a night I will never forget.

I was watching the live streams of several chasers when this event went down. Every one of them stopped the chase to render aid where they could. Just like the cops in Nashville the other day, many of the chasers were true heroes. Thank you for being there. 👍👍👍

I wish I could of been there this week to love on all the chasers who had to be the hands and feet, especially before the first responders could get there. My DM’s are open. God bless you, friend.

Aaron. With regards to this documentary: Thank you for taking the extra time to carefully edit and add voiceover. This is both the best footage AND the classiest presentation I’ve seen. It couldn’t have been easy. I won’t even pretend to know what you and the other unsung heroes had to lay witness to. But, what you may or may not have thought about is this: your selfless acts of heroism, courage, compassion, and kindness will NEVER be forgotten. Y’all were right there and took immediate action into showing love, hope, and light to those you never intended to meet. We may never feel prepared to climb mountains we didn’t intend to climb. But, know this my friend: you (and your team) were chosen to be there and you were more equipped than you felt. You were there, immediately. You took appropriate action, immediately. You stepped aside when the trained professionals finally got there. Y’all stuck around in the days after to keep on keepin’ on. That’s a hero in my eyes. Y’all are the kinds of heroes I would want to be blessed by should I ever have to experience that horror. So, please know, when we Mississippians say THANK YOU & GOD BLESS YOU, please know we mean it. Thank you for being the hands and feet even though it was never apart of your plan. You guys will forever be etched in our hearts. 🙏

@Lynn C These types of comments are so insensitive. Why did God make and send the tornado to kill these people in the first place? Why do people who are saved say it was God's love and help, while other people died? Do they not realize that by default it means God didn't care and love those other people enough to save them like he did others. That's the impression you leave on the families of those killed. God loved you enough to save you, but not enough to save everyone. It's such Bs. People want to say God did this or that, with such total insensitivity. And they are too clueless to the fact that they are being so rude and insensitive every time they start preaching to people who DIDNT ASK to be preached to and who just went through serious trauma.

This tornado took me back to my younger years in the early 60s an F5 tornado went through Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls. It was during the day but the clouds were so black and so was the sky so you felt like it was midnight. It also was a large wedge tornado. My family and I lived on the base and there was so much injuries, including deaths the most thing that I remember, is the roof off of our home with a lot of damage, and it was hard to see because there was so much stuff in the air. Then I saw all the devastation. It was terrible, being a kid and witnessing this. Destruction and injury is a first thing that people notice my family, and I only had scrapes bruises and that’s about it but across the way I saw horses there was no horses around where we lived and they were standing straight up in the air. Some of the military men went over to check on them only reason why they were standing is because of branches went straight through them, holding them upright. That was the scariest thing I ever saw. Later that night, we had another tornado and F4 I don’t know how we survived that day at night. My mother drove us to an old couples home about a mile up the road off of Bass, and we got inside the cellar because we had to we didn’t really have a home to be safe in. My prayers go out to each, and every person that has ever had total devastation from a tornado. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

I live in Northwest Alabama and my neighborhood was hit by an EF-2 that spawned from this same line of storms. Luckily, it missed my home by about 3 blocks. I live in an area with plenty of trees, many of which are very large and old pine trees. There were uprooted trees and broken utility poles everywhere and were glad to see minor damage to just a few houses. One of the nights we spent in a hotel room, I met a man and his wife whom live in a neighborhood about 4 miles north of us and lost the back half of their home. They were mostly just glad to be alive! My wife and I were fortunate and had our power restored on April 1st and just had our internet restored a few hours ago today (April 4th). I've lived in this area almost my entire life (42 years old) and have experienced many tornado warnings and even a couple of small tornadoes in the distance but this was the closest I've ever come to being hit head on by one. I hope the people of Rolling Fork are able to eventually get back to normal. As someone who got just a small taste of that storm, I can honestly say that I wish to never be that close to one that powerful ever again!

I asked this very same question over on Twitter. In short, I was told the old F scale was based more off of wind speeds, whereas the newer EF scale is based off of destruction. With that being said, Rolling Fork is not a very big community. So destruction seems a bit silly if most of that area is Delta farmland. The entire town, just about, was decimated. I’m with you…it doesn’t seem “right”. Maybe they should add some categories like EFa, EFb, et. al

Excellent job , I am sure the people greatly appreciate any help you rendered after this hit their community. FYI....I just realized the drone image at the end , the culvert with water, it's the same image I seen on the news today yet it was referencing the Little Rock Tornado, from last night .

Watching this was more terrifying that any horror flick as you only get brief glimpses of the ravenous monster when the lightning flashes. Then to see the headlights in the air. JFC. Thank you for capturing this and helping those you could.

I live in Kansas (tornado alley) we have about 55 mph winds right now until tomm. Hopefully that’s it. Unfortunaly, I’ve been in my fair share of tornados. Everything from an EF1 to EF5 and it’s never something you get use too no matter how many times you’re in one. It’s starting off to be a busy tornado season and ours here doesn’t usually start till April and gets much worse in May but I am beginning to think that won’t be the case this year. I feel like Kansas and Oklahoma are going to be hit pretty hard this year and as we see, several other states are already getting it. Kind of scary to think about. It’s sad to watch this video knowing families just got off work to come home, relax and eat dinner, and like the 2yr old that died in this tornado, they were laid down to bed kissed by their parents, told goodnight not knowing what was about to creep around the corner and take their lives. My daughter was about sucked up by an EF5 with her feet in the air literally hanging onto dear life, and just when it about took her she looked up and she was right in the eye so she fell down and ran and took cover under the stairs and not even a second later the tornado swept the whole entire house off the foundation. Had she not moved under the stairs like she did, she would’ve been easily killed and thrown who knows how many yards away. It was on the news. I will not take anymore chances and I will attempt to get to my brothers underground shelter if I even THINK or HEAR there might be one in my area again. The last EF4 I was in just barely missed my house and literally demolished the neighborhood right down the road. We had a lot of damage though. I just won’t chance it. A storm shelter is one of the best investments if u don’t have one. It could be the difference between life and death for your family (and even neighbors if they don’t have one). And please, for those of you who have pets, STOP leaving them to die alone and scared in the worst way possible. My dogs will ALWAYS be with me if a tornado hits just as they have been. It makes me sick that people don’t think about their pets in a dangerous situation like this. 🙄. Anyways I pray we all make it through this and there is no more fatalities. Prepare people, PREPARE! I can’t stress that enough!

Terrifying and heartbreaking. I hope you don’t one day misjudge one of these monsters when chasing. Glad you were able to help some of these folls.

Omg wow. I saw another chaser's video and that was ominous but you had more of the lightning around it. How ominous. Wow. Horrible. Thank you for uploading.

This might be the best video I’ve seen thus far from this tragedy. I’ve not watched the whole video yet so not sure if you caught the headlights getting thrown around in there. That made my heart stop when i saw it.

The last shot is where I broke down. These people had almost no warning, and that duplex was just... gone. Just the foundation and some debris. How could you possibly survive against that...

It's a serious tragedy that there were no tornado sirens. Where I live in Ohio, the sirens go off if there is a funnel cloud spotted, or any radar indicated rotation anywhere in the county. It does lead to some people not taking the sirens seriously, but I like knowing that nothing is going to sneak up on me. If the sirens are going off, local TV is switched over to storm coverage as well.

I hate this. Rolling Fork was my home. My husband and I brought our babies home from the hospital to our home in rolling fork. We made lifelong friends and memories in that little town. To see it all gone is absolutely devastating.

Question: have the stormchaser and emergency management teams established a protocol for chasers to communicate when a PDS or Emergency category is on the ground? IMO the advice for residents changes based on that categorization. If I don't have a basement and I've event got 5 minutes, my best option is to get out of the way, not shelter in place. We know this doesn't work for large metros, see OKC a few years back. But for smaller communities, hurrying to designated shelters or simply getting out of the way seems like the better solution.
