This video will teach you the poem ‘Storm On The Island’ by Seamus Heaney. We’ll cover context and themes. More importantly, I’ll teach you how to recognise and analyse literary devices. Then, we’ll look at caesura, form and structure. To finish, I’ll mention some comparison poems.
This poem can be studied by anyone at any level but is specific to the AQA English Literature GCSE Paper 2 from the ‘Power & Conflict’ section.

This is great ....I feel like I’ve only ever skimmed over some text. For anyone studying for qualifications this input would be such a massive bonus

Exactly, it’s intended for 14-16 year olds, but it can be studied by anyone really. Thanks so much Lee. 😌

Hey Gabriella! Can you make a video on how to connect literary devices with the story? Dunno if it makes sense but for example how are you able to decide that using one syllable enforces the image of building a house?
@GabriellaTavini

Yeah, so you could say something like, “the monosyllabic words may represent the repetitive actions of building a house brick by brick.” It’s a cool idea - hope this helps.
