Storm Recovery indicates the period following a storm cycle. Though the weather conditions may be not as adverse as during the storm (sometimes it can be bluebird), extensive work is being done to lifts and trails along with avalanche control. Roads and parking lots are also being cleared so be on the lookout for heavy equipment. Depending on the strength and duration of the previous storm cycle this operations mode can be in place for 1-3 days and all lifts are subject to late openings. More exposed and isolated lifts will take longer to open than lower and less isolated lifts. Lifts originating from base areas will be addressed first. Lift work includes removing all rime ice buildup from lift drives, terminals, chairs and towers, prior to being able to test and re-calibrate the lift for proper functionality. Details are available on the conditions page.

dude its so wild to see 10 year old comments. Do you think they thought about the fact that we could be here a decade later reading what they said?

just about a daily necessity at Turoa Skifield New Zealand as the weather is straight off the sea - the De-icing crew are some of the first ones heading up in the morning. Winter storm ice frequently bought down cables off the T bar lifts, and detachable chairs are now removed prior to the storm (though we did not have such a thing in my days on the hill). Made for exciting times and stories - sure miss those days.

I haven't made it up yet this season, thanks for keeping the mountain in good condition.

IDK - clearing that ice off the mast was so satisfying - even just watching it!

Wow that's a lot of work, although it seems like life would be a lot easier for mechanics if they added chair parking for those two

Yep. I am not sure if I have ever seen a detachable chairlift without parking in western-europe. Especially leaving the chairs out in a storm like this... Not just the ice, but the wind load as well.
@phoenixbloomfield9472
@phoenixbloomfield9472 3 года назад
Yeah, a lot of areas have parking for the chairs and leave the lift running without chairs through the storm which prevents ice buildup and freezing of the sheaves and terminal equipment.

Why r there no gondolas at such a gnarly mountain?!?
@ben3359
@ben3359 Год назад
Gondolas are way more expensive and there isnt the demand for such high capacity lifts in the far reaches of the mountain

I feel like they could cover the chairs and see things with the amount of money not wasted but wasted In Labor cleaning them off.

Piss poor engineering, you would think if they designed something to be run in the winter they would design it to be impervious to the effects of inclement weather regardless of the severity; aka heated cable and towers!
@juliezaremskiy3635
@juliezaremskiy3635 5 лет назад
Do you have any idea how expensive and impractical that would be? Even with a heated cable it won't work because it will still find a way to freeze over between spans
@littlekenny8411
@littlekenny8411 5 лет назад
They did design it to be impervious. It's a detatch able quad chairlift. The chairs should be racked off every night/wind hold/blizzard - they just didn't do that. This video shows the consequences.
