What does 9 feet of storm surge look like? We show you like nobody else can. This was the forecast storm surge for the Carolina coast as Hurricane Florence was approaching. * Forecast data from Sept 12th at 5:00 PM (ET)*
Im pretty surprised that was UR 4. Although they look good, they didn't look great compared to some of the other visuals ive seen UR4 render. I guess they weren't going to toss a million dollars in rendering it, but that is def not UR 4's potential.
The storm is awful. But may I just say, this visualization was INCREDIBLE. The graphics creator or team deserves special recognition and a serious raise. I am sharing this. I think people do not understand just how deep 3ft-9ft + is and I deeply appreciate you showing this.
Wow! That's the best visual I've ever seen! I hope you are wrong, But I fear the body count is going to be high & the cleanup massive. So many are staying to protect their property. What good will all those things be if they end up dead trying to protect their stuff? PRIORITIES people PRIORITIES to stay alive should override anything else. GET OUT WHILE YOU CAN!
Agree. Unfortunately, not everyone can just afford to pick up and leave and get alternative accommodation elsewhere, leave their jobs etc. Plus I think people overestimate their ability to weather such storms.
Frank Rizzo- the public buses are taking people inland to the evac shelters 150 miles away. I'm sure if they don't have the $ for a bus ticket, no one is gonna deny them a ride to a safe place. People seem to think it's all an illusion or some kind of a government scam plan. Weather is as unpredictable as unpredictable gets!
More than one million people heeded the advise and got out early. The Govenor and his team reversed both southbound lanes of interstate 26, thus giving four lanes of highway to move people through. I 26 is the only interstate coming up from the Lowlands shore areas. Contrary to your statement, the majority of the coastlines are ghost towns. A tiny number stayed, yes, but in the double digits. I live 4 hours inland from the Charleston area. I live 5.5 hours inland from the Wilmington area. We have had close to a week to watch this storm develop. When the governor of south Carolina orders a MANDATORY evacuation 4 days ahead of anticipated landfall?....you decide: ego vs logic. Logic has won.
wynnie k- My morning news tells a different story. Seems the rescues are above the 2 digit mark. Seems so many had no funds to leave or could not due to health conditions & just not enough warning information that they could easily understand. Happy to hear so many did get out, but unhappy to hear the first responders will be working overtime on this one!
this specific 3d graphic spawned a years long weather addiction. i was actually just talking about it the other day. here it is, in my recommended. pure childhood joy right here.
Fantastic use of an AR-type visualization, really drives home the actual impact of the storm, what the rising water can really mean. I'll be watching more.
Anyone who put a thumbs down to this, must really have no clue. We endured Hurricane Harvey. We evacuated and came back to find utter devastation. Waterlines and grass lines on fences and buildings were unbelievable. They are not kidding with these graphics.
Mouth completely dropped with the visual and straight spooked me! I went looking for a visual on storm surges and this vid did just that! Great information! To those staying , please PLEASE LEAVE IF U CAN! My church familia and myself will CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR U ALL 🙏🏼 From Doris - PA
Wow....this is incredible....and perfect for people who have never experienced a potentially "catastrophic" storm event. It's pretty amazing to see some of the "comments" of people who "clearly" haven't experienced the before and after. As a Hugo survivor, my life was changed in a really short period of time. Back in 1989, 9/22 to be exact, we weren't as advanced on the potential devastation of a storm. It can be totally life changing. I had customers living on Pawley's Island who had nothing but their suitcases left. Mother Nature is not something to be reckoned with. Yeah, it might be inconvenient....but being safe rather than sorry is my motto after Hugo's wrath.
This is the best depiction of just how massive these storms can be, but yet you'll still have those individuals that say: "I'm gonna ride this out." God bless them.
Give those graphics artists a bonus check. This is hands down the best visualization I've seen to show how dangerous these surges are. Loving the sfx blips too. A great touch.
These explainers from The Weather Channel are really pushing the boundaries of live immersive broadcasting. The Future Group who create the graphics are using Mo-Sys StarTracker, a real-time camera tracking system that has made this is all possible.
Well done on that visual! It really brings home the full realization of the dangers of flash-floods and storm surges for folks who aren't intimately familiar. This is my first time seeing such visuals and I commend you on this effort. Once again, well done folks!
I hope people dont leave their dogs to die free or tied up like they did in Texas.. Cats dogs horses ect abandoned most drowned skimming for hours before being tontired and drown or swept away trapped in houses on chains etc.
I don't know about the people who already have animals, but there were several shelters arranging for families who were evacuating to foster dogs and cats while they evacuated to help get animals out side the flood and storm surge zones.
@@dianebaugher3768 I live in Texas and it was horrible there was many stories of pets that had been left chained up next. Some were rescued.. It was so sad I would never leave my babies.
Yeah, well, that's life. Hoping those things don't happen is great. But there are ways to make a change that are much more successful than just sitting behind your computer and hoping. Find organizations that help animals during natural disasters and those that expand their rescue efforts to animals and donate. Then post links to those organizations on your social media and spread the word and try to get it in front of the people who need the help - because sometimes the dogs/cats/animals are left behind because the family literally doesn't know who to turn to for help and they are in the middle of a panic situation and aren't thinking clearly. You can't change the small number of shitty people out there that do terrible things on purpose. But you can help the people who don't know what to do or how to save their pets when the choice is "do I save my kid or my pet?". It seems ridiculous, but sometimes that's the kind of choice that they think they have to make and so they leave their pet behind. It's very easy to judge these situations when you are not in them. But people are only human. All we can ask of them is to do their best and help point them towards resources that can help them do that. One such organization is the Cajun Navy. They are an ad hoc rescue group of private boat owners who tiller around flood areas saving both people and pets who didn't have the means or ability to leave the flood zones.
This is AMAZING - thank you for making such a helpful visual presentation. Anyone who hasn't seen flooding up close just can't imagine. I could show you a picture of a flood we had in my area. Street filled, water across our lawn...wouldn't mean much to anyone looking at it. But when I show you the same pic, with my husband standing in the middle of the street in chest deep water? Now that's more helpful. Seriously well done!
What an AWESOME graphic effect!!!!! - Definitely made these numbers connect more with actual visuals to give a real sense of the danger involved in these storms...STAY SAFE NC & SC!!
Currently on the menu we have catastrophic flooding, volcanic eruptions, magnitude 6.0+ earthquakes and huge wildfires. I don't know about you but I'll take an order of volcanic eruptions with a side of landslides. Lol
I think they are lying about the rainfall in are going to say that it was the rainfall that flooded everybody else when they are going to break a damn or something
I don't think y'all realize there's Military bases all over NC and where going to hit why would they risk equipment for "personal gain" yea lets harm the marine corps and such so we can weaken our national defense and lose money in the process
Kudos to the Graphic/Animation Designer of this clip, some people, don't really understand what 6ft or 9ft storm surge really means,... This should be the default information video format for all storms in the future.
I dont know whose vision was this and who put it together but brilliant and very informative usage of tech. I really would love to see more. Awesome work, thank you.
what an amazing animation........ this is what people need to see before the floods come......... well Done I.T crew. Give the animator a raise indeed.
