On the night of September 20, 2024, the city of Piracicaba, in São Paulo state, Brazil, was caught off guard by a storm that unleashed wind gusts of up to 83.1 km/h, according to the Brazilian National Institute of Meteorology (INMET). The storm kicked off around 7:30 PM, surpassing the windstorm from August 24, which had recorded gusts of 72.7 km/h.
Along with the strong winds, the storm brought heavy rainfall. The São Paulo Flood Alert System (Saisp) reported 10.8 mm of rain in just two hours, with 9.5 mm falling in the first hour alone. It also marked the first thunder since March 8. This event signaled the start of the 2024/25 storm season. Damage included fallen branches and a brief power outage at the storm's onset.
