I am absolutely astonished by the sincerity and the pure passion behind your words and love for the RTS genre. I am beyond excited and grateful about everything you guys said and I cannot wait!!!
It’s so amazing to see how well received this whole project is! Theres so much inspiring passion and love behind Stormgate. I am appreciative that these guys aren’t worried about nerding out, and being themselves. I see Frost Giant become a very well rounded studio, and I believe in their games. Keep on stomping forward, you guys. Everyone is rooting for you!
I like how you guys want to keep the core audience and bring in newbie players too! My brother and friend loved the coop stuff, but never really liked PVP, but I liked PVP, so I couldn't keep them in starcraft 2 for very long
having a storng esports scene has always made me better at any game and RTS is no exception to this. I'm very looking forward to gameplay to see how all of this translates into physical, playable form! it's been ages since I've been hyped for an RTS
As someone who loves watching RTS Esport, im super happy to have hopefully a new game to watch and a new story line to enjoy. Also excited for a new era of players, casters ect. Keep up the good work guys :) .
Very excited for this one. The RTS community really thirsts for a new game that matches the quality of old Blizzard titles. If anyone can do it, it's you guys 👍
I'm having a lot of hope for Stormgate as WC3 is my favourite game of all time. Good luck to you but I know you have a lot of talented and passionate people in the team so I'm sure you will deliver awesome product :) all the best for you guys!
A great player-first approach. I gotta say though, I am not expecting social experience from my RTS. I am looking forward to the campaign, story, achievements, side quests. It is a deeply personal experience first, maybe some social element as a secondary element.
Can't wait for it! Hopefully the controls are simplified as that has always been the biggest barrier with RTS games for newcomers. (Friction mentioned in the video). We want the game to have as many players as possible. I'm happy to see that's the goal! Games shouldn't last so long either. 22-30 minutes would be the sweet spot. 45min-1 hour is just too tedious to play AND watch (esports). Longer games also indirectly increase the difficulty barrier of the game. In regards to free to play, as long as the purchased items are purely cosmetic, you will do well. (Look to Valorant as an example)
I am very interested in the game and the ugc part. I also signed up for the beta. I would be happy if we got a discord server to discuss, be informed about news and to be able to give feedback and ideas.
Extremely unfortunate that there are no NFTs. Players being able to truly own their progress is the future of gaming. It sucks that people conflate the core technology of trustless digital ownership with some of the overpriced scammy bs that is prevelent right now.
Great to see even more behind the curtain on the Stormgate Dev - I'm so excited to see such a team of RTS experts working with such a clear focus on the most important parts of making the next GREAT RTS! The beta can't come soon enough :D
I just hope they don't make the same mistake Sc2 did with Unit Design. Ignoring the 2 biggest factors. 1. Does it look cool ? 2. Is it fun to use? Most B.W. units pass this test. Most Sc2 units fail
@@catra195 SC2 units are very fun to use in the hand of pro-players. Unfortunately the entry skill level for it is too high, couple with the game insane speed making it very hard to play for casual players. I think if SC2 can just drop its speed down by 20-30% while starting with the traditional 6/8 workers, it could make the game more fun to general fanbase.
@@tigera6 I would say the exact opposite. Where is the fun or high skill ceiling with units like corrupters or roaches or collossus or immortals . Plus with the F2 button there's alot of A- move. Remember I'm comparing to Brood War
This is not a company promoting a product but developers sharing their passion. I love it! Hopefully we will get more videos like these, when the first gameplay can be shown.
It's a company promoting a product by presenting itself as developers sharing their passion. I'm excited for the game too but acting like this isnt a 25 minute long ad is very silly.
Free 2 Play is not a sustainable model. You always end up with a micro transaction store or a sub par quality game. Every game that has ever went F2P has literally paid the price down the line at some point. Developers don't work for free, people should stop being cheap and just save money instead of buying a pack of smoke or their monthly starbucks coffee. I had no problems to say take my money! Now, I have no problems in saying Unsubscribed.
@@Supremax67 ' free to play ' means they have to make their money on peripherals, no one expects anyone to work for nothing, the f2p model has obviously worked in many cases and pretending otherwise is just ridiculous
@@FrostGiantStudios Comments like this is what gives me so much hope for this game. So nice to see and dev company making a game for the fans and passionate about the content instead of the money. You guys are awesome, thanks Frost Giant team!
As Activision falls, a Frost Giant rises from the Blizzard. But seriously I really hope this game feels like starcraft 1 or warcraft 3. I miss when RTS were about having fun; whether making maps, playing the story or being competitive on a ranking leaderboard or just playing silly war 3 maps online ^^
@@Stan_S_Stanman Aoe 2 was good but the newest game isnt exactly ground-breaking. The best RTS games were SC1 & 2, and Warcraft 2. Warcraft 3 was ok but the heroes ruined it. We need pure rts games not mobas
@@Stan_S_Stanman AoE 2 did not reach height like SC/SC2 but it has lived for a LONG time simply because Microsoft want to. They are willing to spend extra resource on constant balance updates, new civs/units and put up prize money for competition. While the profit from doing all those are marginal but its important to keep it alive. Meanwhile ActivBlizz treat their franchise like milk cow, they want to grab as much money as they can and the move to the other games which bring alot more profit, while calling these games as "Classic" and push them aside.
Idea for 3v3: If a player is eliminated, let them stay in the game and allow team mates to gift up to 10-20 units to control. That way you’re not waiting for your friends to finish a game, and newbies can carry on learning.
FG have actually raised this issue before, so they are aware of it and if they haven't found a good solution yet, they are actively searching for it :)
I can't remember the last time I watched an interview for a game & gaming company and felt high hopes. FGS is looking good right now. Thanks for keeping RTS alive!
Hell, it's about time! While I am cautiously optimistic (because the RTS community has been burned before, and I'd like to see more in-game stuff), I still can't help but feel that y'all are on the right track. RTS has been my absolute favorite game-genre since I started gaming (with Starcraft 2 being my favorite game of all time -- still playing it to this day!) I am eagerly counting down the days until the the Stormgate open beta starts (along with trying to max out my luck to get invited to said beta!)
This will eventually be amazing, however, we all need to remember that when SC2 first came out it was.... awkward; to make Stormgate the BEST RTS it will take a few years of regular tweaks and updates and patches -- the first final version won't be amazing, but I'm sure it will have the best of the groundwork to bring out an ultimate RTS Experience. fingers crossed.
When I tell my friends, or mention in twitch chats about this Stormgate , many mention or tell me not to hype up something that isnt out. I would argue that , interviews like this is what gives me hope for a new RTS, and something to be excited about beyond Starcraft 2. ANDDDDDD, given its Free to play I dont have to worry about the Pre-order dilemma! You can just wishlist it on stream , for free, and see how it is
As a mapmaker and terrainer, I hope that the game will have realistic doodads, terrain textures, etc. and not only the art style shown in the early pics. I would love to be able to recreate a real life city, an appartment interior, an industry site, etc. Looking forward to the game reveal. GL HF
User generated content is great for games stability, plus allows great creative content to come out, hope the 'editor' gets very polished and easy to use but allows for very complex stuff, and also optimized
@@matthewheadland7307 -- Because you can't balance free 2 play, budgeting and still have a great game. Games cost a huge amount of money to make and if 99% of players are freeloaders, the quality will suffer somewhere else.
@@Supremax67 Hmm, I'm not familiar with how monetizing actually works, but there are a lot of games that are successful and free to play. I suppose you're not a fan of any of those. There are also a lot of games that aren't free to play and are horrible. So we can get our tastes straight, what would you consider a great game that was not free to play, and what would you consider a bad game that was free to play? Also, I assume you're a fan of Starcraft?
@@matthewheadland7307 -- The consumer definition of successful is not the same as the publisher's definition of successful. Let me know when you have your own studio and let me know how your revenues go for you when people no longer want to pay for cosmetics attire. As for Blizzard, they have been on my boycott list for over 3 years. But nice try in fishing and dodging the conversation. My argument, I will never win because 99% of gamers are free loaders when given the chance. You are not the type to keep a project afloat so you have no idea what you are talking about. Running a studio and developing a game is very expensive.
Blizzard has transformed into a soulless generic company driven by business and stock market guys. They now care more about profit margins, loot boxes and chinese mobile gamers than their once loyal fans. I feel the vibes of the good old blizzard in Frost Giant. I really hope Stormgate is gonna be great! Would love to support them longterm and see a new RTS game rising
As a life long StarCraft fan, I'm really rooting for you guys. Build something great for the community! I'm really looking forward to the beta and eventual release.
"we've got climate change and overpopulation" please avoid modern politics. In game world politics are totally cool, but I dont want more modern political landscape in entertainment. super excited for the game, cant wait to see what yall come up with
I love you guys, take your time and present a full universe to fall in love with again! You made me an rts fan and player since i was a child, i admire your passion and morale keep it up!
As long as the devs don't turn into pink unicorns, and keep some of that sound old-school mechanical design alive, a lot of it being sorely missing in newer games these days. I personally think onboarding can be viewed as somewhat of a misnomer, if you onboard for newer players you'll inevitably be sacrificing a bit of the mechanically challenging aspect of the game in one sense or another. As long as the design is done well, and with precision, everything else matters less, including balance because you'd have something that doesn't sacrifice anything and will appeal to the players simply on the merit of being a game that's designed well. That being said I have a certain measure of "faith" in these people because, not by any means less, they have a Blizzard background.
They've previously expressed that they're trying to shift the apm from tedius maintenance work to more interesting things like army control by automation. If they do it well, I think it's the right way to go and who better to take a swing at it than this team!
I'm hopeful, but not overly optimistic, it's hard to see how this will surpass the absolutely insane AAA-AAA production value of Starcraft 2. And I'm not sure I'll take to the universe, like I did with Starcraft 20+ years ago, it has to be really good. And I hope it won't be hero-focused. I have never been into Warcraft 3 or DOTA or LoL or HoTS, I played C&C, and Warcraft 2, Broodwar and SC2, I can't be the only diehard RTS fan out there.
Okay, okay. I’ll eat my crow now. I’m sold on the idea of infernal hosts being entities that were misidentified in our ancient past. That tiny bit or storytelling will be the bridge needed to link sci-fi and fantasy. 11/10 detail. I’m happy to hear so much thought going into setting. I can’t wait to meet the 3rd faction. I’m still hopelessly hoping that the Infernal Hosts aren’t the “Zerg equivalent.” I think they’re better suited for a “Protoss equivalent.” I’ve been writing my own IP for an RTS for about 2 years and there are lots of similarities here. Bummed that I’m getting beat to the punch, but it does show that the concepts are sound and a large portion of the community are on similar wavelengths. I’m still repeatedly going to apply for positions until the denials at least come from a human. If I can’t make my own game, I want to contribute to this one. 🖤🖤🖤
I'm very relieved to hear you're putting proper care into the setting and the story. The worldbuilding of the original Starcraft is very memorable and dear to me even to this day, whereas SC2's writing felt childish by comparison. Like how Mengsk in SC1 was a ruthless, intelligent man with an unquenchable thirst for power... and then Mengsk in SC2 is an incompetent buffoon, a parody of himself. The best heroes also have flaws, which is what makes them human; the best villains also have virtues, which is what makes them formidable and dangerous.
I've played all the classic RTS games from blizzard since WC to WC FT and SC Broodwar to SC 2, but this game has definitely got me the most hype I've ever felt. I'm so eager to play an RTS thats fresh and new. This is definitely the most anticipated game for me even above Diablo 4 and i love the diablo series! Please take yall time to make this game a masterpiece. So many games come out unfinished with bugs, server fails, etc on launch these days, I'd rather wait to get the full experience of a finished product. Thank you
First two things first, first, I liked the hammer striking on the ground & printing the company logo, this isn't to say this is inferior or even less stylish I just loved the hammer one!. Second, I still loath the free model you are adopting, this model is basically more expensive than premium priced game irrespective of how much that premium price is, also being premium game or rather being a free game doesn't allow for any "addition/additional" monetization scheme that premium game wouldn't allow, please, please, please! reconsider this decision. Really loved this update, lengthy enough & cool without spoiling info that shouldn't surface at this time.
I play a lot of WC3 & SC2 with 3 other friends and we've been looking for a new game (hopefully RTS) to get into, shame 4 player isn't being supported in any way.
Good thing they are limiting themselves. I guess you'll have to rebalance the game for 4-players yourself using the editor or wait for the community to do it for you.
I totally believe in the Stormgate Team - people who have dogs in their offices are good people after all :) I have discovered a lot of my friends in life via Starcraft and bonded with so many people talking and playing that game. And now I wish there was a new game for a new generation of players, so they can have the same awesome time as I had back in the day. Make some new friends, having fun. So pleeeaase take your time and deliver not only a product but a GAME that YOU would love to play.
Will the graphics be Gore or can we make them Gore in the options? Killing demons without splash of bloods and decapitated meat corpses is very unappealing
if anyone is looking for a "co op campaign" RTS in the interim before stormgate's release, iron harvest has co op campaign (up to 3 players i believe) and it's quite fun. it's on xbox gamepass too.
I know that a lot of new players on STARCRAFT 2 have left just because there is no "built in" build orders tutorial and of course the evolution of those BO with the evolution of the game/rules
every update thats another paragraphs of talking about creamgasm optimal game design philosophy without revealing any content I kick a tree. give me smth or I'm billing yall my medical bills
Beyond excited for this. So happy that there will be a chance for my teenage son and I to find a new game with some common ground. I’m not very good at his FPS games, so hopefully this will allow me to play alongside instead of in the background. I’ve been with RTS since the very beginning of StarCraft. Not to mention I cannot wait for E-Sports side.
Loving the ctrl groups ideas. My partner grew up with brood war and has been showing me SC tournament games and I'm getting very interested, but as a new player trying to play with the genre, something so simple as ctrl grouping, is very difficult for me, which really makes the rest of the game so much harder and shifts my focus in game, making everything more stressful. The ability to automate things like this for the new player, allowing them to grow into the game with enjoyment before skill is definitely the way to go and gets me very excited to play. Thanks for this video!
The eSports segment didn't make a lot of sense to me. Sure, the idea of participating in a tournament with other players of similar skill levels sounds great, but how do you prevent elite players from smurfing, jumping into an amateur tournament, and slaughtering everyone?
