We have a look at the world of stormworks. As a scrap mechanic player I already knew a lot of the mechanics of this game but I also had to learn so much more... Join the discord: / discord
As a player with over 1,000 hours in this game, I can most definitely say that it’s my favorite. If you keep playing, you will definitely realize that you really can build almost anything. Great review, keep up your channel!
New viewer here, awesome review on stormworks and covered about half of it... More than most reviews I've seen. Love the channel after this vid and am looking forward to watching more!
This is a very well crafted video, if you continue to make videos of with this level of polish I bet you would find great success. You have earned my subscription!
Thank you so much Oshel. I am also pretty happy with the overall quality. What really drags me down is the lack of professional equipment though... recording and audio quality are not where I want them to be... maybe someone gives me a lot of money, so I can buy a new PC... until then :D
Awesome video! I have 1000 hours in this game and feel I have a pretty good grasp on it now. After you have learned the basics, everything else comes naturally.
@@oggi42gaming77 to get your pivots and hinges to be able to take more load, the subgrid needs to weigh more, just replace some blocks with weight blocks and itll work better… Theres also XML editing them to be stronger…
I have 738 hours in Scrap Mechanic, after getting to 160 hours in StormWorks I know just how big the difference is. Whenever I go to build an idea I go to stormworks first- unless I want a model machine, then I use scrap Mechanic- I found stormworks a few years ago- like 5- and wanted it as you can press buttons while in a seat- something you can not do in Scrap Mechanic When I first started playing I just wanted to play with stuff off the workshop but after playing more and getting into building I love to build in the game. My first decent creation was a plane I modeled off a real one, and besides the fact that its a little too scaled down, I love it and I am proud. Since then I have built a good boat, submarine, and bus. I love the new items they add such as the steam and modular engines. the fact that you can choose what size engine you want and where you want parts of it has become my new favorite part of the game! overall its an amazing game if you get to know it and spend some time in it to lean the building skills.
I’ve played 600+ hours in stormworks and I’m stilling learning more about the game. Its a massive game with almost no limits! I recommend tinkering around with everything you can think about the eventually learn how to do everything. It will let you build nicer, more efficient vehicles, aircraft and more, better!
You could check out Starship Evo, it's another complex building game that is amazing, and you can build nearly anything you can think of! There's several useful blocks (not only aesthetics) and most of them can be resized to work in a space cruizer, a small ship, a hoverboat, car, bike, weapon, etc....
With over 200 hundred hours in this game I still dont know how to build anything, which is the fun part about stormworks, it not only about building stuff. If you want to have multi tank or battle ship battle with your friends, you can do that. Want to run a passenger vessel then your friend hits you with a torpedo and you go into the watery depths, you can do that. You want to hit a target a couple miles away with artillery? You can do that!
You've just gotten me to purchase stormworks as someone whos played scrap mechanic I've always had a desire for more especially on the mechanical side after playing with logic and I feel like stormworks will be less of a game and almost be like a CAD. I really look forward to you're videos on the the game.
I wouldn't really compare them as from the depths is heavilly focused on combat. Not really a fan of that (personal preference of course) I like stormworks more :)
the helicopter looked like it was transfering the rotational potential energy from the props into the rotation, i think helicopters will run thrust in their rear propeller to account for this or use coaxial rotors to counteract it.
I've been playing stormworks for about 2 years now and still can't build a proper airplane. I have been able to get some off the ground but they pale in comparison to the stuff on the workshop.
Yeh I came from playing dayz and the bugs in stormworks compared that are minimal My new favourite adventure game right here This game is for people who like to suffer haha
Talking about suffering: On my first trips with the oil tanker I alway forgot something vital to get the job done but I only realized this after I sailed across half of the map -.- This happened to me like 3 times in a row
@@oggi42gaming77 not as bad as me... I was casualy filling up at a rig which took me ages to get to without autopilot and a ai helicopter decides to fire rockets at me while I could do absolutely nothing Rage quit ensued...
Can anyone tell me how the multiplayer works in this game? Can you do it all with a friend? Can you make stuff solo then use it in a mission together online.? So you import your boat and your friend import his helicopter and attach them? I understand it's hard, but just wanted to know if these things are possible
if you want to do it with a friend you select the "multiplayer" button (wow) and go to host (you do need a good pc though) set the max players and optional passcode and pick a save or start a new one. you or any one else in the server can spawn in the vehicles that you have got from the workshop or created like a single player world.
I am trying to release roughly one video a week... can't do it more regular at the moment unfortunately... Concerning discord: I am having some weird errors with it right now... not sure what is going on there but I'm on it. I will link the discord channel in the video-descriptions once it's online
as someone that played stormworks and tried making a battle ship quick tip upload it to the workshop by the end of every fucking day bc you never know if youl need to factory restart and the thing thats so fucking anoyying is that your build dont fucking save from 1 account to another so i wasted 3 weeks of my fucking life im sooo fucking happy
Hey tobydenton, thank you so much for the compliment. I can't promise anything right now, because my gaming pc is broken. But you should have a look at our discord chanel if you are looking for people to play with
That is a very nice comment :) But to be fair: I played almost every engineering game there is and had some very clear goals in mind for my videos, so that helped a lot I guess ;) So please don't get demotivated!
One of the things one will learn about Stormworks real fast is that it will punish you for the smallest mistakes. Sometimes it only takes a matter of seconds and your creation is heading to the ocean floor in a ball of flames.
I might be wrong, but the quad copter should have alternating rotation, because the stabilizer in the back is not strong enough to counter the movement
10:38 "days or weeks" yea try months for some large complex boats lol. For me I got into stormworks because I saw videos about cool workshop creation (specificlly LORGS obscure rey) and wanted to play with them, eventually I got to building my own stuff starting from copying youtubers like Frantic, and gradually got to where I am. right now i've got 5300 hours in the game over 4ish years. I remember watching old NJ videos about how to set up the preset (and at the time only) engines.
I’m someone who came into stormworks from besiege (a game that has the same weight distribution mechanics but has much simpler forms of power) and was also overwhelmed, but my brain obsesses over this sort of thing so I was able to figure most stuff out fairly quick.
I've got just about 600 hours in this game and I've only managed to make 4 vehicles so far and 1 even made it to the top of the workshop, it is absolutely hard, it definitely will test your patience but god damnit when you build something that works it's a great feeling, you're absolutely right about stormworks and I can't wait to see some stormworks content soon
Thanks a lot for the comment. You know what? You are right! I didn't have much time to make new videos lately and I am also kind of on the road that also makes it difficult... but maybe I should really make a few small videos about my beginner creations :) THanks for the motivation
I myself found logic to be very intuitive and organized compared to other games (if you are used to logic in general that is..) But yes: I find myself spending most time on tinkering with the right logic settings... but in the end it's so rewarding :)
Love this video! Stormworks is my favorite game at the moment, i have even got to the point where i feel like i can recreate anything I walk by. Accept annything that has anything to do with costum lua screens. Love the channel, keep up the good work man!
Thank you so much! I am so sorry to keep you all waiting for new stormworks content... I am actually busy with some real life engineering work... but autumn is coming and I am sure there will also be new videos by then :)
Great video and review of the game! I'm still relatively new to stormworks with only around 400 hours. One way of getting a crane to work on boats is with ballasts, either via fillable water tanks or a large shifting weight in the hull of the ship that can shift to one side and act as a counterweight. Also just wait till you see how often they are adding updates and new parts to the game.
@@oggi42gaming77 An ideapad? I have a brand new Lennovo laptop with an i5 and 8 cores plus 1 Terabyte of storage but it still doesn’t launch. Am I doing something wrong then?
10:52 with 3600+ hour i will say this .. do not star playing storm works .. it has no end and cannot bewon .. and much like animal crossing your courpse will probably be four a month from now infrount of you pc after you died from forgetting it eat or drink because you just had to paint that one last square first ...
Thanks for the feedback. I would love to do so :( Unfortunately studying drains all my money right now... that's part of the reason why you are not seeing new videos at the moment
Instead of dowloading an autopilot, if you try to make one yourself you will feel really accomplished and happy. Though it takes some thinking and effort to make one that works perfectly.
After playing the game for 600 hours I decided to build a very large battleship. I’m now at 800 hours and it looks done from the outside (from a distance) but completely empty on the inside. I made it steam powered, which may have been a mistake, but after figuring out nearly every tweak to produce more power and keep it from blowing up it felt quite rewarding. So much so it’s my first upload to the workshop, “most powerful steam engine”. Fun game for sure.
Sounds amazing! I sometimes dream of building a large historical steam-ship that can only be operated with a large crew in multiplayer :D "We need more steam!"
You are probably right :) But hearing about modular engines when you barely managed to get your first simple engine running was really overwhelming to me, haha
you are just like me, i am aspace engineer and was looking for a way to make an autonomous vehicle when a video about stormworks ship poped up and then it began
Nice video my friend i am planning to buy this game and you really helped me.I am amazed by the complexity of this game.I could say this game is a harder version of scrap mechanic
It definitely is a harder version of Scrap mechanic. Although Scrap mechanic is a lot more friendly to beginners, stormworks gives you way more freedom in the long run
new veiwer and new subscriber i cant beleive how high quality your videos are for not have thousands of subs. Amazing video man. Keep up the amazing work!
Thank you so much Jonas! So good to hear that the hours of editing payed off ;) My next video will probably be about stormworks, but it will also take a lot of time to edit... hope I can release it soon :)
1037 hours for me, I love stormworks. I love the realism of building! I always build boats and planes ranging from 13m of length up to 70m of length! Pushing my modular engines to the limits, nearly exploding them in order to get to a vessel on fire
Nice video - definitely going to try this one as an engineering toy if nothing else. Try reversing two of the rotors on your quadcopter so you have an alternating pattern - this should cancel the reactive yaw torque and eliminate the need for a tail rotor. You'll need both left-handed and right-handed props accordingly :)
I love the complexity and visual fidelity that things like besiege don't give me. I can make solid objects with no holes and any aesthetic I want. Also, the blocks have the density of a foamboard box of packing peanuts
Well actually I am not sure if the block density is unrealistic or not... one day I had a look at the drawings of an existing oil tanker and tried to recreate part of it in stormworks... I was only able to fill the tanks around 1/3 before the ship sank... I am not sure if it's the buoyancy of the blocks or the density of the oil but something is off
@@oggi42gaming77 yeah it is a bit weird like that, a cubic meter of air should be able to hold about a metric ton of water above it before sinking, but it only holds at most 1/3 of that.
Stormworks took my life, I can totally agree. When I started Stormworks I already got 80+ hours in the first 2 weeks! And I still can't make trains, helicopters, and microcontrollers.
Hey Tidus! Maybe I will come back to your offer once I have time to play again :D Right now I need to do some real engineering, which is very cool, but sadly leaves me without much time to play video games :/
Holy...I need a breather after that one. This is one of those games that is the size of a puddle but deep as an ocean. On the surface it looks simple, maybe even childish, but DAMN that depth in the mechanics and such. Part of me wants to get the game, the other part of me is afraid I'll never have the time to figure out how to actually play it...
can we start having more respect for outselves pls we dont need to love every indie game that comes out. OH it looks like a barebones pos? lets upvote it cus it only has a few devs . NO stop doing this
Well... I have to agree that I might be a little overpositive in this video, but it's a first impressions video, not a full review. I can see where your frustration comes from. In general I also think that we should be a lot more sceptic about unfinished games and early acces titles. I had my rough share of disapointing games in the past, but stormworks isn't one of them. I think this title knows what it is and I don't feel the need to take anything back I said in this video :)
Ive only recently started playing stormworks. I cane from a ksp and dpace engineers background and its honestly blown me away. Ive been downloading and modifying creations from the workshop to learn the mechanics and im hooked. The rescue missions are really whree it shines for me. Theres just something special about being in rough seas in the middle of the night with my ship responding to an emergency transponder then finding the ship only to realise 4-5 of the crew are missing and having to turn on my spotlights and shooting up flares to try and spot the survivors in the rough waves while also applying first aid, fighting the fire onboard the distressed boat and trying to keep my ship steady and avoid capsizing all at the same time while my friend flies overhead in a helicopter with spotlights trying to locate the remaining survivors. And just when you think youre getting somewhere a tsunami hits in the middle of the rescue and having to be rescued myself by my friend lowering down a rescue winch from the helicopter so i can load passengers while simultaneously fighting fires now on my ship as it sinks before jumping in the harness myself to be lifted to safety. The game is unforgiving in every regard but also extremely rewarding when you finally see that "mission completed" message pop up
I already did some ingame programming in Space Engineers and Stationeers. It's one of those things you don't wanna play without once you figured them out :)
