Yeah, taylor's writing is what got her fame. Singing, not as much. While she can sing well, her voice isn't very powerful. There's still Beyonce, Shakira, Jennifer Lopez etc etc. But I admire Taylor's full knowledge that she can write well and doesn't try to be something she's not.
That's not a 'crazy level of creativity and talent'. That's simply creativity and talent. That's how the creative process works. One's monetary success comes from connectedness of your audience to the end result of that process. Hozier writes and sings better by accident than Taylor Swift could ever hope to on purpose. He doesn't connect with as many people as she does, consequently he's not a household name and probably never will be. That, however doesn't diminish the quality of his wotk. By the same token the 1/2 bil net worth and nation of Swifties doesn't raise the quality of hers.
Dont get me wrong, I love taylor swift. But this isnt a crazy level of creativity or anything. Most artists have stories behind their songs. Eminem, juiceworld, billie eilish, post malone, just to name a few.

I don't think people understand how a writers brain works. Stories made through song or something through literature aren't usually inspired by some super specific situation, or if it does, it doesn't have to involve them personally. It's then written in a way to resonate with the audience. Not everything they make is super personal and psychologically analytical to their lives or relationships.

Ok this is like bare minimum for people who make singing their career though. Being able to sing a line or two IN TUNE, without filters or autotune? Should be a given. Heck, the average person could sing that line no problem. The real test is whether you can do the same during a concert for like 3 hours..
True it's a sign of a supportive friend than anything, its just the whole song was a bit y'know- but its understandable considering those times, honestly girls who don't prefer to carry themselves in a feminine manner are cool but the type who tries to put the other girls down for embracing their femininity is pretty annoying, it's like everyone is a different individuals with unique and lovable characteristics, we are already different than each other.

I don't listen to much of her music but I think she is so talented and a very good person and very intelligent. I don't understand why so many people cut her down.

This is pretty much how I felt. I really like her last 2 albums but before that I wasn't really into it. But to say she doesn't have talent... Do these people even know what talent is? I don't like classical music but I can admit Mozart was crazy talented. I don't like country but Carrie Underwood is a powerhouse. But Taylor sings pop, so people feel the need to diminish her success. It's crazy. It always happens when a female pop artist is super successful. ALWAYS.

There's a lot more in between the lines emotions and experiences involved in every relationship and more than what meets the eye. Sometimes the other partner themselves don't realise it so I don't expect much from best friends.

Totally fine. But I have always found the actual song to be quite "pick-me" and "not like other girls". Especially the parts about high heels, mini skirts, makeup, you know the drill. You can totally point out toxic relationships, but making other girls look worse bc they like doing girly things does not sit right wirh me. I still love Taylor. The song as a whole yes, but like just this back story of the song, it's not.. She's simply explaining inspiration from her real life.. And the song as a whole is likely a mixture of her experience with her guy friend, her crush, with her own imagination & creativity.. There is nothing wrong with this video itself
Idk, I'm a girly girl and I've always interpreted the song as playing on those teen romcom stereotypes - "I'm the nerd who's unpopular who doesn't dress up or stand out, and she's the popular fashionable cheerleader". The lyrics doesn't put the other girl down for being feminine at all.
It feels like country music, especially then, used to pit women against each other when it came to a guy. I like how vocal Taylor has been when admitting that she's had to learn to stop scapegoating other women for a man's bad behavior. This song isn't really a good example, but just in general. Like Better than Revenge.

The pick me thing can go out of hand when its about good people/teenagers who may be jealous, have a crush, and know that the person they ljke is dating someone that isn't kind at all. How you go about treating that friend and how you act in resposne to your feelings can make it "pick me", but not those feelings in and of themself, because feeling jealous, thinking you would be a better partner, etc-- are all normal human emotions that many feel. Taylor does a great job and writing things that can be relatable to many ppl, and be inpsired by the "what if?" That is all arpund us. some of these things she doesnt experience herself, and many artists do this (i do this as a writer/poet). She may not have had an actual crush on her friend, but to be inspired by the conversation is very creative. (If she did, thats fine too).
