Life was good. I was 66 and happily married, with a daughter and a granddaughter. I was a financial professional and I liked my job. Then one day, quite unexpectedly, I was 'downsized'.
"Don't take it personally -- it's just business," they said. But retirement is a big decision I wasn't prepared for so I took the life-changing verdict badly.

Some of my friends who are retired have depression, I hope this helps me encourage them. Thanks.

My whole life was structured from kindergarten through college through 44 years of full time work. When I retired, I did not miss getting up very early in the morning, commutting to and from work. I missed the structure and camaraderie of work. I have close friends that are in touch by phone almost everyday. I have close family that lives down the road from me. I live in a community. But I simply cannot get into a routine whether it be excessive or choirs around the house. Many of my friends who have been retired for a few years tell me it takes time. 10 months of retirement and I am still stuck in the mud. Next step will be an MD

Im sorry everyone,.. im not handling this. My coworkers made a big thing about early retirement for us og's. They somehow convinced me to join them. Two weeks later, im panicking , stressing to get BACK! But policy said no. I went into a breakdown,.. my stress was extreme, and the anxiety!, then insomnia,.. then depression. I suffer 24/7.. ruminating on how foolish i was,..etc. This is too much pain... and to experience mental and physical health decline! Ive talked already to psychologist, therapist, Pastors, 988, VA... etc. Im all alone,.. my job was my source of everything. ... structure, purpose, identity, social interactions, friendships, coworkers, self esteem etc ... .. i don't know ⛓️

You have a family! Enjoy every moment with your wife and family. Millions of us have no one who cares about us or will let us care for them.

This Covid sure has thrown a lot of people in to depression. All the things you planned to do just got thrown to the curb.
