It was never clear what turned Kharne. He was the voice of reason even after he foolishly accepted the Nails, and then he woke up after a coma and was all-in for Khorne. No character development in between. No dreams in which he is enticed by Khorne or one of his daemons.

What ill never understand about the nails is if they are so complex they are still capable of being mass produced which means the technology is available to reverse engineer them. Unless the issue is, as it seems to be, the neurones of the brain are meld welded to the device meaning that the longer these devices are in the brain the more enmeshed they are making it impossible to remove.
Not sure where, short story or codex lore maybe, Kharn was assaulting a position, fellow buddy was brought low but not taken out. He decapitated him and punted his head over/through the air so he could witness battle one last time.
IIRC, it was in a short story, one of kharnes Battle Brothers is injured and about to die due to his wounds, so in one last act of bloodshed he decapitates himself to please Khorne
