With all my dignity and respect I can say that I really appreciate that a foreign RU-vidr made a video regarding Mihai Viteazul, a brave leader of Wallachia that had the opportunity to unite all Romanian principalities under one country. Desperate times needed desperate measures so he had to tax his people in order to fight for Wallachian independence and defeat the Ottomans. With my hand on my heart, I can say that I am proud to be called "Novac" just like the most loyal general of Mihai that was very competent and organized!

I'm a Wallach from Serbia, very near to Donji Milanovac, the place of birth of Starina Novak. We have had many warriors (hajduks) who fought the Turks for hundreds of Years, and separated from Romania we still call ourselves Wallachians, have our own culture and our own language.

I've always wondered what would have happened if Mihail had indeed marched beyond Adrianople and against Istanbul. History could have really changed. Fascinating historical presentation of a time and a place that I did not know anything about. Michael the Brave (and he deserves that title) won many battles that he should have lost, pulling a rabbit out of the hat more than once to turn the tide of battle. If he had not alienated all his allies and potential allies, he may have lived to complete his task of the unification of Romania. As it is, he did a remarkable job with what he had. No one he met in battle surpassed him as a field commander. It was a lack of men and resources alone that caused his final defeat. Great series! Kept my interest for the whole time, despite the plethora of unfamiliar names and places I had to keep up with.

I've watched this video probably 20 times and I could easily watch it 20 more times. I love this story, I love Alex Doddy's narration in the early parts, I love the hilarious little text bubbles...Kings & Generals, eat your heart out. History Marche nailed it.

As a Hungarian, I must say Eastern European schools should teach this kind of History of neighboring countries for the younger generations, not only national propaganda. I have never heard of this Mihály before, but now I am happy to know about this story.

He was a briliant general, yet he didn't die on the battlefield against the Turks, but he was betrayed and killed by Christians who were supposed to fight along his side against the Turks... I personally consider him the most important ruller of any Romanian pricipality of all times, because for the first time since Burebista, he managed (even briefly) to unify almost all the Dacian lands in a single country- he was even called "Malus Dacus" (bad Dacian) by his enemies. Anyway, he managed to do a lot of things in only 8 years of rulling, with such small resources both in manpower, weapons and money. As for the Romanians, they were always at the confluence of greater powers and empires interests, always heavily outnumbered and outgunned in most of the battles against Turks, Austro-Hungarians, Polish, Russians, Germans... Yet somehow they managed to survive... Hello from the USA! Just studying some Dracula, Transylvanian history and all of the significant war campaigns (that we know about) that were fought in this particular region. As you can imagine I am very pleased to discover this mini series. This is really good content, it fits in with anything anybody who binge watches Kings & Generals would already be watching. I'm all about that youtubeducation these days. RU-vid has turned itself into a history student's paradise. Keep doing the Kings & Generals thing and maybe even go so far as to try to fill in gaps that are created between other youtuber's history content... would be my advice to you for successfully building a solid channel. in Czech lands: Rudolf II. moves his seat of power from Vienna to Prague. He's known as a patron of arts and a supporter of alchemy and arcane arts. Meanwhile in Romania: (jokes aside, he's the only person I know of this story. He's kinda popular figure of Czech folklore for aforementioned reasons. Somehow uneventful period of Czech history, no-one much cares to elaborate. Man never stops to learn and I am grateful for filling some gaps in European history of this period. Until now it was something like: Constantinople fell. Something something something, Turks pushed on. Battle of Mohács. Something something something, Turks pushed on. And then Turks are at Wienna :D) PS: Mihai was a really cool guy. I always admire men with vision and fearless and clever commanders who go against the odds, capable of thinking outside the box and favoring initiative.

I must say that their is so much history that you haven't even heard of. Thanks HistoryMarche for filling up my history memory bunk :) Eastern history is very underestimated. We only focus on western history over here. Seems that the whole of eastern europe has been a battlefield for about 2000 years, on/off.

i bow down to the makers of this Amazing Documentary! i rarely watch something this long on youtube without skipping it.. but this was a pure gem! i have to add few things from the local folklore during Mihai Viteazu (Mihai The Brave) time, the pressure from every side was enormous.. nobody dared to do what he did... he felt the duty to do what his anceostrs did.. Stefal Cel Mare (Stefan The Great) and ofcourse his gran-gran-granpa Vlad Tepes (Vlad the impaler) but he did it with a greater impact! no fear of dying but fear of failing. was his way of living... he united so many landlords under his banner the untold small scale wars that took place just so he can succeed! and he did his part.. fighting against 3 enemies that wanted to suck the 3 principalites Wallachia, Transilvania and Moldova... from the time of Decebal of Dacia who stood against the Romans.. until 1990 when the communist regime fell... we stood our ground we didn't tried to invade anyone, but aid those who were invaded.. and i wish to hold a toast with everyone that fought in the past against us.. Austria, Hungary, Turkish and sometimes even Russia. i salute you my neighbors for having the guts to change into better.. to honor those who fell in the past by doing good!
