Great story... I remember Fred and his Rocket cars. When I was a teenager, in the mid to late 70's, myself and a few friends would sit on top of a block wall behind Fred's home, in Thousand Oaks, CA just to look at his rocket cars he parked behind his house.
Kid got hit by a 300mph rocket car and it broke his leg. In about the same time frame a corner marshal was hit by an F1 car (maybe 100mph) and the impact cut this kid in half right below the waist (Tom Pryce crash, south African GP)
Mr. Densham, Yes, Mr. Densham. That is how I address him when I see him at the races. He was an Auto Shop teacher where I attended High School. Just because I am an adult now, that is No reason to NOT to respect him as the talented man he is. Thank you Mr. Densham 😊
I remember hearing the story of a guy standing at the finish line holding up two beers one in each hand, when two funny cars went down the track and the chutes nearly took him out!
Ha!. Why do teachers tell the best story??. That knack,,that innate ability to pull you along. Peroxide cars are much better than the Kero burners, , just saying (Unless P&W J-58's, then bets are off). How the wheat belt kids survived back then, , still to this day, , amazes me. Iowa corn pickers thinking they can outrun the Combine. Nope, not this time. You been processed!!. lol!.
