StorytellHER tells the stories of two different women living in Jamaica at two different point in time, class and circumstances while experiencing the raw emotions of love and pain. The film highlights the fact that we are all different, yet so similar. StorytellHER also explores the idea that love & pain are synonymous and often times follows the other.
What is so beautiful about the treatment of this film is that each story can stand on its own while still being beautifully impactful, authentic and true.
“My Child” tells the story of a mother wrapped in the grieving memory of her daughter who was kidnapped, raped, and murdered by a man 3 years ago. Even though some time has passed, the pain is still fresh to this mother who lost her only child. Drowning in depression, guilt, alcoholism, and anger she confronts her daughter’s killer in an unconventional way.
“Words of An Abused Woman” is set in Jamaica in the 1950s and focuses on domestic violence. A woman now in an interrogation room unremorsefully explains to the investigator what lead to the murder of her boyfriend. Though not promoting violence, StorytellHER explores another unspoken truth and sometimes the end result of domestic violence. We see her go through the motions of love gain and love lost throughout the story.
