I have no clue why this video appeared in my feed. I have never searched for Volare videos and very few people know that my first car was a silver 77 Volare wagon with a factory 360 V8. I loved that damn car and still think about it all the time. Really cool story and nice to meet ya.
Thanks so much for watching and commenting. That wagon must have been awesome. Wagons are very cool. My daily driver happens to be an Acura TSX SportWagon. Very nice to meet you and hope you enjoy some of the other content on the channel.
@@NathansMoparGarage Yep. The guy was a complete idiot and had no concept of the rules of the road. We were yelling at each other in the street while the Volare puked its gas all over the road. He tried saying that I hit him. I'm fired back at him and pointed out that he contacted my car as I was passing him. It was written up on the police report that way. Didn't matter, though, as book value on the Volare was $400 and we got 2/3 of that for New York's "no fault" law. Our stupid insurance even paid him partially for the scrape (which was probably worth more than the Volare). My father, a former insurance adjuster, argued with our own company that the idiot didn't deserve a dime but they just wrote it off.
My grandparents had an '80 Volare (225 "LTP") made in Hamtramck, MI. It was made in late 1979 and might have been one of the last ones made there. They got it with no AC and no power brakes. It was hideous looking and it was likely code SL1 Designer's Cream. They had it until 1986. By then, my grandmother had a heart attack (in 1985) and her doctor told her she had to have a car with AC. By then my dad was working at the Cadillac dealership and he got them a 1982 Skyhawk which was fully loaded. They had that from 1986 to 1989 and then we sold that (by then, my dad had passed away). Then they bought a Chevy Cavalier new in 1989 (I went with them to buy it). I got the Cavalier in 2002 with 28k miles and it had never been more than 10 miles from their house. I put about 60k miles on it. It's "retired" at my other property now.
Very cool story. We almost bought a 1980 Aspen at Reedman's in Langhorne, PA back in the late 80s after I totaled the 77. $2300 was too much money for my pop so we settled on the Sable Sunfire 79 4-door that I posted in the sequel video to this one. Both of our Volares had A/C; the 77 had the V-twin and the 79 had the rotary style. I always like the 1980 front end (one year only).
@@LongIslandMopars Eventually my grandparents got cars with AC as my grandmother's health conditions required them. They had a 1970 Duster from 1970-1980 and that didn't have AC either.
In the Knight Rider era photo the car has the new Liberty plate from 1986-87 and you have a plate that starts with Q for Queens. I got custom 9/11 plates with my dad’s Liberty Q plate. You should think about doing it yourself
My dad's 66 Coronet wears it's original blue and orange plates when it was first registered in September 1966 (he kept them when NY switched to the orange and blue plates). He kept those plates, top, when NY went to the Liberty plates, so the Charger now wears the Coronet's 2nd set of plates. Somewhere in my garage I have a set or two of Liberty plates.
