If you saw one of our last videos, you probably noticed that we put a Dual Exhaust with a performance straight through Muffler on Kronos, but is this actually more efficient? Rich breaks down the difference between straight pipes vs a performance straight through muffler and the results speak for themselves.

magnaflows really do sound the best. I always put the biggest magna flow on my trucks. Quiet idle, no drone, but sounds soooooo good , clean and deep

Yes indeed. I do like da golf ball metaphor.

So in theory the muffler won't be the restricting factor, but it won't help decrease back pressure either, compared to a straight pipe, cuz the pipes before and after the muffler will nullify the higher CFM inside the muffler. The good thing is, now you can have a street legal setup that is as free-flowing as straight pipes, but with a muffler in it.

Nice guys!! It looks like you are using a smaller CSA on the 3" pipe test? Both muffers look to have an expanded end to "slip over" a 3" pipe. The straight pipe doesn't have this at both ends. This is reducing the available CSA. We will have two different exiting velocities. As well, this will cause more particle interaction and limit mass flow. Did you probe the velocity?? If that is a slip ober at both ends. That's an area difference at over a 1/2" sq/in. Also, dimples on a golf ball create more drag, not less. I've done a video on this on my channel as we develop race heads. So we see this rubbish dimple port come around every few years! 😂😂 Heres the problem people miss with boundary conditions and what dimples actually do! Dimpls will put more energy in the boundary layer, The more energy we "transfer" the "less" energy the air has. So dimples actually increase in surface "drag." It's this mechanism that allows a longer attachment point. Which on a ball at those velocities is separating on a smooth ball at 12 noon and 6. But with dimples creating more drag, it helps the air "wrap around" the ball. This means we reduce the negative pressure "behind" the ball. This is why dimples allow much further distances. The reduction in pressure behind the ball clearly outweighs the min but measurable surface drag dimples create. So we know it's not working like a glof ball. you have the fluid dynamics principles wrong here. But maybe you might be on the right track with surface area, especially with holes that lead to a huge volume of "compressible" fluid. 👌 and "generally, the greater this volume, the more power they make. 😉 I'd like to see the test, with an equal internal volume, shape, and average CSA. Just to see the difference. Also what is the Ra of the muffler, as the pipe seems like it has a much finer Ra surface which also creates more drag, all out tests show the best is around 60grit to a cutter finish. 300fps averages. So, a few things to get a more accurate back to back test would be great to see👌.

Well they are stright through so cfm should flow through just about similar. When it comes to chambered than yes cut that bad boy in half sure they chop at idle but the suck when it comes to air flow

But for the rest of the vehicle you have straight pipe so how does the larger flow even matter?
