Shaun Miller I believe that it is just a piece of metal clamped down a bit away from the contact wheel. That way it is easier to grind because you don’t have to angle the blade exactly right over and over again. It’s just easier
What angel are you using for razor, also how close . I'm retired and just a hobby , I can't seem to get correct the dimension from top to bottom. Thanks
Not sure I understand your question. For razor geometry: start with stock that is 1/4-inch thick, grind on a 4-inch diameter contact wheel to achieve a quarter-hollow grind, and the final width of the blade should be 7/8-inch from edge to spine.
Razor geometry should be around a 15° angle. So it’s 3.5-4 x your thickness. 1/4” stock razor should be a 7/8 or 8/8 razor like this. If you used 1/8” stock you’d want your width to be between 7/16”-1/2” from edge to spine. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-isPvvVdyQio.html
Josh we don't really do restoration work, if that's what you're asking. If you want a razor sharpened, check out the "honing services" page on our website!
