I've always held an attraction for progressive and cutting edge instruments and hardware, hence my love for 8-string guitars which I let lapse during the Covid years. I had to sell them all..🥹 Now I'm keen again so I've sourced what I believe to be the tidiest 8-String Headless around, the mighty Strandberg Original Boden NX8. Now all I have to do is learn how to play it properly! 😬 In the meantime, it's making the best soundscape generator ever thanks to its extended range, along with my own creations for the Axe-FX III.
You can download my "Starwards" patch from axechange.frac.... Actually, if you do a search for 'Starwards' on Axe-Change, you'll find a few different versions that should keep you occupied for a while.

Just picked up a Strandberg Boden Essentials 6 in Black Granite last week. It’s my 3rd Strandberg. Absolutely LOVE them. Great playing my man, awesome video 🤘🏼

Sounds great! I had the pleasure of meeting Ola some years back in Thailand a great engineer and lovely person. Love to hear what you think of the neck and all the ergonomic things he has put into it.😄😄

Yeah, I remember meeting Ola back in 2009 or thereabouts at one of the big trade shows. I doubt he'd remember me, though. I was entranced then and even more so now. The neck feels pretty amazing so I have to give the big thumbs up on the ergonomic front.

nice! i commented on your insta post, but i'll do it again here for the algo. i got an 8 a while back and love it. the ability to drop bass notes into soundscape is incredibly satisfying. fried my brain though, when i first got it. i have mine tuned to drop E, so it's a bit easier to figure out that bottom string!

I haven't played one for ages, Simeon. But I'm SO glad I'm back there now. This is a great guitar and I'm going to milk it for whatever goodness it has inside - a lot, I'll bet. How's your back? Getting any better? I hope so!

Brett, I think of you as a great (hard)rock and blues oriented guitar player. I hate to say it, but there aren’t many of those that dare or are able to play with so much reverb and delay. For reasons I don’t understand there seems to be some sort of a feeling of embarrassment, not knowing what to do with these types of sounds. They get uncomfortable creating soundscapes. NOT YOU THOUGH! I could listen to this for hours and hours. I loved every note you were playing. I am curious though: what did you think of the Strandberg. Can you see yourself playing one of those during gigs? 😊🧡

Thanks, Mario. I will admit that sometimes the reverb and delay is a bit of a crutch, but I kind of like using them as an instrument unto themselves - to texture the silence or become part of the improvisation. You're right, though, it can be annoying to hear to much of them unless they're in context, and I find myself turning them off on those occasions, especially on stage. The Strandberg is a masterpiece design. I cannot fault it. It's perfectly set up, intonated, stable and a joy to play - although the latter takes some getting used to if you're not used to extended range, slightly fanned frets and, of course, the extra two strings. What to do with it all? Experiment, throw yourself into it and have fun. Yep, I would be glad to play an NX8 on stage. My only issue is that there would be very little call for it in the band I tour with. That's why I relish the opportunities to do and experiment with whatever the hell I like in the RU-vid room.
