Playing stupid, the suspect is less likely to accuse her of trying to detain her. After all, she's stupid. I've been in a situation where I had to play dumb to get out of it. If I didn't, I might've been assaulted more than I already had been at that point. I was only 8 years old.

I came within an inch of dead at 9:30 one night in Pasco of all places when my vehicle broke down on the side of 90. Pitch black. Some dude stopped to presumably help. I was crouched down looking at my front end - he stood over me with a tire iron; his arm cocked-back, ready to swing. The one time I wasn't carrying only because I was on my way back from the Midwest through several states with no concealed carry reciprocity. Only the Grace of God and fast talking kept me from going home in a body bag. Never again.

It's pretty much the same with all criminals they think they'll come up with this grand scheme to get away with it overlooking the minor details. Was robbed at my job at a liquor store about 2 years ago. The dude thought he was gonna get away except for the fact that earlier that evening he called the store asking how many managers was on duty. The cops was able to track him to his house and arrest him. Dude is doing a few years of probation for a 8 dollar bottle of Canadian mist😭🤣😭🤣.
nowadays they can also read the GPS from your car as well to see where you've been driving, so if you're suspected of a crime they will just just look at that and if the cars GPS lines up with the crime location.

The fact that with her ex-boyfriend, she demanded money for the breakup and then to shoot her ex-lover and on top of that had worked in a nightclub, shows she isn’t really that naive at all.

Far more often than not, people who appear to be in need of help are just in need of help. Staying alert is important, always, and everyone should use common sense and rely on their intuition, but most people who need help aren’t violent criminals.
And it’s not even two small counties either, Torrance County is in the center of the state while 2 counties away can be in the absolute edge of the state.

Personal opinion, remaining anonymous is probably better. Thanks from all the on scene officers, but no paper trail link to the apprehension of a murder suspect. I would resist even giving my name at the scene.
I was starting to get worried about the officer, that suspect was a lot stronger than she looked and that civilian stopped just in time, you can tell that female officer is a badass but she was getting winded from the struggle. I was relieved when I saw that pickup backing up and dude came to help. It's too bad she didn't remember him from their previous meeting but I bet she will remember him after this!

Not being able to physically detain a light weight woman who is at least one head smaller than you without assistance from a stranger is NOT a sign of her being exceptionally fit to be a police officer. Just look at their physical difference on the dash cam footage, the fact they struggled for so long despite the difference in weight and height (and without the perp actually fighting back) endangers herself and other officers. Not against women on the force but she should lift some weights.

Then your tire blows out, a cop pulls up and miraculously gets a call from the NY detectives that you're on the run for homicide. What are the chances? She definitely was going to try and kill the cop when she tried to get her bag from the passenger seat. This could be turned into a movie.
It's not that crazy because they were pinging her phone and listening to her, the damn NYPD knew she had 2 blown out tires in New Mexico, shows you how you have zero privacy rights in regards to smart phones.
@NameSpaceVoid I didn't know that they tapped her phone, but now I see it's the only way they could've known she had 2 flat tires. In order to tap the phone, there must be probable cause for a serious crime and a search warrant granted by the judge. They then give the warrant to the phone company, and they record the calls and feed it to the police. They can't just tap anybody.
if your phone is on and connected to a network, the cops can locate you with a warrant, they don't need to tap your phone. How did that comment get five upvotes
They literally said they had someone giving them information, probably the friend she is waiting for. They didn't know because of her smartphone. They just knew she had blown out tires and could ping the location through her GPS location on the phone. Nothing more nothing less.@@NameSpaceVoid

Yeah, that was nice. However, it’s pathetic that she needed help in the first place, especially to take down an untrained woman who looked to be all of 110 pounds. If the cop simply knew how to use her bodyweight correctly and/or was trained to use simple pressure point jiu-jitsu moves, she would’ve had her subdued and apprehended no problem. And in my opinion the lack of this type of training is the reason they’re so quick to pull out their weapons.
At one time I knew three psychopaths at one time: two of them actually had got a kind of diagnosis at work, on a week-long junket. They’re great at seeming to misunderstand, giving non-answers or pretending (that they think) you mean something different than the obvious thing you said or asked. Or they find that your memory of what they said is somehow faulty.
The second conversation is hilarious, where each is trying to seem “innocent”, each trying to deceive the other, and each is completely suspicious of the other.
They should have never sent officer Hernandez back to the scene by herself, eerily reminiscent of that poor New Mexico officer sent to pull over a highly dangerous, heavily armed individual who ultimately executed the officer on the side of the highway.

Hernandez's ability to establish a positive connection with people, even without realizing it, was truly beneficial. It was evident from the beginning that her intention was simply to spread positivity to others. This definitely worked in her favor. I'm relieved that both she and the man who stopped to help her made it through safely!
And he did the right things when the other officers pulled up (they didn't know what was going on) he put his hands up. When you haven't heard anything from the person making the arrest in a few minutes and there is an unknown stranger on scene the cops showing up have no idea what is going on. Always best to show that you aren't a threat.
It does make me worry because it's the number one default to people have with female officers operating alone. It took half a second for that male civilian to help her or as she struggled for several minutes. Imagine if that had been a man she had to detain.

I think the girl didnt actuslly think she was or had committed a crime. I think she genuinly was gonna just grab her sweater. She prob thought having a gun and or that much cash was not a crime, just personal property. And the car, people borrow cars all the time she probably thought. I was once involved in a car accident with someone who was fleeing a cop. I stayed in my car while the cop jumped out of his cruiser and held the suspect at gunpoint as he awaited backup. When backup units arrived, one of them came up to my car with his gun pointed at me. I simply put my hands up and said "Hey, I'm fine!" He called over to the original cop to confirm that I wasn't a perp and then he left me alone. No biggie.🤷🏻♀️

It can go either way. There have been dozens of videos where a black woman being detained by police will call for help and before you know it there’s 40 people surrounding and threatening the officer. You get the activists or the Antifa type and they’ll attack the police, we see it plenty.

It was an extremely tense situation. You too would be tripping balls. A known homicide suspect, most likely armed, unknown location of weapon, of course the officer was anxious and scared. Kudos to her for maintaining the courage and in control for as long as she had and you can actually hear the relief in her voice once the civilian renders assistance. Under the circumstances she did an awesome job.

@MeadeJ67 She was handling it much better than a lot of male cops I've seen. Obviously if it was a male suspect she may not have gone that route. (Personally since she obviously wasn't just going to take off I would have stopped a good ways down the road until backup arrived. But close enough to monitor her movement as she could just grab her bag and stick her thumb out.) That all being said, sadly I can't begin to count the number of lone male troopers who have been shot.
The woman officer then would have been dealt with...it's not a womens' job, I keep saying for years. It's absolutely egoistic to think a woman can be like a man being a risk to every male officer who will protect her no matter what by instinct.

Hats off to the good Samaritan for one noticing the struggle in the grass, could of easily been missed in the low light and two taking action as safely as possible to help the officer. He's a good egg.
Wait. Why in the HELL did the detective not tell them it was homicide from the jump? Seems they KNEW that but earlier stated it was just a robbery she was wanted for …. Being wanted for killing someone is way different and would alert the officer to take greater precautions. So glad the citizen came and helped!
It was an active update on the investigation. They were looking through the house during the call until they finally found the body. Then, later, the wife was on 911 call. I saw this before in the movie "The Guilty 2021" with Jake Gyllenhaal and the foreign movie "The Gulity 2018". It can happen all in one night.

I had to he restrained once when I was about 105 lbs (at 5'8"). (In my defense, they kept saying I had bipolar and medicating me- but it turned out I didn't have bipolar, just really bad reactions to medication that made me act "off). It took two body builder EMT's and 4 off-duty cops to hold me down, and I still got a foot loose to kick one of them in the face. I think small people can be harder to restrain. We are wiggly.

I used to do that but not anymore, unless it’s in a parking lot or high visibility area. You never know what could happen to you or who you are dealing with along the side of the road. Everyone has a phone these days and can call for help. Sad that it has come to this. 😢

I don't know what her plan was after the getaway car got flat tires. Yea, her best bet was to hitch hike. A pretty girl stranded on the side of the road, I'm sure she either gets picked up by a white knight or a serial killer. Either way, she might have to kill again to get that car to go to Mexico.
She has a gun. It's not that she can't handle it physically, it's just that if she handles it a bit too much without probable cause it's her that will be behind bars.
