Hello everyone,
This video entails the realities of caravanning around Australia with our Ford Ranger and Jayco Caravan, we decided we wanted to catch a fish for dinner, and unfortunately, we got a lot more than we asked for with a day to forget on the road.
Towing a caravan isn't for everyone, and today it certainly felt like it wasn't for us!
In this video we:
-Visit an amazing beach in Eden, NSW
-Caught a decent fish
-Visit an incredible rock platform in a national park
-Hit the road towards Lakes Entrance
-Deal with a breakdown

Yep the extra weight of the caravan and the strong winds will definitely kill you mpg. Continue the travels! 🤙

Pro tip: Batteries are either good or bad-no middle ground. If it goes down to 9V, throw it away and get another one. Yes, you can charge it, and yes, it will work for a bit longer. But can you rely on it anymore? NOPE! Don't waste your time; just buy another one. Also, get your alternator checked. A low battery is why you were experiencing strange electrical issues, like the car thinking you're out of fuel.

That’s a great tip. Because I thought I could save this one and it gave us a lot of dramas. Once it was changed over. We never worried about it! Thanks for the comment :)

it rarely works out that the fuel gauge reads exact. also check that the altinator is working, the last time that that happened to me it was the alterinator but i had a generator so as the battery flatined i just took out the geny and sat while i put power in the battery and then took off again.

Hey John, Yes, I had reprogrammed the car to a 140L tank, so I would have thought it'd be quite accurate. But we also had a jerry can. Our battery was reading 10 volts by the end. So replacing the battery and we haven't bad a problem since.

@@360-Explorers i think you can get it re calibrated if you can find someone with forscan for the bigger tank. Or can disconnect battery for 5mins see if it resets.

Thank you! You are right! We're actually so pleased with how the awning held up. In the night some moments I felt like the caravan was going to tip and the awning was still going strong.

A sub tank would be handy. But I’ll keep a Jerry on board for when I need it. I miscalculated the trip here unfortunately

Pretty sure I've seen this same problem on two other channels with Rangers.

Hey Damian, oh really would love to know what the issues were. I'm thinking parasytic drain from something, will get tested asao dont wan't the new battery to take the hit.

@360-Explorers yeah I think it was something like that. "Now or Never" had the car not start a few times. And an older couple "Happy Campers" did as well. I can't remember exactly what the resolution was though.

Be careful about running a diesel dry…. Those fuels pumps are very expensive… damage can happen very fast when they run dry

Unfortunately, it's happened once before. But we were lucky, we quickly learnt how to bleed the pump before starting and it only took a couple of attempts. I have heard upwards of 10k... hence why we didn't decide to risk it with the caravan attached

Thanks for the comment. It's a cargo net. Holds all our light gear. Hats, Towels, bags, whatever we need to keep off the ground. We picked this up from the Website Temu. But I am sure there is better ones out there.

Well, that's what we thought. As soon as it hits 0kms the car shuts off. Unfortunately, not the first time this happens... but let's hope the last time.

Mate was there any forethought into the purchase of the ranger? Not usually seen touring around AUS or being a serious tow vehicle

Hey mate, yes absolutely. Firstly, there's a couple of youtubers I watch with a Ranger and they seem to have completed the lap successfully. I have dual transmission coolers installed which are great with keeping temps down. Reasonably priced, parts are easily accessible.

We spent too much time in Queensland soaking up the sun. Before we had to rush south for a family wedding. Not an ideal way of travelling with the rush. But we were just enjoying the north a little too much
