► The Santa Fe National Forest is a protected area in northern New Mexico. It was established in 1915 and covers over 1.5 million acres. It’s not clear to me how many visitors it attracts every year, but the national forest website states that the forest holds some beautiful views and many fun activities for it’s guests. What they don’t tell you about this area are the eerie disappearances that have occurred from 1951 to 2009, so let’s explore them.

First, good to hear your voice again in a new video. Second, the images you have used are amazing!! A.I. illustrations? They are hauntingly lovely. I live in New Mexico and have hiked and camped in the areas you covered in these stories. Most times it was just me and my dog, hiking, mountain biking, and camping. I know now that was stupid to do alone and even endured a night so scary my dog and I sat shivering by our rekindled fire, she in my lap, after screams of a wildcat (mountain lion) mingled with the sounds of whatever it caught. New Mexico is called The Land of Enchantment, and it seems to hold one's attention with its beauty until the person realizes he or she is lost. Between the mountains, high desert terrain and the lower desert and rocks, she is a beautiful place that must also be seen as dangerous. La Llorona stalks the ditches, children are told. The arroyos become deadly water traps when monsoons drop water at high elevations, from miles away. One must always check weather when going out camping, hiking and know that black bears are here, but are not aggressive (Smokey the Bear was a real bear found in Southern NM). Watch for wild cats, they have pounced on people in the Santa Fe trails areas. Sorry such a long comment but Thanks for touching on the cases in this state.

I've gone camping all over the state - I love this state! I've only gone camping by myself once at Fenton Lake. There's usually bear and mountain lion warnings up at Bandelier, which is "down the street" from me. Coyotes and deer walk around the neighborhoods. People do have to have trash cans that bears can't get into farther up the mountain, especially in drier springs and summers.

I lived in Southeastern NM (Hobbs) but loved to make the trip to Lincoln National Forest to camp and hunt. I had a terrifying experience their over a a couple days and never went back. I didn't make it to the northern part of the state much but loved the time I did spend there. I went up into Durango a couple times too. Ruidoso was great until it became a tourist trap.

@@Scarethelocals I used to go camping every year with my kids when they were little and we all fit into one tent. Those days are long gone! So we went to different locations, but never made it to the southeast corner of NM. The most interesting time was camping in July on the Santa Fe ski hill and waking up to snow! It was just a light snow and soon melted, but I have never seen snow in July otherwise.

The artwork is just beautiful! Enjoyed seeing it. It makes sense to me that Emma would leave her cell phone behind. I recall what cell phones were like back then--they just can't be compared to the way phones are now. There was short battery life and there was very low likelihood of reception in remote areas like the Sangre de Cristos. She took her purse with her; that is something she would have thought more necessary if she believed she were near the monastery and only had a short walk to get there. We also have to remember that she would most likely have been using a paper map, and those (depending on age and locality) sometimes showed old roads that were no longer in service. She "high-centered" on the road--that means that she was in the middle (not the side as the artwork shows) of a dirt/gravel road, and this could surely be a route that had ceased to be maintained. If she was not using a paper map and if she had had access to the internet, online maps and directions were notoriously bad back then so that could have gotten her lost all too easily. Mapquest was launched in 1996 so that's a possibility for her to use and the directions had to be printed out. I personally know how bad MQ was because for years they had my driveway listed as a street, and a lot of people made the mistake of driving down it. It's sad that weeks went by without her being reported missing but, again, times were different and people were not as constantly in connection back then as they are now.

Well he using an ai generated artwork for that which is very helpful for such project when describing this types of stories (also a very interesting subject for myself)
@zzydny
@zzydny 2 года назад
@@AverageGuy2002 Yes, I understand that this is a likelihood. However, I suspect that some viewers who are unfamiliar with old country roads don't know what "high-centering" means. It's when the wheel ruts get deeper and the soil or gravel moves to the middle due to wear and erosion; in that case, it becomes very easy for a car with a low wheel-base to get stuck. Unpaved roads need to be re-graded every so often because of this condition. If her car high-centered, this leads me to suspect that Emma took a wrong turn or got incorrect directions because the road she was on cannot have been properly maintained.

Little Steven said they thought it was gorillas, but could it have been bigfoot? Children that said bears put them in places of safety, etc., could it have been bigfoot? People have said before it, in other videos & documentaries, that a bigfoot sounded & looked like gorillas. 🤷‍♀️ Maybe the reason she left her phone in the car was simply because the battery died so there was no use to carry it. Thanks Adam for your hard work & bringing these heart felt stories of missing loved ones. My sister is a hiker & I was always worried that something would happen, so now she doesn't even tell me she's going until she's already back, then I fuss anew because someone needed to know where she would be. She's so stubborn. 🤷‍♀️💜🙏

Sorry, she's also not very bright. I mean, I know she's your sister, but honestly, what happens if she goes missing? No one will even know until she's been missing at least several days, if not weeks. And she's the one who will suffer by it, because there won't even be a starting point to search from. So if she gets injured and/or lost, she'll end up starving to death out there.

Emma not taking her phone isn’t super surprising to me, it was 1998 where cellphones were less common and bulky, so not ideal for a hike, but she was also an elder. Lots of Old ppl even to this day don’t think to grab or remember their phones, I’d especially assume that of an elder in the 90s. That’s just what I think tho. 19:51 if this lady disappeared in the late 90's then it makes sense that she left the phone behind. Cell phones existed back then, but without the ubiquitous cellphone tower network you grew up with. It's hard for young people to wrap their head around it but cellphones back then were absolutely useless once you left the confines of a major city.

I lived in Santa Fe and now live north of it. FYI - Jemez is pronounced Haymez. It's an interesting and sometimes dangerous land. But, where I live, it's nice to worry about 4 legged animals more than the two legged ones that I used to worry about when I lived in the city. You also have to remember that people visiting the state may not be used to the altitude. I currently live at 6500 feet above sea level. I grew up at 60. Even people who live here need to adjust to higher levels in the mountains. That could have been an issue with the third case you spoke about.

Emma wouldn't take her phone if she thought she couldn't use it, or didn't need it. Cell phone coverage would not have been great in the late 90s in the middle of nowhere. Also, in her mind she was not lost, but just up the road from the monastery. She left to go to the monastery for help, as they would have a vehicle capable of driving on said road. That makes more sense to her, than wondering around looking for cell service.

@@donnavorce8856 either you're young or have a short memory.. it's very unlikely a phone from the late 90's would've fit in her pocket, they were not pocket sized until at least 2000. Even if it did there's absolutely no way she had service that far away from a city. Because even in the city you were lucky to have service. If she had a bag phone that doubled as a satellite phone, which I assume she did not or would've used it, the battery wouldn't have lasted long away from its power source.

Hi there! I love your videos, first of all. Second, I frequent this area. In the first story you mentioned the Jemez; they are on the other side of the city of Santa Fe from the Pecos. I believe that gentlemen was found in the Pecos River several miles from where he went missing several months after he disappeared. As for the 2nd story, there are many "big foot" sightings around the Santa Fe forest from Jemez to Pecos so this was an unsettling one to listen to. Last, if she was under the impression that the monetary was in the deep woods that would've made it easy for her to take the 63A. The road it is actually on is heavily trafficked, perhaps a little less back then but still it is the main road through the area. The road she took is incredibly creepy and I have a feeling she fell into the wrong hands. So many weirdos around here. Anyway, thank you for these!! Any chance you can research the unsolved murder of Carla Salinas Simmons that happened in the Cibola National Forest? Apparently 4 deaths have occurred in the 1 mile radius around where she was killed, 1 was a suicide and 1 was accidental but there are caves with local legends and, our favorite, a mountainous forest. Her story in particular, though, is one that is bizarre... thank you!😁

The incident with Mel is an old one from Paulides. It bears repeating what Paulides himself pointed out: Mel was armed, but disappeared without a trace (i.e., no signs of a struggle, blood, or spent cartridges/broken arrows). If what happened was foul play, then Mel must have been subdued completely, bloodlessly, and totally unawares. That being the case, there are two possibilities: That the attacker was someone Mel knew/recognized and considered either harmless or a non-threat. Or whomever got to Mel was perfect in their planning of an ambush that was swift and total in its execution. Neither scenario is impossible, nor are they improbable. But if either is true, then the question becomes who was Mel (or what had he done) to merit that kind of machine-like operational precision?

Before getting out a little kid started waving & talking about a lady over there that "needs our help". She was floating. Apparently after later research they found that her description & clothing matched. Why Emma didn't take her cellphone is not a mystery at all. The options for cell phones at that time were limited to VERY clunky portable versions, bag phones that were somewhat portable but as big as a large purse with a battery that didn't last long disconnected from a power source or an actual car phone that was permanently installed in the car and could not be removed. Aside from that, you were lucky to get service inside big cities so being out in a national park I guarantee she no service.. the only small chance of maybe having service is if she had one of the giant bag phone's because those could double as satellite phones in remote areas.. that's only if you paid for the extremely expensive extra service at $5-$6 PER MINUTE minimum. My guess is she definitely didn't have service for whichever versionof cell she had out there on the dirt road her car was found abandoned on. Towers were very few and far between in metropolitan areas only at that time.. Funny how the younger generation who has only known a world with instant connection to help through our current technology seems to forget that not so long ago we didn't have anything close to that luxury lol 😆

Regarding Emma Tresp, being an age-peer of Ms. Tresp I can say with certainty that we oldsters are not as conditioned to grab our phones as the younger generations that grew up with these devices are. I have no idea WHERE my cell is most of the time whereas my grandkids can't function without having them in hand. So, it's possible she just didn't think twice about grabbing her phone - especially since it's speculated that she believed she was close to the monastery that was her destination. That said, as an avid hiker myself, I always leave a note on my kitchen counter listing where I've gone, what trails I plan to travel, and the date/time I left. Might make it easier for someone to come looking should I ever go missing out there.

Yeah that's a common theory many people believe about the national parks. Do some research on Teddy Roosevelt and how he apparently encountered Bigfoot and so he created the national parks as a way to keep them and other cryptids hidden and a secret from the public.

Why do these disappearances mostly happen in national parks and preserves? Privacy, dimensional portals, accidents, animals, evil people, and other possibilities may be responsible, I suppose. Even disappearances in cave type openings could cause problems. Hmmm🤔
@marifromky

why do the victims leave their clothes or at least their shoes or one shoe?
@josephringling769
@josephringling769 2 года назад
That is the million dollar question. Nobody knows for sure. The only thing we know for sure is that these places present opportunities for such speculation because quite frankly there have been too many unexplainable disappearances within these places and in the absence of logical explanations it opens up the doors to contemplate explanations that aren't so "logicall' in our normal everyday black and white way of thinking. It could be one of those causes you've mentioned or a combination of them all or none at all or even a reason none of us have even began to fathom. Truth is sometimes stranger than fiction in this world.

@@josephringling769 i've been following missing 411 for six years now (i think). it just keeps getting weirder. however, seems that thing most have in common are the things i mentioned above. very bizarre. also i agree about the truth. i'm a writer and we say, quite often, that fiction has to make sense, but the truth can do whatever it wants.

@@leequinn2733 one story about the Nahanni spoke of a man who found something akin to a caveman spear in one of those high up caves. When returning with it some unexpected occurrence made him drop it into a place that he could not get to. I pay close attention to what the natives have to say about the spirits or mysterious things that they have seen or encountered. Their people have oral traditions about these things.

These are very intriguing and inexplicable cases. It doesn’t make sense that the cell phone in one and the GPS in the other were left behind. Over the years I’ve hiked and gone cross-country skiing in all three of these locations and while they are very beautiful, they always felt mysterious to me. Lastly, since you asked about the change in the visuals, imo they look nice but were quite dark. Not moody dark, rather I considered having to lighten the screen to enjoy them better. For me, I prefer the visuals you’ve been using to this change. If you had not asked, I would not have mentioned the new look and the darkness as it’s certainly your choice. Thanks for all you do and have a great weekend!

Regarding Tresp's disappearance and why she would leave her cell phone behind. You have to remember this was 1998 and cell phone network was not as extensive as it is today. In fact, even in major cities in the US at the time, there would be dead zones. Out in a national forest, it would had been a certainty there would be no signals.(zero bars). And cellphones of the period were not like the lightweight palm size phones of today. I had one back then the size of a brick and weighs almost as much as a brick.

How can dogs track a scent for half the length of a football field only to lose it? If Mel had gone off the trail, he must have left his scent and the dogs would have continued to track it. The only thing that makes sense is something lifting Mel off of the ground and carrying him away. Spooky.

Though 45°f is chilly to many people, to kids it's not quite the death sentence some folks believe. Plenty of kids play in chilly weather without adequately warm coats no matter how much they are hounded by mom. Perhaps a series of similarly cool nights may have a cumulative effect on missing youngsters.

Beautiful art used on this video and I like the patrons at the end! As for my thoughts on the stories: 1. Its as if the poor man vanished into thin air. 2. The three kids might've seen Bigfoots. 3. The lady also disappeared into thin air. There might be portals in these thick forests.
