September 2023, Banff National Park, Doug Ingils and Jenny Gusse along with their Dog Tris are enjoying Banff's remote backcountry. They've been here before, but this will be their last trip.
In their final moments, they set up camp, notify their family that they are safe and "OK", but within hours all three will become the victims of the deadliest at in Banff National Park's history. One can of bear spray, emptied and more questions than answers, but the tragic story of Doug and Jenny's final moments offers outdoor adventurers an opportunity to learn from this and other bear attacks.
The attack that claimed Doug and Jenny's lives is among the rarest events to ever occur in the backcountry. And there are things you can do to make sure that your story does not end the same way.
