Nurolkel I'd suggest that you'd don't do that till it goes on sale, especially after the demo and all it was all the negative hateful poorly rated even reviews, had me think twice on even buying it and all too so forth.
@@billketchersid9640 You do realize that this person liked the demo from reading the comment. Just because it is hated by everyone else does not mean you have to hate it either.
This game is somehow “so bad it’s good” which is extremely rare to see in games. Most of the time, if a game is bad… it’s just bad. It drags down the experience, whether it be bad gameplay, bad progression, bad balancing, or a bad story. But this game manages to do it, and honestly, I prefer the fact that this exists over the hypothetical “good” version of Stranger of Paradise we might have gotten otherwise. The combat is amazing. Like straight up this is some of the best combat in any video game ever. People are inevitably comparing this to Elden Ring, and I think this game is much better in terms of combat (mainly thanks to the lack of input reading and input commitment. It’s so infuriating when you end up accidentally hitting roll twice, get hit, and then your character gets up and rolls immediately regardless of what you do afterwards.). It flows so well, balancing feels on point, everything about it is so damn good. Especially great is the job system. It’s hard to understate how being able to switch between jobs in the middle of combat improves the gameplay by allowing you to pursue and experiment with many different gameplay styles instead of being bottlenecked. Combat is literally 10/10. The story is perfectly awful. It’s actually kind of surreal to watch, but it’s so hilariously bad that it’s charming and enjoyable in its own right. It keeps you entertained with how stiff all of the characters are, but near the end actually starts telling a really compelling mystery that inadvertently explained why the game was the way it was in a way that didn’t feel contrived, but actually was really interesting. It made me look back on and reconsider the story in a whole new way. The ending unironically goes so hard that the otherwise bad story is retroactively made awesome by it when it was already funny on its own. The environments are… weird. It’s almost surreal, in a sense. They’re simultaneously unique, but also so bland and uninspired. It’s strange to look at and makes me feel very weird, and no other game has really done that. I can’t tell if it’s good or terrible, and I kind of love it for that. This combination of strange environments, spectacular gameplay, and laughably bad story makes this game such a joy to play. It manages to be so much fun where other bad games aren’t, and the story is just so unintentionally funny. I would recommend this to absolutely anyone. Games like this remind me that the world being incapable of accommodating perfection is actually a great thing, because otherwise we wouldn’t get stuff like this.
Because the elements are not truly fantasy, like remake ff7 and ff15, no open world, nioh is good in its own way, there is no need for a copy or clone using ff elements
I feel like the problem with this game is people are undoubtedly going to compare it to elden ring. Hell any game that comes out the next month or two will be unfortunately even if it's not a "souls like" game. I played the demo for this & loved it. Hope it sells well, I think they should have released it a bit later
Which is going to unfairly tarnish this game’s rep because nioh-likes (this game is mor like nioh than a souls game) have been unfairly compared to souls games and a “souls clone.”
It will get unfair comparisons, but it is what it is. Personally, having put 115 hours into Elden Ring over the past couple of weeks, I'm ready for a break. I know this does not have the scope, wouldn't even need to see a review to know that. But based on playing the demo...the combat is actually really good. Combat can keep you around for a lot longer than things like story, graphics, etc. Do I wish the scope was bigger? Of course, but this seems like a more relaxed version of Elden Ring - I was not ready for NG+ in ER so I chose this instead. Kinda burnt out on world exploring after acquiring the majority of the items in Elden Ring as well as completing every boss encounter.
if that is the case then i will say that why not just play both of them as they are both great games. dont have time to play both? if you dont have time to play games then maybe you shouldnt be an amateur game critic comparing everything to the one and only game you are able to play. (im not personally speaking to you Joe H, just to armchair critics in general)
I mean 27 classes sound much but its more or less around 15 or so since the only thing that changes on meele classes is the useble weapon and the main skill. The rest is universally unlocked in case if skills usable with a weapon. Magics are a bit different but almost the same. But still. I take any mage and love to bash heads in meele and have range on backburner if needed. So good.
@@burnersforhim yes it is. But lets say you play Greatsword. You can have the same combo skills for every Job that can use Greatswords. Only one job skill changes. Dragoon can use Jump with GS while warrior got his Battle Roar and the Base (Swordmaste is it) has the spinny thing. Thats what i mean. Only the job skill changes for most meele jobs. Magic unlocks further types of magic so i did not count that into the same class. That said most mages play the same too. All close range counter bonkers and some timed casts to counter mechanics or AoE trash mobs. Maybe not RDM since he can chain cast.
@@BadButterfly65 the skill ceiling in this game will revolve around switching jobs mid combo and managing your mp bar. if i have 27 different ways to mix and match 2 jobs, i don’t see the point in complaining lol.
Gonna date myself here.lol i played FF1 on the NES when it came out. Loved it! I also played through Nioh1 6x and Nioh 2 7 or 8x, until the depths. So needless to say, i WILL be picking this up as soon as im done with Elden Ring.
probaby there is a big new game plus feature there, theres a chaos difficulty and a job mastering system based on the leaked achievements/trophies which smells like a new game plus thing, didn't expect less from a nioh based game which gone crazy on ng+
Been watching since dark souls 1 and I'm so glad you did this review, it was awesome. As a big FF fan it's an auto buy but your thoughts and comments on it make me really look forward to it
This is definitely not their black horse the graphics are too horrible for that and the story could've been written by a 5 year old. For a GOTY or good game you need a complete package meaning graphics, Gameplay and Story. Graphics from FF sop look like 720p-1080p and detract from the experience/Immersion
Lol I forgot about this game because I've been playing Elden Ring non-stop lately. Good that you made this video! I'm definitely trying it after I have became the Elden Lord
Solid review. My expectations were low but I preordered anyway just looking for some more team ninja combat after being hooked on Nioh 1 and 2. As long as it hits that point I'm good.
I knew this was good, Team Ninja doesn't disappoint. Also I would have liked if you mentioned NG+, the Nioh games had them and I'm unsure due to this review if there is such an option or not for this game. Great review nonetheless.
I know my music so if I hear a similar track/tunes/score my mind will recognize it. I played FFI but never beat it. Your review is more respectable than others I’ve heard. Thank you.
Hope to see an update to their graphics as there's no difference between performance and quality atm, and yeah already heard about that PC looks very nice.
Does anyone feel the stages in this game is too short? Idk why i feel this way, nioh stages are better than this imo, so i guess im gonna wait for the review first to see how the rest of the mission stages looks like
I honestly felt confused throughout my experience with the demo, specially in the equipment side. They felt disposable too quickly and synergies wouldn't pay off. I might stay tuned thought, seems a solid game overall.
Huge final fantasy fan and will probably end up picking this up but got to say the souls games especially this new Eldon ring is really the type of combat and the type of game I want to play. I like not having all the menus on the screens and the freedom of pretty much just to do whatever I want with my builds.
Oh wow that’s a better score than I expected. Funny because I have similar reservations about this game as I did when Nioh came out, the little play footage didn’t quite seem intriguing and there were only a few trusted reviews stating it was good. It wasn’t until I played the game that I had a blast-and all that DLC they put out for both games was just insane. Guess I’ll have to give this one a shot too.
i'll even go out and say this is on par with nioh 1 and 2. the map and visual is kinda lackluster compared nioh, but they make up for the job system and battle mechanics! i honestly prefer this job system and job mechanics compared with nioh's weapon and stats building. less hassles, more flexibility, more room for exploring builds, mixing and min maxing is VERY fun in this game.
Sounds and looks great; not all game's should be like elden ring; we don't want to saturate that type of game so it becomes boring. We need a good action JRPG.
As for me. I put elden ring on backburner for that one. I have so much fun with the combat alone that i grinded the demo to the point i can get into all final jobs the second the get unlocked, since they are blocked in the demo. Also that soundtrack is just fire. You feel the FF13 and FF11 energy, since all 3 composers were part of atleast one of those.
@@lune5289 I didnt even buy know. Its on priorety 3 these 2 mobth packed with shit next to my online multiplayer games. #1 is Origins #2 Tiny Tinas Wonderlands #3 Elden Ring. And only if nothin more exciting gameplay wise comes out beforehand. Elden Ring is on my must play list but it does not tickle my day one buy vibes. Everything i loved in Souls games went down a notch to make room for an open world. Its not bad but not 100% for me. So if there is nothin else to get and i have time its the first choice to fill the void.
Looks solid, but I’m kinda disappointed it has a mission based system like nioh/ devil may cry. It ruins the immersion for me :/ I’m still excited for it! Lol great review 👍🏼
Fair assessment, but sometimes tightly focused experiences are a nice breather from seemingly endless open worlds. SoPFFO has a very good flow to it and nothing overstays it’s welcome.
This is one of those games I can wait to be on sale. We have game of the year contenders that just released in Elden Ring and Horizon Forbidden West that you would feel more comfortable paying full price for over Strangers in Paradise.
I've been wanting a final fantasy souls like game but I think it would have been cool if they had iconic moves from the series you could learn and they could do it like ashes of war. So like you could find cross slash but it can only be equipped on greatswords or something
I’ve given this game a second chance, approaching it from the perspective of playing a game similar to Diablo, and that change in viewpoint has increased my enjoyment significantly. Grinding for gear and trying out different classes is super fun, and I think they did a great job!
Compared to Fromsoft games, which feels a lot more methodical in how those games play, Stranger of Paradise feels a lot more like an arcade game. And that's not a bad thing, it's just that the gameplay from the two games aren't that comparable. I have to admit after 100 hours of Elden Ring, and then jumping into the demo for this game was very jarring. But the gameplay is still enjoyable in its own right.
People fucked up by comparing Nioh 1 to dark souls. They really aren’t that much alike besides having a hard difficulty. Nioh and nioh-like games are closer to diablo and action looters than souls games. So yea, very arcade-y and repetitive. What carrries nioh is its combat. I assume that’s the same for this game. Oh and the expectation in nioh-likes is that you will becomes absolutely op as fuck.
The remake had better story, characters and graphics coupled with a fun combat system but yeah it wasn't as good as the one here. They compromise on characters, graphics and story in favor of Gameplay.
@@Sincerity1993 Characters yeah, I agree but thats mostly because the source material is better. However the writing is simply bad in both of them and it just hurts more on the remake for obvious reasons. I wouldn't call remake's combat fun, there was nothing fun about it honestly. Boring, one-dimensional and knee-deep.
I feel like Fextralife played a completely different game than I did. For example, they praised the music but I felt that it was incredibly uninspired and bland, especially for a Final Fantasy. Also, while I enjoyed experimenting with the different jobs, I was never able to find one that I found truly enjoyable to play. This, combined with a battle system that Felt incredibly clunky to me made for an experience that wasn't very enjoyable. If you do decide to pick up Stranger of Paradise, avoid the PS4 version if you can; it looks like garbage with many colors being oversaturated and everything else being blurry; it also runs poorly even on performance mode.
@@italianspiderman5012 I do. 13 and 13-2 are my Favorite solo FF games. Lightning Returns was shit tho. Gameplay narrowed down and added that stupid majoras mask ending of the world thing. And they werent my first either. I started with V back when and by now played all. I did not finish II tho. I could not care less about Firion. My top 5 i would say is XIII/XIII-2 X-2 IX VI X Since 7R is not "complete" its not on here. If i had to put in on here alone it would take place 3 and X would be gone.
@@BadButterfly65 your taste sucks...ff13 is universally regarded as the 2nd or first worse ff game and it deserved all the low scores. If I had to be honest dragon quest has better rpgs now but that could change with the next one
@@kaminak3027 oh yes, dragon quest is crushing it,loved the last one, although I have to say,it gets old,I wish they innovate more, leave the turn based system but do something to freshen up the formula,I don’t know if I’ll pick up the next one if it will be the exact same game.
@@I_Am_The_Social_Reject thing is there's something going on here with this game vs either of those with is THIS jack we play actually chaos or is another since ff1 is all about time travel
Same. The demos and trailers have me really curious to see how they handle what story there was from FF1. I've heard mixed things on it but it all seems to come together at the end
The story is pretty ass imo and the characters are generic but I’m having a lot of fun with the combat/gameplay which is personally my number 1 priority in most video games.
I often hear reviewers say characters are 1D, and frequently find that to be an attempt at sounding sophisticated. But then again I have the IQ of a mutt so what do I know... Totally agree with you here, great Review! Final Fantasy strangers of paradise looks like 720-1080p on the PS5 and could've been released for the PS3. I don't understand why devs can't use the power of the PS5 which is easily capable of 60 fps 4k or at least WQHD. Also the characters are flat and the dialogues could've been written by a 5 year old. But at least the Gameplay is quite fun and there's a lot of job variation which is the only reason I'll buy it because the rest is a disappointment. I mean even Nioh 2 looked better on the PS5 and this is literally Nioh 3 with FF Fanservice. Anyway charging 70-100€ for this is heavily overpriced
Well, people are entitled to their own opinion. I thought it shouldn't have ended the way for the main character, but the game surely pulled me into the story with mystery
This looks like ps3 game that you would find in a bargain bin. It's not even the fidelity, but also the overall artstyle, color grading and all of that.
The combat on this game feels about right for me, I think. I always finished Nioh games but to be honest, something always felt a bit off and I never "truly" got into them after finishing the story. Maybe it was the 3 different stances combined with 2 weapons. Skill Ceiling feels immense with all that considered. I respect high skill ceiling games, but I also prefer something a little more arcadey/fun. The combat on this hits that perfect balance between fun/arcadey while also retaining a high skill ceiling and difficulty, at least it felt that way on the demo. Plus, with the jobs/animations/spells and abilities being modeled after FF, there's a sense of familiarity and awe at the movesets. I'm holding out for PC release since I have RTX 3080, Hopefully full spec 4k HDR @ high FPS will help offset some of the graphics issues I'm hearing about.
Ah, has that high contrast visual style from Nioh. There was always something about Nioh that make me a little woozy playing it and this has that quality.
Looks like a fun wait for sale game. Not enough polish for full price, cringe writing, mid music, poor resolution and secluded environments. But has charm and fun gameplay. Sooo wait for sale for me. But could be a fun pick up Day one if people don't care about those things
Exactly what I said, this looks like in 2-4 months it will be $19.99.....I will wait til then. Doesnt seem too bad just not something I'd pay full price for, tbh it does look like a ps3 game
The biggest issue I'm having is performance. If they can just make the game run decently on PC and tweak a few fights, I'd be happy enough, the gameplay is good enough to warrant a longer investment.
Holy shit all the games souls fans are getting this first half of the year is fucking awesome! Also I haven’t tried the newest demo but I thought the first demos were actually pretty damned hard. Is this discrepancy because I chose hard mode or is the final release just easier?
damn I expected a way less review score than 8.2 considering in what state the game is, but I'm happy to hear that the game isn't hated as much as I thought
Hi Fextralife, how is PC performance? Is there 120fps, DLSS like Nioh 2? Looking to buy on day 1 but don’t want to get burnt by a bad launch, not that TN have ever let me down in that regard.
The combat and job "styles" are good. Now everything else is not good it lacks direction and polish. I still play it a lot though since I never played Ninja Gaiden for the story.
So they can run it into the ground like they did with DOA by the fourth game? Or like they did with Ninja Gaiden by Sigma 2 and this is generous when you consider that even NG2 was a bit of a downgrade in some ways. Even their own DLC with Nioh 2 was wearing a bit thin by the last one. Plus they've already done the Sengoku period, every other era pales in comparison. Let it rest for sometime. It's attitude like this that kills great franchises from smaller studios.
AS long that i can make a Dark Knight type character, i'm content. A Necromancer would be perfection...but its a FF game we're talking here, so Nope to the best Magic school type i guess...
I was expecting a timeless classic remade for next gen consoles, I was expecting dragon warrior style but with ff7 battle system, and the where is the warrior of light that's on final fantasy dissidia, I feel like this like a remix with devil may cry and nioh elements, I feel like they took the game in the wrong direction or its not what we looking for in a original ff game in the series, ff7 remake was good example of a ff remake. One of the bigger disappoints is this game seems more mission based than open world with with sub quests, this game originally supposed to came out in February but was pushed back to march. Because elden ring might get game of the year. The first four original final fantasy games was open world dragon warrior style, even ff type o got a good battle system.
I hated almost everything in Nioh, Interface, combat, animations,WorldBuilding, the map but im going to give this game a chance just because is final fantasy
Idk why people are calling this game a "souls-like". It's not even close to being a souls like game. Nioh itself isn't even a souls like game. Feels like this term gets thrown around so loosely these days
@@StrikerTVFang no there should be a game like ff X with next generation updates, I hope we got one day a true next gen turn based ! Back to the roots square !!!
@@Larudantex1991 no thanks… the world has moved on. The roots of square are still available for you to buy and own right now. This is the time for square to try new things, experiment and grow. That’s the reason FFXIV is so successful. Like the FFXIV producer has said, the company needs to get out of the past.
just a giant whopping no from me. i know people like nioh, but it lacked that special something for me. add in nomura as creative producer and I'd rather throat a cactus then attempt to sing opera than pick this up. to those who can stomach this, i salute you.
this is by FAR the most POSITIVE REVIEW out there. I know I can trust Fextralife, you guys have yet to fail me and I fucked up and pre oder it on ps4 like today and I can't cancel it so yeah I'm on for the ride from the get go.
I still think it's funny that 90% of everyone's reviews for this game complain that "there's too much loot". Sounds like these other reviewers weren't playing Nioh properly lol
Seems to common once ign said crappy loot as a negative for some other game. I think reviewer are over hated but damn do they seem like they never played the game properly
I can't tell you how many times I've thought about how disappointed in this game I am. I think about it more than is healthy. I loved playing the first game as a child with my dad. They ruined a great opportunity to remake a great classic.
Guys.. do you think these game will have a complete version someday? I really don't want to download a giga size patch like cyberpunk.. waiting ff7 remake to be completed is probably gonna be like 5m years or something
Over the timed trials, my hype got noticeably less. The demo particularly lowered it. But, I’m playing Elden Ring at the moment which is probably an unfair thing to match it up against. Whenever I finish ER, I’ll probably go buy SoP. I just wish more weapons were available from the first dungeon. Wanted to go Berserker/W.Mage, but guess I’ll have to wait for a later mission to get the axe. Thanks for the review!
